Iv had this theory in my mind for point calculation for years, long before GW2 WvW was even on the table, but i believe this method, could improve things, but then again it could not. Alot of people seem to be throwing out that their needs to be a fix, but few seem to offer a solution other than hope it washes away, likely with their tears.

This is an attempt to solve any “issue” with stacking in a particular timezone. And make the points calculation worth more in the time when the entire matchup is most active.

For starters the change would be to make the points generated from holding land scale with the amount of players on map. This would be the TOTAL players across all 3 factions.
I don’t know the exact numbers but im lead to believe its 166 per map, per server.(1992, total players) Lets say every server has their population at 100% and players in que, each node would generate its maximum points (let’s just use the default values of 5, 10, 25, 50)
So now let’s say:
server X has 664 players on map(they’re 100% full)
server Y has 500 players on map(75% full)
Server Z has 400 players on map(60% full)
1564 players total. (78.5% capacity) so this would now mean that each node would generate its point total x 0.785 so holding a supply camp would be worth 3.92 points per tick(the server would keep track of the points after decimal point, we don’t need to see it exactly at every tick) and therefore stone mist would only be worth 39.25 points per tick.

As you can see points generated when in off peak(for the entire matchup) would be less but based off the match ups population and not some arbitrary time zone designated by arenanet. So when entering a timezone where you have less population online if an enemy is infact “zerging” you then holding land in that time period is worth less and therfore any land they take too.

There’s a whole bunch of issues this may bring up, or be more open to exploiting than the current method of but overall i cant see it been worse than the current system or any half baked idea of turning off wvw outside of US primetime.

Almost a million people joined the game in the last 3 weeks and more guilds are joining daily.

They could lock servers with queues, funneling the new players/guilds (which will include all timezones) onto the low pop servers and within a short period all servers will have healthy 24/7 populations…..

A much easier solution – and one that will help make all the servers be a fun place to partake in W3 and give them foundations to get organised and if they wish compete to be the best.

I just don’t think any sort of points scaling is the answer because whoever is getting scaled down is having their overall contribution devalued. I think Aedgyth is right. Encourage people to go the the servers with lower W3 pops and things will start to balance out.
