There are several ways to counter it, but telling it would be like giving away free gold.

Do some theory crafting and get together your guild to test it out.

1. Roll a thief and abuse stealth.

2. Get a group of 10 or so mesmers, and maintain feedback on the zerg. Continue to AoE nuke it until they kill themselves or they split up. Then kill as normal.

How about necromancer staff mark stacking?

Long range, goes right through bubbles since they are not projectiles, and doesn’t require the enemy to draw on your screen to go off.

Also, fear marks would make hash of their stacking and focus.

Dropping them in the right spot would require some communications, but thats it.

Defensive siege can cause delay to a zerg, namely by killing their rams, but that’s all it can do: delay. And not by much, really, because a 40-man zerg can beat down a reinforced door with just their fists quickly enough.

So there’s your counter.

A 40-man zerg is countered by another 40-man zerg. Throwing down a couple ballista during the scrum can have a serious impact but siege needs a zerg to screen it and sweep up when facing an enemy zerg. You simply do not counter a competent 40-man zerg with a 10-man defensive force. Not in any fort, not with any upgrades, not with any siege.

If the “AE only hits 5 people” rule was lifted for WvW, then that changes everything but for now, it takes a zerg to beat a zerg.

Or you could just use the game mechanics (mesmer + necro). This 2 man team + say 1 arrow cart = mass death to stack. (arrow cart not necessary). I’ve included a photo above of 8 vs 30. 6 held them at the gate till the necro and mesmer arrived. Then they just dropped like flies.

The AoE only hits 5 people thing is stupid. Seriously? There’s no reason at all for that to be in the game. As such, your only counter would be mesmer feedback, then mesmer mass invis so a slightly smaller zerg could kill their zerg.

After arguing with an engineer for a while, you begin to realize that he actually enjoys it.

We tired to counter them by doing the same thing with 25 people, our bubble was next to their bubble it was hilarious. We lasted 20 seconds they simply had more people instantly resing downed… So mesmers with necro combo? What does necro do in this situation?

Mesmers use Feedback – it’s that pink dome that reflects projectiles. If they want to stack up , then that keeps them from shooting out.

Necromancers have a lot of nasty ground targeted AoEs that aren’t ranged attacks so they won’t be reflected/absorbed by the guardians. Similarly, Mesmers have Chaos Storm.

Does stability prevent the knockback from Shield of Absorption? If it does, you could run some Axe/Axe warriors – Balanced Stance+Frenzy+Endure Pain and AoE until everything’s dead. Has the benefit of combo with the Mesmer/Necro fields.

has happened to me multiple times.

20 seige should be enough to kill that 40 zerg. Key point is to layer your seige layout. Don’t place all your seige at the same line. Place 5 seige in front, place 5 seige at a distance 1500 behind the first row, do the same for the next 5 seige.

Each row of 5 seige overlap each other in terms of firing range. While the 40 zerg are pre-occupied with hitting the first layer of seige, the other seige behind will take them out. With 20 seige placed in 4 rows, 40 strong zerg should be downed without much problem.

The only vulnerability in this strategy is when the enemy zerg detected this layer seige setup and rush to take out the last line of seige first. But normally players don’t look beyond 2 layers of seige.
