There might be other instances like this but in the borderlands maps (lower right corner) where supply camp is located, players are able to hug the cliff and stay invulnerable while being close to the camp.

Once the zerg/attackers leave, the player can go back and take it but return to the cliff to escape. The player can’t go over the cliff however and the distance between this point of invulnerability and the camp is really small, so they just stay there and camp. I would like to see the invulnerability boon be taken away after they have jumped down from the small cliff.

A: be patient. They can’t flip the camp without coming out of the invulnerable zone. Wait them,out or risk losing the camp.

B: while waiting, build a few ballistas. Nothing says “welcome” like a few bolts to the face.

C: you can do the same thing in the other south camp. Every server has this ability on enemy BLs. If you die because of it, that’s pretty silly …. See A:

What advantage? They can’t flip the camp and if you stay far enough away, they can’t kill you. However, you have the advantage of building siege to wipe them pretty easily if they do stick a toe out.

This exploit is also used by the towers near the defender’s spawning point in BL. We were taking out the east tower and a group from the other server perched themselves on the cliffside. They were close enough to still get the invuln buff that you get around the starting area.
It’s more annoying than it is useful, they couldn’t reach our catas and rams and we still got their tower
I can actually think of ways it could have been utilized more effectively, especially since they were outnumbered.
Again though, more of a nuisance than anything else and I would like to see Anet remove the buff around those areas.

This is extremely poor conduct to use this. It is an exploit and it requires excessive use of manpower to combat it. Should be fixed, good luck with that though.

Sounds like much-ado-about nothing if they can’t actually do anything. Its not like they can step out and do anything to you without coming out of the invincible zone and as for your argument that they can use it to re-cap a camp after you took it and left… then take it and hold it. Don’t complain because someone took something AFTER you left. A perma-stealth thief can do the same thing (waiting around till you leave and taking your camp). It just sounds like your upset because you can still see them. And I wouldn’t say “Kaineng” is using this.. your screen cap shows one person.. Not a big zerg.. And if your mad they are using it, then use it back.

To the Mr. Brains… use them fella. If this is not an exploit or an oversight and it truly is their spawn. Then how come the are invuln only at that section on the base of the cliff and not the entire base of the cliff face? I mean if it really is their spawn then they should be able to get all the way back up that cliff to their main spawn area. But can they? No. These areas were designed to make players weigh the risks of going down these cliffs. It is not meant to be an “You are beating me I am going to run back to this invuln spot” advantage. And also if any thinks this is not an exploit. Here is the definition of an exploit from ANet.
“Anything that gives you an unfair advantage over any player or mob.” Notice in PvE how if you are fighting a mob from an area that they can’t damage you you get “Invulnerable” flashed across your screen after a space of time. That’s because the system registers that you have an unfair advantage. This spot it is exactly the opposite. You are invulnerable yet can still do damage. Hence the advantage is unfair and needs addressed.

Nine times out of ten folks get upset about two or three people parked at this invulnerable spot as they stand there facing a team of 10 or more of the enemy. Patience wears thin and so folks start attacking, foolishly .. and then they get mad when they’re killed.

If I was standing at the base of the cliff and I saw 10 or more angry red guys waiting for me to come out, I think I’d play a waiting game, rather than rush in and get instantly killed.

There are ways to counter this situation, but apparently folks don’t want to listen. Build siege. Be patient. They’ll either port to WP or bring some friends .. then you can have the battle you’ve wanted.

While you’re waiting. I repeat. You can build siege to make your job easier. If that particular camp is crucial to your team’s success, then it’s equally foolish to leave it unattended anyhow.

It’s not like anyone doesn’t know how the mechanics work with this. Running and attempting to kill them is just silly.

And to the poster above me .. the invulnerable zone runs pretty much all along the base of that cliff .. that one spot in the photo above is not the only area. And they can only do damage to you and not get hurt in return if you let them. An exploit is something you cannot counter … where with this issue you can.

How about this scenario:

There are 3 enemies at the invulnerability spot, and 2 of you defending the camp. Skill issues notwithstanding, between 2 of you, you could not snare both of them or even one of them enough to get all 3 of them all the way to 0% health before they could run the 30 in-game meters or so between the “not invulnerable zone” and the “invulnerable spot”, wherein your characters are in direct danger of being killed by invulnerable enemies.

The enemies then heal up completely, and fight you yet again, same sequence, essentially, that you beat them in terms of tactics, except that one invulnerability spot gives them infinite healing/resurrecting capabilities in comparison to yours. I agree this could be argued as “l2p”, but isn’t it obvious how disproportionately advantageous this situation is for the enemy? The question is, is that disproportion valid?

The choices:
a) leave, let them camp the cap and back-cap it once they move on
b) stay there repeating this scenario until you kill one before they reach the spot (which, if the person was killed close enough to it, they can easily be resurrected within the span of a minute given the circumstances) and/or they finally overpower you after who knows how many tries.

Should they get that many tries without consequences?

Do you think it valid that it should be easier to let the enemy capture an objective and return to it later than it should be to simply fight off the enemy in this specific situation?

What was Arenanet’s intention? Doesn’t that invulnerability spot essentially negate the whole point of that area being a cliff? If this was how it’s meant to be, why isn’t it a gently upward sloping hill with 1 hit kill NPCs like their main spawn gate?

“They have to come out sometime.” Yeah, I agree with that. Should they be able to just run back in given the terrain and the circumstances? Does it look like that was even remotely intended?

Obviously the problem is not one of a few feet, but rather attackers can run into the camp, attack it and players there, and then run back to an invincible zone.

It is not the same thing as wayponting back or standing up on the hills. Because from up on the cliffs you can never contest the camp. While with these spots you can freely contest over and over and just run and be invulnerable once defenders show up.

The purpose of the cliffs at both bottom corner camps is clearly to force the attackers to cross a physical threshold they cannot return to once they jump down in order to flag.

No we can’t close this topic.

It is a bug. That is obvious. Not really a high priority bug so it will take a while to maybe not ever getting fixed. Not like you can use it to exploit into a keep champ’s room.

If it was intended, there would have been a ramp back up into spawn from that area.

People would also have known about it as soon as they go around that area with out their server warning them.

Those spots were found by accident then to make sure it wasn’t just a fluke, people started to test and discovered that one tiny spot is a safe spot. If it had been intended, a sign would have been up to tell you about it right away, plus there would be a way back up into your spawn without running around the front or porting.

I speak for my self and no one else. Only fools believe they speak for a majority.

I also feel that it’s a glitch and should be fixed. That area should stay till tip of the hill not down under.
