Players completely invisible post-update (Oct 7)

Guild missions say otherwise.
The issue is NOT culling. (afaik) There is something else going on that started a while after the patch.
In WvW literally can’t see anything—started off ok, then progressively has become worse for everyone. On teamspeak it’s a few people trying to call general direction. This is after fighting for five minutes, not some five second delay. WvW servers need to be rolled back to the time of the patch—which i am sure probably can’t be done—in which case I don’t know. This is horrible.
I actually hadn’t encountered the invisibility thing until just after the patch and there were less people on than there was earlier in the day and they all appeared to load just fine

Yep, had the same problem. Prophecy and I could only literally see a floating commander icon, and we would basically wander into what we thought was clear but what was really a death trap. The only things that rendered were pets and projectiles, and the occasional ram.
Our borderlands was very full and the current matchup of JQ/ET/HoD has been nonstop, but it was a little amusing watching a fight between all 3 factions where people were swinging randomly trying to hit something, anything.
Smartass comment about that being how WvW works all the time aside, it wasn’t happening for all our players ,but no amount of graphics settings tweaks or other things like alt tabbing, minimizing, or switching modes worked to fix the rendering issue.
Same problem here. People just aren’t loading for some reason. I can tab target them or see icons, but a lot of models are completely invisible.
This is happening outside of wvw as well. Going up to npc’s even in story mode they are taking like 5 seconds to load. This just started after the patch.
yeah. something got broke in this patch it seems.
Multiple times tonight since patch. found myself being attacked by completely invisible targets. which would NEVER pop in.
I even ressed, and sat and chatted with an ally that I could only see via a green dot on the minimap. and the res icon.
we were completely alone.
It’s terrible, maybe 1 out of 5 enemy players loading. Seemed to get worse the longer I was in WvW. Better roll back whatever the heck messed this up.
Same issue here no one is appearing before patch a few would appear so you could kinda guess how big of a zerg was there now no one is appearing…
Arson, what’s happening now is nothing like it was before. This is new, or a problem taken to a huge extreme. I could see people before in large battles, especially if I sat in the area for a few seconds (5-10 on really big fights in WvW). Now, I don’t friendlies or enemies, at all.
Like others said, this is new and completely different. Team speak has been blowing up since the patch, a ton of people stopped it’s so bad now.
I am also getting more frequent rendering errors after this patch – allies, enemies, and npcs are invisible more often, and staying in the area for a bit doesn’t seem to let them load.

Had to quit playing right now due to this issue. Everyone (including allies) completely invisible to me. Most of our guild was having the same issue to varying degrees too.
Yes please fix this. Kitten trains don’t work well when you can’t see anyone
so if a patch like this can royally screw it up this bad, couldn’t they just do the opposite of what they did and everything would be fixed?
Just trollin here, but seriously im so sick of Invisible armies. and now i cant even see my own kitten teammates. Its now pretty much impossible for someone to lead a zerg that doesn’t have an icon

Earlier I was in WvW, running supply. Suddenly I just started getting afflictions stacked up, and was immediately stunlocked. I died without being able to do anything, even using a stun breaker.
I figured it musta been a player culling problem. But it wasn’t until AFTER I was dead that the 30 man zerg decided it would render on my screen.
Definitely not fun.
Seems worse now.

Just curious, has this improved anyone’s frame rate?
the wvw is unplayable now. was on a small hill hitting enemy, then warrior spinning effect shows up beside me, i downed, without seeing one single enemy, i got a pole struck through my head.
two minutes later when we res back to that place, i had teammates standing right beside me shootting arrows at the enemy, but i could not see them, all i saw were their arrows fly by.
It’s definitely much worse now. Things have gotten to the point where even during tower sieges (what I’d estimate to be about 40 people total) involve nothing but invisible things with red arrows over empty space.
It’s odd, this wasn’t an issue at all during the beta. It didn’t become an issue at all until fairly recently, although I’m hard pressed to remember when exactly. Now it’s getting worse. I’m not liking this trend.
It’s a lot worse now, even friendly players aren’t loading, sometimes, ever. I literally followed the same group around the whole map and never saw anything but necro pets at one point. Also NPCs like Veteran Guards have the same loading issues that enemy players used to (and still, only worse)have.
This happened at the grenth dynamic event, there was only a few players visable but i knew there was 50+ there, there was like 40 enemy bodies on the ground i could see, maybe that was part of the problem. I didn’t have this prob before the patch.
I concur with all of the above, WvW is just about unplayable in its current state. Please do something. Sometime all I see is a floating red targeting symbol.

Yes, I’m noticing this too. What’s really odd is that it didn’t start happening right away for me. I did a bit of PvE, including a few Orr events (specifically, the Melandru’s Temple chain) with close to 100 players, and I didn’t have any problems then; now that I think back on it, though, there were a number of people there complaining that they couldn’t see the chest afterwards, so I wonder if that might have been related.
Then I went into WvW and ran around with a decent-sized group of people—probably 20ish, I’d guess—and got into a few skirmishes without noticing this issue. Then we attacked a tower, and that’s when everything came unraveled. People just started fading away, both friendlies and enemies, and then various objects like siege equipment vanished too. I ended up dying to…something, and then I couldn’t even see the NPCs at the keep where I respawned, so I left WvW at that point.
Logging to another character seemed to fix the issue, but I didn’t stay on long enough to see if it would have come back after a while.
Edit: Sanctum of Rall server, if it matters, and I was in SoR Borderlands when I noticed the problem.

This is incredibly bad at the moment. I’ve never had this problem in WvW before, but now entire fights occur without the enemy rendering at all. All we can do is madly tab target around and spam our basic attacks, hoping to hit something.
It’s happening for our entire guild and it makes WvW completely unenjoyable. Whatever it was it has changed recently, since things were fine before.
It’s not just friendlies and enemies invisible either it seems. We were assaulting Mendon’s yesterday and a guild member was using an invisible siege weapon. The only siege weapon on the screen for our members in Vent and in the area was already being operated. However, there were 3 other people in a line with the gear icon above their heads.
Stuff is definitely messed up since the update …
That which yields is not always weak.
Anet need to stop trying to make the game playable for low end pcs. They have bad frame rate because of their pc. Don’t make us(the one that bought uber hardware to play this game) suffer from it.

Had the same issue last night and decided to log off. Was in a group of at least 30 friendlies and couldn’t see a single one of them. Was able to finish off 3-4 enemies when I saw their downed icon but couldn’t see a single character model.

Yep same and have given up played almost non stop for 2 weeks hoping for some fixes to this invisible #$%#$, waste of time playing Vs player you cant see.

Please introduce an option: Simple characters/models.
When enabled, the player models will differ only by race, profession, sex and weapon
I prefer to see 10 bad-looking characters than the one or zero that looks good …

Unfortunately nothing new. There was another dev posting in a similar thread. Nothing happend. The golden screenshot from there was this:
This is very bad, I can’t see anything when being attacked. We were fighting 20-30 invisible people and we had no idea how far they were pushing into our group until after we were all dead. And even then it took a few minutes before they all rendered.
Same, the smaller battles are fine, but after a certain amount of people it is bad, almost everyone is gone. I even ported back to my base, and the npc’s and everyone was still invisible. I had to log out and back in to see people again.
I am a cynic here. To me this whole reduced player visibility and rendering distances smacks of trying to save costs on servers and bandwidth, in fact most of the changes being implemented in the game appear to be about saving money or making us buy/use the gem shop. When you look at everything going on from that perspective it makes a lot more sense.

lol it’s not even small or large battles.. I was running to a supply camp and seen an enemy pet (not the enemy) so I start pressing my next enemy bind and got him targeted, I kill him without him firing a single shot so I’m pretty sure he never saw me too.. Then right after that when I got in the camp, I could see a green dot on the map.. So I say “i know you’re here but I can’t see you” and the ally says “lol same”…
I did see any enemies for an hour last night. Plus the game seems to be using up a ton of memory now.
It was very interesting to PvP last night when this happened. Im constantly asking my group how many people are chasing. Although it made asssiting that much easier since i never saw anyone attacking me lol.
Maybe they added cloaking device’s in the patch and forgot to add it to patch notes?
You can shut the client down and restart to get it to work for a while again.

Actually played 12 hours before this bug hit me. Then everything turned invisible, including myself (on my screen). Only things I could see was projectiles and pets. AoE, players, and NPCs = totally invisible. This is not culling, only started happening after last patch.
On high pop servers, relogging means a que sometimes.

I can also confirm on the severity of this issue as well. In my case last night, I was mistakenly confused the 3rd enemy team as my ally when we both were targeting at the same tower. By the time I got closed enough for them to start rendering and appearing, it was too late to respond and I got taken down instantaneous. It was an awful and and unjustified way to die, so I had to log out of WvW until this issue is fixed.

yeah, I think this bug is client based, not directly related to the serverside culling.
This one seems to be a rendering issue, possibly vid card related.
To be clear, last nights patch introduced a new and totally different rendering bug. This is not the “only 30 players can be on screen at once, and often those 30 are players on your server behind you, while 50 opposing players are standing right in front of you and not loading” issue.
This new one occurs with out large numbers of players being present. happens to npcs and players. and is persistent. They will never load in.

Might be bug with culling, perhaps they did some adjustments. I mean I was playing fine up until we were having a massive 3 way battle inside SM keep where there was at least a 100 or more players. I did a suicide tornado through an entire zerg of 50+ people for the full duration which leads me to believe they didnt see me either until the end of it lmao.
I also experienced extreme anomalies after last night’s patch. For the first time I was not seeing my own team. Rarely saw an enemy player. This initially occurred in the EB western keep (DB) as all outer and inner gates along with 1 wall were down for an hour or so. All 3 servers were going at it All I could do was look at my mini map and AE. It was a massive, ghost-town zergfest!
But even later I went to more remote areas and still did not see teammates (at all) and again rarely the enemies. If I clicked on the screen occasionally I would target something that was invisible.
I’m really hoping that goes back to normal before tonight. I’ve experienced Culling on a large scale with enemy forces, but this was much much worse since the patch.
Until recently I never had this bug.
Since last Patch I can’t see either friend nor foe in WvW.
Every single player character is completely invisible.
