For the history of my beloved Anvil Rock, we’ve been mocked as always “playing for 2nd place”. I guess we were just ahead of our time because lo and behold 2nd place is the cool race .

T8: GoM vs FC

T7: Hod vs NSP

T6: IoJ vs DR

T5: AR vs BP

T4: SBI vs DC

All closer and much more interesting (some going down to the wire) than the race between 1st and 2nd.

Of course it will be hip when most match ups are such blowouts.

People want fun, fast paced action from WvW. If the dominant server can wake up to fully upgraded everything due to their night time presence for example, it’s just not going to be very attractive for the enemy to try and cap their stuff, because frankly, sieging a T3 bay for 3 hours is not very fun when you see an enemy zerg mow through your paper borderlands in 30 minutes as retaliation.

Welcome to last year. Fighting for 2nd has been the thing to do pretty much since the launch of the game. The expectation is that the two losing teams gang up on the winning team but the reality is 2nd beats down 3rd so that they can’t overtake them. If 3rd overtakes 2nd then they just turn and do the same time.

1st place is basically the role of “spoiler” as they can decide who really keeps second and who gets the royal 2v1 beatdown in 3rd.
