I haven’t seen any rule about roleplayers on servers yet but its becoming quite an issue in WvW on Piken Square, they often enter WvW in a large group and start roleplaying then when a pvp guild wants to join they cant due to the borderlands being full by people effectively doing nothing for the game.

I don’t hate roleplayers but its getting fraustrating when you can’t play with your pvp friends because someone who is at the starting zone doing nothing and just talking and wasting a slot…

Arena net is this working as it should?

Ummm…how are they roleplaying?

Are they just roleplaying as they actually play WvW? If so, then I don’t see a problem.

If they are just goofing off at their spawn though, then I could see an issue.

They stand in the starting zone just talking in character.
Sometimes you see the walking around the zone talking, but most often they stand in a keep,talking while its under siege and don’t do anything.

Never seen em, please give pictures. As a matter of fact never seen a group of more than 2-3 people afk in any of the borderlands.

On a side note it is good to have 1-2-3-4-5 people staying in keeps to give early warnnings (won`t menton that the call a zerg a group of 20)

Defending Stonemist and 12 of them were walking round the perimeter looking for one of their companions lost cats totally oblivious to the battle.

LOL well if that is the case, then they should leave. They can go to WvW to roleplay WvW, or they can roleplay whatever else they want anywhere else.

I’m also pretty sure, they are trolling you guys.

Omfg so funny and sad at the same time…. Well nothing we can do about it or Anet. They play how they like.

Please make this complaint specific to the one guild (I’m assuming it’s a single guild) doing this. Don’t tar all RPers with that brush. the vast, vast majority of RPers would never do this.

I’m sorry but I am completely dying reading this haha. Are they doing it in /say? I’d love to see some video footage of this!

p.s. I’d suggest a server transfer…

What self respecting role player would go to a warzone, ignore said warzone, and look for a lost cat?

Please show some screen shots to prove this. I have never seen anyone standing around RPing in WvW and I don’t think anyone would do this.

If they were not taking up precious queue slots in WvWvW, then doing nothing towards WvWvW I don’t think anyone would mind. If it were my server I would be blacklisting them.

Bwahahaaa, after all these years of being griefed finally RP’ers can get their revenge on PvP’ers!

More seriously, I’ll wager most RP’ers in WvWvW are as serious about PvP as anyone else in there. I’d be surprised if they stayed there doing nothing for long.

Sounds like SCUM (JUDGE nowadays). Something in their style. Though if thats them, they are likely better pvpers than people complaining about them.

But doing nothing, for even a little bit, can be a hindrance.

That’s assuming this story is true. The vast, vast majority of RP’ers will either participate fully in PvP if they want to join in, and know to set their RP aside for a moment; and those who don’t want to PvP simply won’t.

I am just amused that after so long we finally have PvP’ers complaining that RP’ers are griefing, rather than the other way around :P

Looking for a lost cat? Probably some humans wondering where that Charr warband went…

Here is some proof of it happening, they block you as well if you ask them to leave and make space for players who will do something for the battle.

As you can see Stonemist was under siege and we was losing Durious and yet they stood there roleplaying.

Eventually we lost both of these places and they still stood there, eventually causing more roleplay.

I feel sorry for Piken Square now o.O Can you RP them into action perhaps?

This is hilarious.

So far on Tarnished Coast (unofficial NA RP server) we have RP WvW guilds, rather than RP guilds in WvW. Most of our best leaders are light role-players when commanding, which is fun and good for world cohesion.

We did have one guild (great people) who did start RP’ing during a crucial fight (walking a Yak, after the escort event was cut), but there was a discussion and I think they realized the impact they were having on others.

My suggestion would be to have your most diplomatic person talk to them, and point out the effect they are having on the enjoyment of others. Tell them they don’t have to stop RP’ing, just change how they do it when in WvW.

I only RP in WvW if it’s relevant – like barking out commands and orders in an effort to get things moving.

I also like to roleplay in WvW.

Why just a few minutes ago I roleplayed embedding my sword in someones face … much fun was had.

We’ve gone up against Piken a couple of times and it’s quite sad that’s happening. They have some pretty decent players and i’ve been in some good fights against them but that’s usually later in the evening.

During the day we’re pretty much sat around waiting for something to happen.

I have screens of guilds throwing dance parties in WvW, so i have no reason to to believe that some people knowing screw their server by locking up ques. Ill post screens when i get home in about an hour if you really want to see them.

So they play the game like they want it to play, dooing what is fun to them? Nobody is forcing you to roleplay so don’t tell other people how to play, it’s not their fault that anet has decided not to have 3 official rp-servers in a seperate WvW. Also it has been known for a very long time that piken square is the unofficial rp-server, so if you don’t like it then transfer to another server, it’s still for free.

The situation on piken square will even get worse, trust me when i say that roleplayers know exactly how to turn an unofficial rp-server into a server only for rp’ers, so if they want to kitten off other people from that server they can easily do that even without official rp-rules.

But I knew before GW2 was released Piken Sqaure was a RP server (unoffical) !
Nothing you can do to prevent this other then quickly migrating to another server ^^

Everyone saying you can’t do anything about it: you’re clueless. It’s an UNofficial RP server. ArenaNet won’t protect their trollingkitten Just report them for griefing and they’ll be soon gone.

RP is not griefing, start reporting players for dooing RP and anet will bann you for missusing the system. If you want to bann people from WvW because they are dooing RP there then you can also start banning bad players, anybody who doesn’t listen to the selfproclaimed high marshall and follows the tactic.

There are a lot of servers for GW2, only piken square has been proclaimed as an unoficial rp-server and it’s full of rpers, if you don’t like it just switch the server, you won’t be able to make the majority of a server move away or have a good time there if you don’t care about RP.

There’s a difference between RPing and just downright griefing. They’re doing the latter by not fighting or running for supplies while the enemy is ramming the walls. If, like the OP claims, they’re really just walking around and talking in character for a long period of time, they will likely get banned and rightfully so.

There’s a time and place to RP and this isn’t the time.

GW2 is a mmorpg, right? A mmo is about what people make out of the system, there is no “do it this way or don’t do it”. If people want to chase a cat in WvW then it’s their right to do so, i’m sure they are not trying to bann you out of WvW because you are fighting people around them while there is a cat that has to be rescued.

If A-net doesn’t want WvW to be a rp-zone then they have to clarify it, but if they do that then the term mmorpg doesn’t fit for GW2, neither the mmo which stands for “here is a world, do whatever kitten you like in it if the game mechanics allow it” nor the rpg “role playing game”.

Just to clarify it, the whole discussion here will not have any consensus, you can’t force people to do something your way and neither can they force you to do it their way, the fault is only on a-net’s side for not launching an official rp-server.
The only thing that people can do is not to play on piken-square if they don’t want to do RP or want a WvW where it is about winning, there are around 27 eu-servers i think that aren’t any kind of “unofficial rp-server”, it’s only piken square.

just switch servers OP; its better to have all the rpers in one server than spread across many, ruining WvW for everyone

I’ve never seen RPers yet in WvW on Piken Square.

There’s something that I have seen multiple times though, that’s a lot worse than five people roleplaying instead of fighting for the server. Like fifty people instead of five taking up precious slots. I’m sure most of you have heard of this event. It’s commonly known as The Grub.

If you’re server is on the south eastern side (aka the Grub side), you’re gonna have a bad time. When the grub spawns you’re going to lose two towers and two supply camps on average.

If roleplayers were to get banned for griefing/not-fighting, please ban all players who kill the grub. That might rid us of those queues as well.

i saw some roleplayers from ioj walk up to a keep owned by sos and ask for some sugar…..

I am on Piken too and I haven’t experienced this issue so far. I’d even argue they (RPers) invest as much time in conquering and holding towers than any other player. RPers can be pretty good PvPers too. If they want to RP in a tower, let them, it is probably the best defended objective on the map.

It’s usualy 3 hits = dead in LARP, however those russian guys seem to be fighting till they are seriously injured or exhausted ^^
