So, there is a guy on our server, who is tagging up regularly. He mostly closes his squad but I managed to join it once. Its mostly joined by about about seven accounts, most of them seemed to be quite new, with names like dsfsldfhsjhs (example) and about 50 achievement points, staying on different maps. He then runs up to the upper right corner of desert borderlands, where continuously an opponent runs towards him with autorun, he kills him, he comes back, he kills him and so on.

So this is a really obvious attempt of abusing the reward track/pip system. I reported that guy quite a few times but nothing happened so far. Please look into this issue!

At least wvw forums were somewhat funny before pips. Now everyone and their dog is literally complaining about imaginary points………

Edit: Remember: Pips have done absolutely nothing to improve game quality at all, you just get a few more blues and greens for playing wvw. If you stick around for several months you might even get ascendeds!

Lol, such a stupid waste of his time and waste of your time. His greatest offense is trolling you into caring.

I mean look at a month or so ago.
The centaur engie farmers yielded many times more loot and their ‘supposed exploits’ were handed out to the entire community to use. Ur wasting ur time if ur farming wvsw. If he has only x many hours to play each week and has no rank to enable him to get it normally …..then let him abuse the system so he can get the full ticket amount each week! Noone should care.

It it bothers you so much, go play the game. And by that, I mean go kill the “autorun” guy before he does.

…..but that would make sense.

Nice investigation /s. Since when do WvW’er care about what other are doing? Oh right, since PvE’er flood the game mode.

So what kind of percentage gain on the whole is the commander tick worth? Instead of having to spend 40 hours AFKing WvW he only have to spend 35 hour AFKing?

Many of us are seeing abuses that are being ignored in WvW.

Anet has shown it doesn’t care by allowing anyone to stand at spawn, keep or tower for HOURS which scales the maps and destroys the integrity of the intended ‘reward for doing’ mechanic.

I care. Because we’ve seen botting before early on in WvW, like entire zergs of bots escorting yaks so Anet nerfed the karma and xp being granted for escorting yaks to the point where real players didn’t escort anymore.

Bots are illegal and should be banned from the game, I don’t think anyone is gonna argue with that.

However players half-afking are just using the system to get the most of it, but aren’t doing anything worth “banning”. They still refresh their participation every so often.

Oh when we had this issue back in the ol’ 2012, we used to spam right click report bot on you afk’ers.

You all were booted to character select. It was glorious. And it opened up the queue.

Knowing that pretty much everyone pip/reward down after they’re done with their run, including commanders, and knowing you can just be afk bio or discussing about a strategy, reporting someone not moving would be the equivalent of… oh yeah, assuming again. Exactly what you’re doing here.

That being said, yes once people start afking at camp, due to the very nature of how balancing and numbers in wvw work, they should be kicked off the map. You and your other 9 buddies might have a great time optimising rewards, the other people of your faction who are getting steamrolled due to potential number disadvantages are most certainly not.

Oh I’m sure the occasional strategy disscussion or bio break person might get affected. Let’s be honest here though, when 90% of the affected players are afkers, the means justify the end.

Because seriously, I get it people here play pvp and love jumping at each other throats, but that’s really pushing the concept far here.

I was just regaling you on the fact that in the good ol’ days that’s how we dealt with afkers on full queue maps. Mind you, back then, those guys were map spies and not sponges.

Maguuma figured it out .. 30 right click bot reports and the person got booted? Or something like that?

I simply stated that there is no such thing as afking without the use of a bot (which is illegal to use), because the game requires you to refresh your participation. For people who don’t care about participation, they automatically get kicked pretty fast anyway if they’re truly afk.
If people are just taking a small break, whatever the reason, they are within the acceptable boundaries set by Anet and I find people trying to get them kicked laughable. Next thing you know you’ll get kicked for just talking to a merchant for too long.

Now, whether you choose to follow a zerg, do roaming on the other side of the map or mindlessly flip camps nearby, all these scenarios are contributing to the server. Whether some people think it is not ok to wait near a camp to flip it has more to do with elitism than anything in my opinion.

And you’re entitled to your opinion.

AFK heroes are the reason I’d rather the pip system be based off actions taken in the game (capturing, defending, killing, escorting etc) instead of passive things such as outnumbered, wvw rank and to a lesser extent placement in the skirmish.

Yeah, okay, it might encourage karma training slightly more than the current system, but that’s still a better alternative to the issues being illustrated in this thread.

Now this might be a minor anoyance for other players in pve (and even here it has become a more and more visible problem) but in a competative enviroment as wvw it can negatively impact a big part of the active playerbase. So no, the game does not amply protect from people abusing the system. It’s become so bad that even in pve we get constant “is afk farming allowed” threads on a regular basis.

No one is talking about people waiting at camps or doing their own thing. The issue is with players waiting out their contribution ticks and staying semi-afk for multiple minutes in the starting area. With other new pip farming methods finding more and more ways into the game.

If you have to take a break of more than 5 minutes, leave the area and let others cycle through. If you are on a tier 1 server, be prepared to be active as much as you can and finish inventory and merchant management at the end.

I understand it has an impact, however you can reasonably assume that every server has their own “half-afker”, it might not balance out completely, but I’d be very surprised if one server had 10 afkers at time X while their opponent has 0.
It’s from personal experience but I haven’t seen a lot of afkers during prime time either (which is when afkers are the most impactful).

As for PvE, AFK farming is a whole other deal because your pet/minions do the job for you. No participation required, you don’t have to move, very low risk of dying. It is indeed a big issue.

As Kovu said in a previous post, Anet couldn’t have given more incentive for afker to want to afk-grind more. They’ve locked rewards behind quite a lot of weekly hours (other topics discuss this already) that you get whether you’re truly active or not (hence the “working as expected” answering a specific person who never stops saying that )
You will never prevent people from wanting to farm for rewards (nor should you, everyone can play for the reason they choose), so rewarding people for being active is the logical answer to afking.

But I see what you mean.

What they could do is simply reducing the participation debuff/afk time before kick when there’s a queue, since it’s mostly an annoyance during prime time.

As long as they’re controlling each of their characters individually, I don’t see any rules that are be broken. That’s not to say that something shouldn’t be done if it becomes a bigger issue later.

If there’s a map queue and one guy is taking up six or seven spots, that’s not good.

As well, if the names are all garbled it’s likely a power levelling service to later sell off the toons with max value to them. It’s a whole industry unto itself.

Well yes, which is what I was referring in the second part of the post if it becomes an issue. Whether it’s an issue is of course ultimately up to Anet.

So, correct me if I’m wrong, but this kind of stuff only really happens during off peak times right? If that is the case then who really cares?

Mass reporting during a servers main time will take care of this fairly fast.

MMOs have been used this way for years now.

Just kill that autorun dude if it concerns you that much.
