Make it like the orb protector in the north. Put a shield on the altar to make it immune from damage and people getting close to it (fliers) until the guild claimer is killed. I don’t see how this is hard nor what is wrong with this solution. Just do it Anet…

Server – Borlis Pass
Guild – FIST Leader
Main Toon – Razzer Fel Level 80 Warrior

They need to also fix it so that either you can repair an alter, or they reset consistently/correctly. Its pretty stupid to lose multiple orbs because your alter is permanently broken, and your forced to try to take another keep while watching the orb reset and disappear because your alter is bugged.

Call me when this game gets fixed…. if it ever does….

You can’t simply change something in a second. They are fixing issues but they wont be fixed immediately.

Sorry to necro the thread, but it was the first hit on google when researching how to repair broken alters.

My comment on this is simply:

If Anet is working on a fix or if the broken alter status is intentional it would be nice to know these things. I’m fine with the bugs that are in the game, what with the huge amount of code and dependencies that a game like this has. I would like to see more communication from Anet about what bugs they have on the list, and what the priority is. I understand that admitting or officially publishing bugs and priorities can be seen as bad form and that it can draw attention from those that like to exploit, but it would make those of us who see them and know of them and do not exploit them feel better about the game in general.

An example would be the borderlands jumping puzzle doors being broken. Was this intentional or an unintentional consequence of another fix? There are more than a few “bugs” in the game that could be seen as intentional short term fixes waiting for the time/resources to make a permanent fix, yet we’re stuck with guessing.

On exploiting… on Blackgate (at least in the major alliance) all forms of exploiting, 3rd party gold buying, and general hacking are severely frowned upon. Many people have found themselves reported and guild kicked for this. Ostracism in an MMO can be very powerful, and I would suggest all servers/alliances do the same. My thoughts are simply, if you can’t play by the rules, you didn’t win. And what’s the point of playing to win, if you need to cheat to do so.

They need to disable orbs completely as long as they cannot prevent the exploiting.
It simply causes grief to the server which is loosing the orb, and to the reputation of the server which gains it.

I kinda disagree. The orbs add a layer of complexity to the borderlands that is both fun and engaging. However they do need to fix the ability to repair the alters. I can see no reason that after an alter breaks and the orb resets that the team that had the orb shouldn’t be able to repair their alter.

What I don’t understand is how speed hacking can happen. So many performance issues are caused by so much stuff needing to be server side to prevent this. E.G. the culling issue, rubberbanding, etc. I’m not sure why this hasn’t been fixed, as I would think it was a very hot issue at the Anet office.
