Other fails?
Yes, yes there is.
It was called the New Game Enhancement.
Has anyone else seen a gaming company destroy their product so quickly with one single move? After that disaster, what did they do to recover/rebuild? Did they succeed?
One thing a lot of people have asked for is a reversion back to the old BL. But do companies ever do something that so highlights their failure — even if the benefits are great?
Perhaps Anet can learn something from the experiences of others?
Learning something would require admitting a mistake and thus far I’ve seen no indication they’re willing to do that.

Yes. That was a good read. Thank you

Best read in a while.
I feel like this is exactly what is happening to the game right now or more specifically to WvW. Been a WvW addict for 3 years and I mean it, I was litterally addicted to this game mode. But lately, I would rather do anything else than WvW. I no longer feel any need to play it and the few times I have tried since HoT it’s been a painful experience. And a sad one…
Sure there are still the objectives and the sieges are there but something changed. I don’t know if it’s the gameplay changes or the community that changes, but any time I logged into a WvW map in the past months and especially lately, I had this feeling : “This is not the game I used to love to death”. And I can’t stand that feel. I don’t know why, I just know that I don’t find it fun anymore.
Agree with everything Afala says.
I really really really am trying to like it.
Its just not the same.
Its like the feeling when you first get the red ring of death on the old xbox 360.
You say to yourself, “i don’t know what it is, but that doesn’t look good..hmmmm.”

ArcheAge.
All we wanted was a GvG.
Although not a game, removing the start menu from Windows 8.0 caused issues for many users. Microsoft responded by releasing 8.1 with a better but still incomplete start menu. Then they skipped Windows 9 and offered a free upgrade to Windows 10, which has a start menu again. My experience with Windows 8 is much like my experience with the HoT WvW changes. When I upgraded from XP to Windows 8.0 I tried to like it, but no luck. I now use Widows 7 64bit Pro.

This is what I envision when ANET starts to fix this mess they made in wvw.

Yes, x100. I would add CU to that, too. I would say HOT for GW2, as far as W3 is concerned, is the “new game enhancement” of SWG.
So how did the devs react to the NGE? Sounds like the changes were so big that it was impossible to quickly fix/revert. Or did they just stay the course, hoping it would turn out ok? Or maybe they didn’t even realize there was a problem?
They didn’t have any player testing?
If you take off the Rose Colored Glasses you realize population has been a problem for a long time now.
Once people are allowed to play together it might be a different story. But for now we’re stuck on fractured leagues of way too many servers. Maybe we shouldn’t have cried bandwagon so much. I’d kill to have some wagon v wagon about now.
Wish I could move around to find some action but the paywall slows me down too much.

And SOE is no more, having been bought out by an investment company and morphed into Daybreak, and most of the key people at SOE sacked…
The SWG community was so desperate that they made their own client software from scratch:
swgemu
It is a impressive piece of work and playable although the graphics didn’t age well. It’s open-source too, I think, and thus totally in the hands of the community and safe from the imbeciles who ruined the game.

Yep, they pretty much did a 180 on the original game design and a large percentage of the player-base hated it and cancelled their subs. No subscription in GW2 fortunately for Anet, so people will probably stick around a while longer to see what the WvW changes are.

Unfortunately yes. Galaxies was my first MMO. I don’t think GW2 is in the same position however. All my issues with game as is are fixable.
