Option for automatic loot in WvW

My guess it’s a coding time resources issue, and possibly a server resources issue. I’m no programmer, but I would imagine that something that is automated requires more hardware resources than something that requires a client trigger. However, assuming hardware resources are not an issue, it’s probably something that would not be overly easy to change in the game engine, thus the “middle ground” they implemented with AoE looting. If it were possible to code, then it would be a matter of being able to allocate the programmer resources to such a project, and there are very likely more important projects (to Anet) that those resources are working on.

Automation doesn’t cost more (and can cost less) resources than client triggering because you still have to listen for client input (which is basically automation). This could be more resource intensive for the server if the automation was very rapid, such as firing every frame, but they could easily get away with half second pulses.
This is something Ive wondered about since the start of the game and never received a reply as to why this option, now that loot is personalized, hasent been implemented. The aoe key is nice, however, not having to worry about loot while your focused on the real aspect of WvW is better.
If you bags fill up, simply turn the option off until you hit a vendor.
Seems like you have two options, press F or continue the fight. Does it really take that long to hit one key? They even made it area effect. Working as intended. There are much more pressing issues in wvw than getting your common helm or tattered leather.

Should just have automatic loot in all games, period. FFXI and FFXIV do it, and so does DCUO.

Not a bad idea but it’s not hard to bind a key to AOE loot and just hit it when yellow numbers pop up on your screen. You don’t have to stop running/fighting/whatever, loot is just magically placed in your bags. It has like a 600-900 range. I’ve gotten used to just hitting my AOE loot key whenyellow pops up that it’s become second nature. Now the system before AOE loot was hell.
This is a big problem, 80% of the time i dont have time to loot lol.
Dunno if is possible but the loot action should not count in the globalcooldown of the skill, so i can keep fight and loot like a real warrior ahaha

Yes Please. Also – when downed loot either gets added to inv or an “unclaimed loot” window.
Its easy to say “its just one key to press” but when you’re spiked hard and your fingers already halfway to “autoloot” that fraction of a second can make you lose your heal opportunity…and your loot.
It also makes you think "heal? or loot?? and if its smc and the lags harsh you may not even get that option.

Yeah try doing that on Tier 1 three way zerg fight in SMC with the skill lag and 5 fps….good luck

Shame if you missed your pre-courser or keg of exp, that would suck.

I like the idea of auto-loot but as someone has mentioned it doesn’t take that long to press F. Not only that how often do you really get anything besides stuff you’re just going to sell/throw away? If I miss a bag because I’m downed, meh… There will be other times. And unless you’re pushing 20 buttons at a time while in combat it isn’t that hard to move your finger to F.
Not scrutinizing your idea, I would be all for it. Just saying it’s not really an issue imho. AoE is perfectly functional has only failed me when I’m downed and can’t pick it up.

and many games do have wvw or something similar and auto loot
i see where it could be helpull, examples: if you are using ACs and get eventually overrun or fight in zergs
sometimes zerg fights last really long that bags actually disappear; ppl say just spam F but here is the joke: rez has higher priority than looting, there were quite few times when i tried to loot bags during fight and ended up in rezzing animation and got stuck in it which is really bad if you are in 50 vs 50 fight

ANet did have coding resources to implement different types of loot bags/chests according to what they contain. Players can select what to pick up and what to leave behind. Not working as planned, is it?
Just like everyone else, I pick up everything and then try to sell useless items at Trading Post. If the price is not right, then I sell the items to a vendor. Work, not fun.
Why are there junk (gray) items in the game? Why at level 80 and wearing Exotic gear, I still get low level, poor quality items? And in such abundancy that I have to visit a vendor several times per play session?
Why do I have to pick up loot bags, when the loot bags already manage teleport from dead enemies to my location even across entire map? How is that final one extra yard into my backpack impossible? (or final half a yard as I play Asura)

Putting living story mobs in WvW is obviously far more important than providing players with things they actually want.

Just make sure u spam the F or the mapped key every once in a while fighting other ppl, that way u get the most, if not all drops

I’m in a t1 server who often participates in SMC blob 3 ways. I keybind my loot button to the go back button on my mouse. When I people start dying and the EXP bonuses start rolling up, you just spam the go back button on your mouse while continuing to fight. It doesn’t really effect my ability to do anything else.

I love pressing the action key over 60 times a minute not knowing if i will loot, res, build, man siege or repair.
It makes the game intersting and it gives me something to do while i stand amidst of a large group of enemies wating for my skills to finally activate.

Or at least they should institute is the ability to AoE loot after we are dead. We made the kill, we earned the loot. We shouldn’t lose it because the other guy’s friends showed up (or a npc mob piled on). In those circumstances you’re probably furiously fighting for your life. Looting your kills probably isn’t at the top of your priority list.

Sure it’d be a nice feature, but i just spam aoe loot while i spam my attacks in zerg fights. I’ve also started spamming aoe loot more when i’m about to go down, to make sure I get most of it before i get wiped lol.

You know, I don’t blame you for thinking ANet isn’t capable of intuitive design decisions, but really the obvious solution is that the autoloot will never fill the last slot of your bags.
