Dead horse, but more of a recommendation.

- 25 points will still make it a worthy objective of contention on competitive match-ups.
- Easy to program and balance.
- For one-sided match-ups, only score is an issue rather than overwhelming power.
- General consensus is no one enjoys fighting 3 orb players.
- Shut out servers can have a fighting chance.

This is a nice suggestion. It seems when one side has 3 orbs, the other two realms just give up for the remainder of the week which makes WvW very boring for all 3 servers.

Even something like getting an orb gives your realm 25 tokens or something so there still is an incentive to take them and win the match.

As people have said before, all they really need to do is flip the stats for orb with the one for outmanned and vice versa. Maybe give the orbs an extra coin bonus as well. Most servers with 3 orbs on the winning end get bored because fights become less challenging when you are so ridiculously buffed.

As people on TC have said in /team chat. We are already winning the map. Do we really need that buff?

On the other hand… the orbs are so shiny. Must have.

I really like this suggesion, but I feel that 25 points may be a bit high. I’m not sure what a proper balance should be, but I would guess in the ball park of 5-15 points each.

However, I do like the current situation where the fighting for and claiming of the orbs in the Borderlands can swing some of the fights in the Eternal Battlegrounds due to the orb buffs. Changing it to point generation would negate the effects of the Borderlands battles on the Battlegrounds, thus completely segregating the maps.

I’ve actually been toying around with the idea of the orb giving players a debuff for having it. If actually much more skilled and organized than the other servers you could hold all three for extreme points gain but in more even positions or as the underdog you wouldn’t have to desperately claw at the orbs to stand a chance on the map, and in fact you would prefer to grab the orbless keeps on a map first.

This might eliminate PvGate play as having pushed both other teams out of a map would mean that they had a significant combat advantage in such straightforward fights instead of just the predictable legendary defenders that give you free reign so long as you stay just far enough back.

The idea obviously has some flaws as teams would do things like place orbs in the most vulnerable keep to force a team to either take more out of their way objectives or take a stat penalty that could very well lose them the keep- or the invaders would move the orb and let it time out to weaken the home team of a borderland and in general it becomes too hot potato.

Even so the borderlands seem to be clearly designed with some rubber banding in mind to advantage a team that has very little to defend, it’s just that the orbs defeat this possibility by making it possible for the offensive to continue when there are no points left to take and players should clearly need to try harder to defend their holdings. The impossibility of small groups claiming, upgrading, and defending small objectives when hundreds of players are already at the gate or nearby really amplifies the problem of servers having no players in any particular map once they have been pushed out.

They just aren’t going to build up to full population spontaneously from there and if they had a guild or three that could bolster the numbers that much all at once then they wouldn’t have lost everything for several days in a row in the first place.

The greater rewards of the magic find buff would be great for getting players back into a battleground except that this boost vanishes when they get to around two thirds the number of enemy players even though at that point they’re still terribly outnumbered and significantly outgunned by the 3 orb buff.
You might be able to make the outmanned buff instead apply until the team was earning a certain number of objective points on that map- like 1/5th total for eternal or foreign borderlands and 1/4th for the home borderland (since the terrain is so stacked in your favor anyway you should always be able to at least contest the north towers, except that trebs can nail them from the garrison.)

e: You could just get different orb effects in EB than in the borderlands. That stat buff from the orbs could still be well balanced for only the EB fight while it causes people to not participate in any map due to how it plays out on the other three.
