Overnight score reduction?
Problem is off peak hours for you are not the same for oceanic people. There really isn’t a simple solution to this other than forming alliances outside the game.
Why someone with other timezone/lifestyle than you must suffer/see their effort degraded for your own pleasure…?
Why not just fix it on a population level if a server has outmanned then points will not tick this removes the incentive to wait to play till an enemy server goes to sleep and points only accrue when a server actually can defend itself. They can still cap and take the whole zone but no points till forces are equalized. Or very slow points gain.

Cos that would still mean people who bought the game and rolled on a specific server will have their efforts diminished. People want to matter, going this route is the opposite.

Your primetime is not my primetime. On US servers you have 3 hours difference between the East Coast and West Coast, and a further few hours difference over to Australia/NZ. In EU we have mainland EU with +-1 hour and Russia (which spans 10 timezones though the majority is probably within 4/5 hours of the rest of Europe). Which one should we designate as primetime for each region?

Sadly I think this is partially because the server limits are so high. Since the servers ALLOW such a large player base and such large guilds, they’re able to form massive alliances.
I think instead of trying to fix the primetime vs night-time issue they need to find a way to encourage servers/guilds to spread out.
Yeah the only problem with reducing scores at night is just that then you make Oceanics feel like there is no real point in WvWing because they can’t do anything. I mean sure my server does have a fair number of Oceanics, but I’m saying this just for their benefit, not my servers WvW score. If I was in Aussie or something and was told that pretty much anything I do in WvW at “night” is just pointless and barely gives anything, why would I play? Why would you deprive thousands of people the right to play the game to its fullest?
Sorry but this is definitely not the answer. Sooner or later all the servers with high Oceanic presence will only have each other to fight, so just calm down and let it come to pass.

What is night? there is no night in cross-country video games. My night is your day, maybe the only reason your server does good during the day is because the other server is sleeping? so, YOU’RE night capping.
fixing “night capping” is silly.

Yes.. well.. perhaps to avoid this problem, there should be North American Servers, European Servers.. and Oceanic Servers.. the fact there isn’t a list of Oceanic servers.. is pretty much breaking WvW at this time.. as some ppl in my guild are saying now.. WvW should be renamed “Oceanic Wars” lol

Such a garbage argument against this. Firstly to put that kitten to bed, you’re saying that a server’s peak time playerbase, which makes up the vast majority of the server, should suffer because a handful of people want to play on servers on the opposite side of the Earth to them… such nonsense.
Secondly, a simple fix of scaling the points based upon population levels in the borderlands would be fair on both… if you play at peak time and all borderlands are 100% populated then you get 100% point income. If at 5am server time the server is left for those largely in different timezones but only has a 20% population, then you should get 20% point income, simples.
Note: that still wouldn’t fix the fact that people logging in to fill up the borderlands the next day would face the uphill struggle of fully upgraded keeps littered with dozens of siege weapons BUT it would stop the impossible point leads being generated.
It is really, really simple: Right now this game has it completely backwards when it comes to who impacts the outcome the most.
The people who play at peak time when all borderlands are full fight for the scraps at the table – they fights for endless hours and very little is achieved, a few keeps change hands here and there and nothing gets the time or supplies to be upgraded.
The people who play at offpeak time when the borderlands are largely empty and usually one server fields a much larger force than the other two are enjoying the main course. They get a hell of a lot achieved in a very short period of time and have the largest impact on the outcome of WvW.
If you seriously think that is a completely fine way for the game to be then GL to you and all those who bother to keep playing with you, as the numbers will dwindle very quickly and most people will simply move on to playing other games and Guild Wars 2 will become ‘that’ MMO that the best thing someone can come up with to say about it is “yeah… maybe I’ll try it out again 6-12 months from now”
The outmanned buff gives me more exp karma, and magic find. That is the best thing a FARMER could ask for. So if you get outmanned plop on a magic find booster, pop on a nourishment with 30/40 magic find, put on your traveller set, and farm the hell out of the level 80 mobs on the map! It’s the best farming you can do in the entire game since you have an additional buff for it.
I think outmanned needs to even the score along with the extra gains. This would be +stats which it currently doesn’t do..
To the poster above me :
“yeah… maybe I’ll try it out again 6-12 months from now”
That’s kind of my thoughts exactly, however there is no maybe to it. The thing here being I will retry it when they add in guildwars formats that separated guildwars from other games and made it GUILDWARS. I say I got two weeks maybe a month left at tops.

Thanks for seeing the bigger picture Xonal.
In order to fix the “fully” upgraded forts problem, perhaps it would be best to make forts / towers harder to capture… and longer / more expensive to upgrade. Also, having some kind of lock mechanic might not be a bad idea. Once a fort is captured by a server, it could be locked and impossible to re-capture for 30 minutes or so.. while towers could be locked for 15 minutes.. to at least give a chance for the capturing server to set up defensive siege equipment ect.. and let the fight move to a different location.

It already has like a 5 minute lock currently. You don’t need 15 minutes to build siege equipment >.<

The points reduction idea is silly as the game is a 24 hour / 7 day event. Perhaps a ‘better’ idea is to allow for ‘balanced numbers’. I would take great pleasure in nuking my guildmates.
The results WvW is a reflection of the community within the server. Clearly those communities are responsible for their own outcomes. Accept responsibilities and do something about it in game. Or ignore it and move on. Either way, you decide.
Server ranks really do not matter matter in the grand scale of things. What matters is whomever you face on that particular day. It would be very bad sportsmanship to ask Tiger Woods to not only play with his left hand, but to use one hand (He’d still beat me). I’d rather learn from him at his best.

I don’t see how its silly. Haven’t you played Lineage II or Aion? also by NC Soft? They have massive castle sieges but they only happen at specific times.. usually Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. from 9pm to 10 pm server time. In Aion, these castles are located in the Abyss.. which is a huge PVP world with some PvE components so even when Castle sieges are over, players still hang out there to PvE, farm or PvP.
No I’m not suggesting to make WvW like Aion or Lineage II where Forts can only be captured at specific times.. but look on the forums and its clear that WvW’s current mechanic does not work as intended.. If you’re on a server with little to no guilds playing on off peak hours, you will completely get dominated in WvW overnight and it will be nearly impossible to make up for that huge gap in points even if you manage to recapture more then 50% of the map during the day… because the next evening will come and the enemy server will take over 90% of the map again.
Something needs to be done, Im not sure what.. but Im trying to make constructive suggestions because I enjoy this game and I don’t want to see it fail. the WvW for alot of players was a selling factor in this game.. Huge epic castle sieges and battles sounds great! but if the only form of World pvp is broken, alot of pvp players will stop playing. SPVP is fun.. but its not a selling factor in this game.. I could do Battlegrounds in World of Warcraft. Guild wars 2 does not have world PvP in the traditional sense.. so to replace that, they’ve come up with WvW.. but it needs to work properly for players to want to play.
So like I said earlier, something that would tremendously fix this issue is simply having an Oceanic server list. Right now.. Oceanic guilds / players have to play on Us or European servers.. and this gamebreaking in WvW. But they cannot only add Oceanic servers and be done with it.. because even with that, what will happen is, Oceanic players will have no incentive to transfer to those servers. and same thing with US players playing on European servers or vice versa.. They’ll wanna stay where they are since it allows them to dominate. So something would have to be done in WvW to make these players who shouldn’t be on those servers go to their respective servers.. something like tremendously reduce WvW points generation on non peak hours.. which would help a little since 1 server wouldn’t be able to gain a huge points advantage overnight by owning 90% of the map.. however, this might not be enough as it would still allow them to capture the entire map at night and reinforce all the forts, making them much harder to take when normal server players return to play as they would be camped at their spawning corner for a while before being able to break through and start capturing forts…
So to prevent being pushed back to your spawning area everynight, castles could be harder to take and longer to upgrade. Maybe at non peak hours, forts and towers could spawn a bunch of NPC Champion guards to defend them, making them MUCH more difficult to capture at night time.
Heck, I would even be in favor of Simply locking out Forts and Towers, making them impossible to capture between certain times when servers activity is at its lowest.
I know some ppl will shocked and think this is ridiculous.. but thats probably because you’re one of those players playing in the wrong server owning everything when everyone is sleeping. Honestly, even by locking Forts and towers in off peak hours, WvW would still be ALOT of fun. You could still farm Karma, Exp, money and badges of honor by capturing and defending Supply points, killing Dolyaks and this would allow players to also do the WvW jumping puzzles.. where i’m sure alot of players will still be fighting. Anet could also add some cool off peak hours dynamic events to spice things up in WvW for the players who do wish to remain in there after the forts / towers are locked out.
I don’t know.. What I do know tho.. is.. Something needs to be changed… and soon.
NCSoft is the PUBLISHER. GW2 is developed by ANet, NOT NCSoft.

You are darn right! When I play all day long to take all those keeps and towers only to wake up and find all the US players took it back while I slept, is not fair! Lets reduce US peak time scores to 50%. /facepalm
I’m in the US and I usually play off-peak hours because that’s when I have the opportunity to play. Its not just a matter of where you are located.
If you want the daytime WvW to count more, how about having to pay a fee to play during those peak times? Or everyone who plays off-peak hours gets a 50% refund on their game since the WvW stuff they do wont matter, but you still have to pay full price? I am willing to bet that you don’t really like either one of those ideas….

Instead of just knocking ideas/suggestions.. maybe trying to come up with valid suggestions of your own would be the mature thing to do? I love how ppl always jump on suggestions.. and opinions and say “this is ridiculous” yet they don’t have anything valid to put on the table.
