Wait, i’m confused… I don’t think I understand this whole pay to win thing here, can someone explain. If I gathered this right, when I go out and buy Mushroom Pizza in game cause i’m not a cook, but it does improve my condition duration by 24% and my condition damage by 60… ~Le gasp~ does that give me a pay to win advantage over that guy that didn’t buy Mishroom pizza? Oh gosh am I a dirty Pay to win cheater. Say it ain’t so….

But wait, can’t he buy the same mushroom pizza to give him those boosts, using ingame resources such as the money he earned ingame?….. So…. That would mean….. He’s just dumb and didn’t properly prepare himself for combat… Right?

I also went and bought about 7 black lion keys today ((Numbers are a tad off)) for around 1 gold and opened MORE chests and found these boosts… I’m confused isn’t that the same thing as buying a boost from that guy on the AH but from a different source.

OMG it all makes sense now, OP is trying to set up a black market and wants to muscle the competition… Arenanet out of the game by slandering their own ingame shop!

no, i was not joking or anything.
pay to win is where you can get an advantage by paying real money over players that cant.
or to put it another way, when you can buy power
since this game has no subscription, things like XP boosts and karma boosts are just getting more out of their playtime, which im okay with.
damage boosts on the otherhand are quite litrally buying power.

i ask you this, if those “pay to win” games you were talking about, with being 1000% better, if they had a “gold to gem” system like GW2, would they stop being pay to win instantly? no matter how much power was buyable?

also, at what % would you say the boosts are then pay to win?
10%? 100%? 1,000,000% extra dmg? if it’s buyable with gold, is that okay?
if buying 1,000,000% more damage with gems, even if it’s also buyable with gold is buying power, isnt 5% also buying power, just to a much lesser extent?

yes, you are right, it is not major, but it still goes against them saying that they would not sell power.

Except the advantage is available to all. So it’s still not pay-to-win.
Somebody want to shell out what I get for playing? No problem – I still have access to the same in-game items without paying.

Except that people who have money and are willing to use it can buy it a lot more than the ones who can’t. If having real money and spending it starts having an effect in in game stats, especially in pvp, such as WvW then that becomes Pay 2 Win, no matter how “small” it is. Fact still is, 10% reduced damage intake and 10% increased damage output will give you a huge advantage when fighting others in WvW. Sure it’ll have less effect in zergs, but when you go raiding with a small party, that 10%+10% has a huge effect.

I find is preposterous that they said that it wouldn’t become pay to win, and then they put this in. I wouldn’t mind it as much if they made it PvE only, but in PvP it is basically lying and false advertisement.

It’s Wv3. One 10% buff isn’t going to change the outcome across the entire war. There are many, many factors, from fort buffs to siege weapons to orbs to simple maths.

Secondly these things can be earned in-game. You use Tribes as an example, but you ignore the fact that Tribes is a gated experience. You have to level in order to have stuff. In GW2 you exchange one currency for another and you’re good to go. They don’t allow it in sPVP or Tournaments because they’re smaller in scale and much tighter in setup, and that’s to be applauded.

No one complained about flasks in BGs in WoW, or food buffs, or sharpening stones all of which are purchased using in-game currency in other games. You can do the same thing in GW2 without spending a Dime. Or pound. Or Euro.

Seriously it’s QQ for the sake of QQ without fully understanding how little 10% means in the content of Wv3.

These items are game ruining for me. They need to be removed. Anet said there would not be any pay to win items. Guess they lied to us.

If this is what they are coming out with a month into the game how many PAY to WIN items do you think we will have in say 8 months from now? How about they focus on making the game better so more people buy it.

As it stands right now with all the problems this game is having alot of people are already thinking of quitting and now your adding P2W items?

Pro tip why dont you focus on one of the most basic problems with this game. PERFORMANCE and EXPLOITS. Get the game fixed add some pve make the game truly great and 10million people will buy it.

Keep adding p2w items and its a sign the game is already dying and you guys are broke.

Except of course when you don’t “win”. “Winning” in Wv3 isn’t something a player is capable of. If someone buys 10%+10% but their server still loses, doesn’t that kinda throw off your point?

No one person has the capability of spending RL money to make their world win. If you’re in a small pack roaming and come up against another small pack there are so many other reasons you’d win/lose. 10%+10% does not guarantee a win. If you’re in the zerg then 10% means nothing… and if you’re defending/hitting a camp the NPCs, structures and siege play a bigger part.

So, again, with CONTEXT, 10% is nothing. Nor is it exclusive.

Say for example there is a keep under attack. It needs it supply line, let’s say it is hills. And you put 5 people to defend 1 camp or a dolyak while the rest defends. The enemy sends 5 people and they have 10%+10% buff and they wipe you. They take camp, your keep has no incoming supply and now the supervisor has a 4 min buff too and you have those 5 people defending it. You would need to send a force of 10 people after 4 minutes, just to take over that camp, when the 5 could have been more useful taking other camps. Thanks to that, you might even lose the keep.

In small ways the 10%+10% buff will have a big influence.

I’m as concerned as the OP about GW2 becoming P2W. I came from a game that was a typical sub model, went to a hybrid F2P model and is now so P2W that the PvP is unplayable for anyone not P2W. That being said, I see no issues with these 2 buffs in WvW. 10% isn’t going to stop the zerg from killing you, lol.

I’d be more upset but two of my servers boarderlands were intsa-queue all weekend and we were outnumbered 4 or 5 to one. 10% wouldn’t have mattered to anyone.
