Opposing commander tag
Well you can see the commander buff on the enemy status bar or possibly remember hes a commander from seeing him before.
I can tell via the commander icon they have when you target them.
what glaphen said, I always check which player is in front of the zerg, then see if they have a commander symbol.

In addition to the tag icon, some commanders use a potion of ascalonian mages to stand out more. If you see the blue shiny guy, it’s usually the commander.
dang how do you have time to target that one person in the middle of a fight? In chat some people seem to be able to instantly identify. Just wondered. If there some option I have not selected or something.
Game Menu > Control Options > bind a key to “target nearest enemy” and then it’s just a matter of tapping it a few times as you approach the front line of a zerg until you see the Commander buff.
focus on Dungeons, Fractals and Raiding.
Also, if its a guild group running, more times than not the commander is the guy leading the charge. So, if you’re towards the front too, the first guy you tab to with “target nearest enemy” is most often the commander. So this is a good way to find a tagless commander. It’s how I hunt them down to moa them >:D

Another thing that makes this easier is that guilds usually follow the same 3 or 4 commanders, so it’s just a matter of finding out how they look and what wvwvw title they have.
