Rocking Wizard Wars until this mess of a game is fixed…
https://twitter.com/DragonSeasonCom/status/304249153335218176
I really hope this is yet another wind up…
Orange swords will never show again in lower tiers. Ghost battles and ninja’d keeps for everyone!
I think this is good ( For top Tier at least)
It ll kill mono-zerg gameplay and give a boost to small guild who try to cap things.
50+big zergs now become 2×25 without sword.
Would be even more better if they set the threshold somewhere bewteen around 15.
Now plz remove portal bombing exploit.
It’s a shame we have news through twitter from an inteview of colin….

I think this is good.

Or it will just take more strategy out of the game. I guess we will wait and see.
Interesting to see how this plays out.
i approve this change. now scouting comes into play like it should.
Upcoming WvW patch = purchased waypoints will be useless.
Nice!
Zerg tactics getting bashed in the face with a baseball bat.
Good riddance.
i dont think it should be 25 but 10 would be good 25 allows zergs to still attack a keep but now they dont get seen with swords
This actually sounds nice. Now someone accidentally hitting their skill while targeting a gate won’t trigger orange swords when the small group is trying to be silent. This is a step towards smaller groups becoming more of a threat in WvW, as opposed to everyone just zerging all over the place.

The number will be tweeked more than once I think. Regardless, making zerg tactics less effective is a welcome change.
Maybe people will actually be communicating in map chat for once and stop chasing blue icons like a bunch of lemmings.
This is long overdue imo. WvW is about to get a lot more strategic and technical.
From someone who has spent many an hour guarding keep gates, I seriously hope this happens. If you need me I’ll be at the watergate.
Now if they just took out the white swords.
It only says orange swords right? It doesn’t say anything about changing the white swords that appear over a contested objective. You will still know when objectives are under attack. Unless I am missing something.

White swords can be triggered by a single player.
T1, players using thieves tend to run by, hit the door and run off. It can be a good distraction, and will likely prove to be even more so with the update.
Assuming it’s just the orange swords and you still get the contested white swords it just means more active patrolling/defending of your walls in places like Bay/Hills to spot the small ninja team making a break in a wall while you’re being distracted by the zerg out front etc.
I can see that being a good strat. Large force attacking gate 1, small ninja group attacking gate 2. I wonder if people will start placing seige on every wall and hitting the cap more frequently.

Um…. if anything it encourages zerging.
Orange swords notify you of an attack of >5 players.
Now they will only notify you of an attack of >25 players.
So large groups, i.e. zergs, will now have benefits previously only afforded to tiny groups.

Well that depends on your definition of zerg.
What amount of players are we talking about? If it discourages 50 people from chasing 1 blue icon down to 2 groups of 24 chasing 2 blue icons then it’s a step in the right direction don’t you think?
If this does help stealthy keep grabs as you know it will then yes you could say people will just have to scout better or spend more of their WvW time running up and down maps to check contested places. But ultimately in my opinion we would just see alot less tower upgrading after loosing fully upgraded fully supplied keeps to small fast groups and much more just capping and re-capping un-upgraded towers with large zergs, as people would see the upgrading expenditure as a waste. The reason is mostly the quite long timer when something is contested, unless someone is stationed there at all times then it’s going to get nabbed fast after it’s been given the all clear.
Hope I’m proved wrong but I don’t think I will be.
now huge zergs can attack stuff and only have it contested except if there are 25 fools instead of the usual 5.. yeah SURE this will help zerging.
+1 for this change. Less zerg oriented more small team oriented.
Now get rid of (change) downed state and AOE cap(increase) and I’ll be a happy camper.

25 players is not a zerg imo
This does not effect zerging it would require 25 people to be hitting the wall or door anyone with a brain knows you need allot less to break the door and can have about 50+ just standing around waiting for the breech.
We have witnessed a whole 2 guild raid hold back off the guards send 4 people in to kill them and pull back then send 3 back on door in golems to take garrison all without yellow swords.
So in effect people will always adapt to this the more larger numbers make use of white swords the more large forces will respond to white sword and the little ninja groups are still going to get steam rolled
(edited by Axle.5182)
Yeah I think giving an advantage to a group of up to 25 people is a really nice thing and will help move away from the 40-60 man zergs.
So let me get this straight, increasing the group size from 5 to 25 to trigger swords will reduce zerging? Doesn’t this mean bigger groups can now move about and take keeps without triggering swords?
(edited by Sureshot.6725)
I think 25 is a little too high, as 25 players can quickly take down a gate. 15 is a better number.
I like this, but I think it should go hand-in-hand with a lot of other related changes.
On it’s own, this change does mean that upgrading keeps will be pointless. If, however, upgrades cost Karma or were free, instead, then it’s another matter.
Make it that atleast 3 people have to attack a gate before it get’s contested.
Oh and I think this makes the game a lot more dull… this just gives another advantage to the server with the most players.
This change will suck in T7. All this will do is let entire zergs be ninja. (Yes, on T7, 20 people is a zerg, we are in T7 for a reason).
This won’t change anything. You’ll still have your full zergs, only enough will hold back at a keep or the like to keep the swords off. They’ll come into play once the gates are down or they’re discovered. All this does is make it harder to respond to a zerg.
I think 25 is a little too high, as 25 players can quickly take down a gate. 15 is a better number.
I agree, 15 would be a decent number. 15 people is hardly a zerg.

…but 15 doesn’t do what they want, which is to split up big zergs.

Eh, I could see it split up a 50 man into 3 15-20 mans. I’m okay with this.

This will not change a thing in WvW. We run a squad of 15 to 20 and don’t draw orange swords currently b/c we only use just enough at a time to not draw swords; also called strategy. This will just make it a lot easier for a zerg to not draw swords and make it harder for small teams to cap things b/c people will always assume it is a zerg hitting when they see the normal white swords. I currently rely on people ignoring white swords and chasing the orange swords. Zergs aren’t going to get smaller guys….they just now will be provided that much more cover.

You obviously dont play in T 1/2/3.

Trying to follow your logics…Easier for zergs, harder for small groups, but everyone will assume white swords will be zergs so they’ll defend better. Just learn to defend the area you hold instead of relying on maps, which it seems like this change will do. Sounds right to me.

What does that have to do with the price of eggs in China? T 1/2/3/4/5/6/7/8 doesn’t matter. Increasing the cap for orange swords does only one thing…that is provide more cover for larger groups. I personally do not care if you zerg or if you prefer a small squad this change will only promote larger groups. So if you dislike zergs this is a bad idea. If you like zergs then this is a good idea. Speaking of T 1/2/3 and looking down your nose at lower tiers is irrelevant of what the change would do. If you use sound communication and strategy with the current orange sword mechanic you will not draw orange swords…as I stated currently we can send a squad of 20 at a tower and they never draw orange swords until we attack the lord.
Not sure if I like this. Atm the enemy has scouts almost everywhere anyway while our server is kinda slacking in that department (having lower numbers and all, can’t afford too many players missing). Now you see orange swords and can usually respond/ask in chat what’s going on, with the change the white swords will be 1-25 players instead of 1-5 (with possibility of more ofc). Meh.
If every WvW map was full all the time then I’d say it’s a good change. But if enemy has numerical superiority, they’ll be able to use this more than outmanned ppl.
P.S. Anet, change the friggin outmanned buff to actually give something that helps the outmanned people. Would do more for WvW than crappy sword changes.
I think it is a step in the right direction.
The challenge will be to keep your ‘zerg’ at less than 25 players.
As well, how do Rangers (possibly Mesmers and Necros?) fit in? Right now, 4 players won’t cause crossed swords but 5 will. If 4 players includes a Ranger with a pet, it seems that the pet counts as a 5th player and causes crossed swords.
Again, not sure if this also applies to Mesmer clones or Necro minions but this needs to be fixed as every Ranger in your zerg could count for two players.

I played in T1 and 2 and currently reside on DB in T3….he’s right this helps larger groups. I can now hide my 40-50 person guild raid a lot easier without having to worry about the 5-10 pugs that are following the commander tag around setting off orange sword alerting people to our location….I can also clear NPC’s and cannons and oil without triggering orange swords..letting people know where we are attacking…meaning…in the time race of my guys burning a gate down with golems or superior siege..I will be on the inner gate before you’ve figured out what gate we’re hitting….

What i said.
You obvisouly dont play in T1/T2/T3 where you have only 1 commander with 90+pugs behind him.
If it does not change anything for your so pro team on your low tier realm, it ll def have consequences for top tier where most of pug players play.

Is this information provided, officially, here on the official forums?
If not, and this turns out to be true, then where should we get our news from in the future? I hope we are not expected to get our news from random twitter or other social networking sites.
The poor scouts who have to sit in every kitten tower for hours on end now. I call not it.

It was a tweet. Anet likes to use social media to update their player community rather than post stuff on their actual forums.
So keep checking Twitter, Facebook, Redit and 4chan for future GW2 updates!

Your argument is ignorant. T1/T2/T3 is no argument. Explain how this change will not promote cover for a larger group. That is all I stated it would do. So being on T8 or T4 is has no relevence to this conversation.
Would love to see the sword not be automated at all.
How about having a huge pile of wood logs at each location and only when it is being attacked, a player can light the logs on fire (smoke signals) which would then place the swords on the map?
This way, if only 2 people are attacking a keep/tower, you would just go dispatch them instead of lighting the smoke signals and wasting your teammates time, but if say 20 were attacking, it would be pretty important to get to the fire pit and light it up to allow all to see the swords on the map.
Well, in my case, I sometimes run with my guild in a group of 5. Currently, attacking a camp which you can’t really ninja since you have to attack the supervisor, can very well get the attention of a zerg if the other team so desires to send a zerg. 5 people vs 20+ is no contest. If they increased the orange sword limit to even 10, then we could quietly take camps and move on before another small party or zerg realizes what’s happening. I like running in small groups, taking camps and at times towers. I welcome this change for situations such as this or scouting. I’m not saying increasing the amount of players to trigger orange swords would improve this, but it probably will not hurt either. Yes, camps are rather easy to take for a small group currently, but there’s been times where (thanks to orange swords), a zerg has rolled over the small group I’m in.
Of course, the other side of this is if people see white swords at a camp, they won’t know how many people are over there and will end up sending a zerg anyways. Making white swords trigger on x many people would be a bad idea though.
I can see where this change could be bad, but for some reason, I see more good than bad out of it.
This is sad. >3< Does this mean we have to roam areas at all time? Instead of orange swords, even if white swords show; we’ll have to be there?
This will take time in adjusting. Not something I am looking forward too. Though it would make my life easier as I love siege ing secretly.

WOW! I have never thought about defending a structure. How would you go about doing that? Just to remind you that seeing white swords is relying on the map too. Nice argument, but you still haven’t disputed the fact that this change supports cover for larger groups. I simply stated that if you like zergging this is the way to go. I can’t see how this helps smaller groups.
