This means that when you shoot your AOE you will hit 5 targets right? When 2 targets are blocking the AOE the AOE used to hit 2 others. Now the AOE will count the 3 targets + the targets that are blocking and not pick 2 other targets.
it will hit 5 targets or whatever the limit is on the skill.
whether those targets block or evade it is a separate calculation.
if all 5 evade it then you hit nothing whereas previously it would hit the next 5 etc. the reason for this is most likely to improve performance with less calculations, as the AoE cap only exists for performance issues to begin with, so they’re just making the cap a little bit… harder.
Am posting CST, 12:30pm. Out of the 24 North American servers, 19 are rated “very high” populations, the remaining 5 are at “high”.
That’s pretty good turnout for North American servers mid afternoon during a week day. Shows the #’s are there for more than the big 3 of BG, SOR, JQ to turnout for WvW. Maybe Anet is on the right track of adding achievement carrots so that the PvE crowd shows up to fill in the rest of the servers that lack in WvW participation.
In summary, for those that claim the “Game is dying”, far from it….

Rank up chests getting better rewards. Any idea what kinds rewards? Or just a better chance to get rares etc..

PvE carebears cried endless tears when they had to go into the jumping puzzle for one chest. Now they would actually have to stay and participate in WvW. One stomp and they’ll run back to the Prince.
Are those achievements for real? 255 sentries? 500 guards? But ONLY 450 WvW kills? During seven weeks of fighting? What??? Veteran of PvE in WvW?

Agreed. WvW kills should be higher. Guards should be lower.

Guards isn’t that much, You figure ~5 each camp ~2-6 for each keep. You’ll fly through those quite fast if you spend any time in a active zerg.
225 Sentries will be interesting though. I normally pass them and let “pugs” cap them as I have other things to do, I guess they will just have to be zerg rally points now.

the only reason there even IS an AoE cap is for performance reasons. so why make the AoE cap harder unless for performance reasons?

Maybe it’s per week of the season. We still have reset every Friday with new match-ups between the servers in our league. So I’m guessing these are per week figures.
The meta achievement is basically a kick in the balls for solo roamers. Especially if they weekly but I don’t think that is the case. Camps/kills/guards not a problem but keeps/castles…..just wow. But 7 weeks is a long time to take some stuff I suppose.
Edit: the rewards will probably be trash anyway. Good thing I consider my reward to be a simple victory in a fight.

the meta achievement is intending to get PvE’ers into WvW and keep them around long enough to get used to it so they aren’t afraid of it anymore and maybe will incorporate it into their long-term gaming experience.

I’m very surprised they originally coded it this way. Didn’t really make any sense flavorwise, plus it caused more calculations/data retrievals to be made.
Its going to make it harder on the server dominating to get those points since there won’t be as many to take snd more people to take them
