Okay, I'm super furious now. Any fix soon?
I know that Anet wants to punish the users for quitting on purpose when they are down, but this piece of crap game coding has got to stop crashing every 30 minutes. It has been 5 months already and this problem still has not been resolved.
As of the recent few patches, the crash rate has gone up for my 32 bit windows vista game. I’m running a very decent i5 2500k pc with 4 gb ram and a 560 GTX and the game punishes me with its kittenty coding. Why the hell do I need to pay for repair bills when the game crashes and crashes like its my fault?!!!!
That’s 5 exclamation marks there, and for whatever code of conduct we players need to observe, how about Anet devs issuing a nice statement that they can fix this crashing problem some time soon??? I can’t even run medium settings because the crash will come in within 3 waypoint moves or less. Heck I’m on lowest settings and I still crash and crash.
Just holy crap. And now I have to queue all over again and pay for my repair bills.
The highlighted part is your problem. vista is an extremley crappy buggy os. suggest going to 7 ( 8 is pretty much the same as vista)
The only time that I’ve experienced instability is when I had my Audio setting to high. I would get a loud buzzing sound in large battles, and then my machine would freeze. Taking it down a notch completely solved the problem.
But I agree about the quitting. I never thought it was a big problem to begin with.
900 + hours, 64 bit build with SLI 560’s
I too just noticed the Vista OS. You really do need to upgrade. I think you can still get Windows 8 for $35?
That is your problem.

I had a crashing problem once.
Turned out it was bad RAM.

I played the witcher 2, Mass Effect 2, 3 DA:O, DA 2, Dark souls, etc on win vista without any crashes. I actually do have Windows 7 64 bits and GW2 hasn’t crash yet on that platform, but most of my stuff are installed on Vista. I really don’t understand why users are trying to fix it themselves instead of asking Anet to fix the problem (by changing OS).
I play fine on vista so its not his os
Its compatibility problems rooted within vista that is outside the developers control. vista is more like playing russian roulette with games. Ive had games that i was not able to open despite having necessary specs and the box saying it was compatible with vista.
If your set on not moving your personal effects on to a newly installed os the best thing you can do is run the game in admin mode and/or check the windows xp compatibility mode in the properties menu. it solved a few crashing problems during my time in vista
I’m on Windows 7 I’m having the same problem and I know a lot of other people are as well but at the moment we just have the bare with it.
You will die every so often because of it but really there isn’t much we can do at the moment but wait until the next patch and see if it works then. (I died in Crystal Deserts NN camp yesterday because it lagged out for 20 seconds and then did a fast forward of everything hitting me and DC’d strait after, so yeah I know it’s annoying.)

Are you using ATI cards or Nvidia?
I had this problem for months. Then I read a thread on this forum that offered a possible solution. I think (wish I remembered for sure) that the fix was turn turn the Frame Limiter in the graphics options to 30.
I know the Frame Limiter says it is for power and heat and this doesn’t seem power or heat related but I wasn’t having a heat issue either. Try it and see if it helps. In the mean time I’ll see if I can find that thread I read.
Edit: Forgot to mention I now play with the graphics settings set to High, something I couldn’t do before without frequent crashes.

Have you submitted your specs to Anet in a helpdesk ticket? Also, why is this in WvW? There are tech support boards.

Currently trying out your fix.
Usually a gaming computer has 64-bit OS. I just switched from Win7 32-bit to Win8 64-bit and there is a huge difference in performance.
No crashes so far and can run on medium/high settings. 1400X1050
4gm ram is plenty.
