Please keep in mind, if:

1) you do WvW almost exclusively and
2) do not have many skill points unlocked and
3) have little to no intention of unlocking them in PvE maps anytime soon and
4) want to unlock elite specializations to use in WvW,

then carefully consider how you spend your hero points tomorrow. You will be able to unlock only all of the base specializations and skills, but no elite spec or skills unless you get additional hero points. You do not have to unlock all of the traits and skills right away, and if you don’t, you can save them for the elite spec.

As far as I’m aware, you do not get to refund these Hero Points to move them around, so once you spend them they are spent. Many peoples’ main characters may be unaffected by this but your alts without much world exploration will certainly be.

They revised the decision to have more than the Level 80 Hero points for full unlock. A level 80 is supposed to be able to get full unlock if this announcement is correct.

A quick update on this one -> After feedback from presenting the original hero point count – we decided getting to level 80 will give you enough hero points to unlock all the core skills and traits entirely. Doing hero challenges (aka skill challenges) will simply allow you to earn all the skills/traits earlier before level 80. With the release of HoT, there will be options to spend the excess hero points earned from doing hero challenges in the world.

There are a number of other changes on 6/23 to make the experience from 1-80 more exciting, better-paced, rewarding, and fun as well after having the time to evaluate and player feedback from the updates last year.

yeah it gives you enough to unlock core, but not elite, so if you want elite you still need to go to pve. I mean you have to anyway, I assume elite specs gets unlocked by doing some pve
