Ping Test Vs. In Game Ping
Sorry(not really) for my bad English.
Run the diag client for a traceroute.

It’s logical that you have a much higher ping towards a server based in the US if you are living in EU.
I’m from the EU playing on Desolation, I had some weird rubberbanding and checked my ping, it spiked @ around 300ms at times and I really did feel it.
Other times, especially in big EB fights, afaik my in-game ping is around 100 or so.
Plays completely opposite professions to his main Teef.
(edited by CrimsonNeonite.1048)
Japan gets 160 to 220ms
SEA gets 180 to 270ms
India gets SEA rates
Australia is 150+
All when connecting to NA without VPN/WTFast
So if you see 300ms in EU, I would say its client side/your ISP
Australia here. Normal ping for me is always around 250-280 ping, but yeah… Have felt lag spikes while playing.. And nope 100% not my internet as everything else runs smoothly except for gw2 at times.
I get 350 on average from australia, on good days I may see 250, but that rarely happens
BTW, the ping number we show in the client on the options screen is probably different than you see in other games. We should name it something different. Traditionally the ping time is the time it takes for a packet to get to a server and back. In our case, it is the time to get to the server, get processed by the game map you are in, and then sent back. So our misnamed “ping” is much more variable than most ping numbers because it includes game processing time.
reason you see different numbers from a dev above.
Run the diag client for a traceroute.

Yes I know and understand this, but not this http://imgur.com/SH5XByO
I think I did not explain myself all that well so I am going to try again.
At 11:00 AM my TZ GMT+1 I have 200 ms (+/-) ping with all the processing time, no lag spikes and can play WvW with no problems.
Hours go by and the ‘in game’ ping gets higher to the point that I can not play the game in the NA servers.
I been calling my ISP and the only thing they tell me is that it is all Ok. I will call again now and explain I have done this test and see what they tell me. Will let you know what they tell me is case someone is interested ^^
Edit:
I just finish a call to my ISP and they tell me the same again, it is all good on his part.
Even when I try to tell them the IPs where I lose the data they tell me they can not look at it and that it depends on the number of players playing the game.
Any ideas on what to do next? change ISP is the only option left?
Edit2:
I’m not sure if this post should be moved to any other part of the forums… posted it here on the first place because all I do on my NA account is play WvW.

Please be aware that the in-game ping is a TCP measuring tool which includes the time it takes for SYN-ACK handshakes plus any server processing time to handle the network connections. Ping and traceroute use UDP. They will always show a lower ping time than the in-game ping. You can use Network Resource Monitor on Windows to show TCP connection times similar to the in-game ping.

Playing from Japan on a 50/50 hikari fiber connection, I was having bad issues with lag. I subscribed to a VPN service and improved my ping depending on which server I connected to. Basically rerouting my internet traffic to a more optimal path thru the internet. Ping went from about 250+ down to about 180.
