If Anet did a server merge, I wouldn’t kick and scream about it for too long. With that being said, I do have two specific servers in mind that I would rather not be married to.

Sorrow’s Furnace and… Hmmmmm… Sanctum of Rall?

I’m not sure that I’ve even seen any ET players actually condoning it. The most amicable post that I’ve seen has been from me and my closing comment was basically that I wouldn’t spend too much time kicking and screaming about it. But that’s not to say I still wouldn’t do SOME kicking and screaming.

I’m more referring to past threads where ET did have a significant number of people in favor of the merges.

I guess it will pop-up as one possibility for more balance, till the imbalance issue is resolved in one or the other way.
But during the last year ANet only actively increased imbalance by removing queue for overstacked servers (EotM) and reward further stacking with seasons-rewards for winners. So we will likely see it again and again for a while.

Yeah but it’s just such a bad idea rofl, and more than that it’s a last resort type of idea. Before even discussing such a hugely flawed and ill-conceived thought as merging wvw servers, we should at least discuss less drastic measures such as transfer incentives to lower servers etc…

you guys on et just need to pony up for transfer fees. they’re not going to merge servers… as someone who plays on both ends of na, there’s often more going on in t7/8 na than t1, at least on jq/ar. eu still has stuff going on when i first log on after work as well, but merging lower servers would be a stupid move for them as they’ve repeatedly said.

people’s perception of “low pop” or bronze league servers is a misconception. lower tiers are just full with lots of folks that might not be as coordinated across the server as in higher tiers (more roamer centric).

then there’s ET who just can’t get get it together 4 hours after reset for some reason that none of the rest of us will ever understand… maybe we need to start fund to help displace the impoverished children of eredon terrace so we can stop reading posts like these on the forums :P

ET would be in better shape today if a month and a half ago some guild hadn’t moved down there, provided numbers and support, recruited some of their WvW people, and then moved out en masse.

That is a pure vinegar-smelling bag move right there.

Even if some people from ET think merge servers can be good due to the current state of the server, I am pretty sure the majority is against it.

The fact is the threads about low population and server merges were not created by low tier server players. It is manly made by high tier servers players using lower tiers as a escape goat to fix their coverage problem.

Today T2 (EU) looks population wise like t7 was in my imagination a year ago. And decline continues.

T2 a year ago was fun, T2 nowadays is empty desolation with a map-jumper Zerg PvDing 80% of the time. I was just on a borderland for an hour. During that time on the map, I meet 1 friendly and 4 enemy player with a golem and in the map chat not 1 line.

That’s boring. The size of the WvW area needs more people or less area to reach again a concentration of people where fights occur in my opinion.

There are a bunch of options of course and server merge is only one of them. Others are to shutdown of the 3 borderlands. Why are there 4 maps at times where no team is able to fill a single map? Replacing servers (which I never liked) and which are totally meaningless in the age of mega-servers by something meaningful, e.g guild alliances (with an alliance wide chat) with a max size for more balance.

My vision of good WvW would be that all servers in a league would be balanced enough to really play matches against each other, I.e. where you have close matches full of suspense.

May be with 2 leagues with different size restrictions that never play against each other, if small scale is really a need. ( I don’t know, I don’t have such a need,there was always small scale in T2 as well and the forum statements from low tier servers are contradictory in that respect. Some say yes, some say they blob as much as they can as well.)

In any league I would like a mechanic that punishes zone-blobs in a way that the most effective blob size is 40.

Full maps are for PvP. WvW has more variety and, if you’re not happy with the concentration of people in your particular tier, feel free to buy some gems and move upward.

If you’re already in the highest tier and you’re not happy with the concentration of people, sadface.

Merging servers… has anyone looked at EOTM? That faceless karma train? Why would anyone care for defending when they’re on a generic team? Server already means nothing in pve so…

Merging servers only fixes the symptoms. As we can see from EOTM, if the content is trash, the gameplay will remain trash no matter how many people you put into it. WvW is losing numbers due to stale content, poor balance, and lack of developer concern. Oh, and all that blobbing harder. Let’s use numbers to solve all our problems and hope engaging gameplay solves all our problems.

They will merge servers someday, but that’s not going to change a dead game mode.

Incentives to transfer to low-pop servers(relative to wvw) are needed. Dis-incentives to transfer to high-pop servers would help. A block on transfer to T1 servers would help. Giving the RP’ers an official server of their own, without wvw access, would be nice. At least one server exclusive city would be good for community development.

Mergers are not needed, and for me at least, not desirable. If it happened, it should be only combining bronze and silver. for example: ET would combine with CD, FC with YB etc. by current standings.

I can afford the transfer fees, I have no interest in transferring (I’ve been asked by departing players to join them), and I don’t want ANet to merge servers. And given everything I see and hear on the server, I doubt many players on ET want ANet to merge servers on them. So please stop attributing the opinions of a few players to the whole server.

Four hours after reset is when (a) the NA Eastern Time people who do more than play GW2 all weekend start going to bed (which ET seems to have a lot of, judging by what I see in map chat and hear in TeamSpeak), (b) the NA Pacific Time people are in the middle of their prime (which other servers have a lot of), and ( c) the other servers start hitting ET simultaneously with zergs instead of hitting each other and fighting over Eternal Battlegrounds because the reward system rewards hitting the weakest opponent rather than the strongest opponent. Personally, last night I had as much fun dealing with the tag-team invasion of our home BL a few hours after reset as I had romping all over FCs BL with our zerg earlier in the night.

Lol ok how about they offer free transfers out of the lower servers. Then we could see who really wants to stay (I’m guessing it will be the vocal minority plaguing this thread).

Merging servers is not the answer. it only delays the inevitable. people leaving game.

Edge of the mist is more fun, better rewards than wvw. I do it more often now than fight for my server.
The server with dominate numbers gets buffs to make them more dominate.
Zoom hacking siege makes siege pointless as a defense. favors attackers with numbers.
Karma training much more profitable than defending.
Anet has been hard at work destroying wvw.

I was looking in my history of posts the other week (not over this) and I see how many different threads on the exact same subject I’ve posted in, and I see that I tried to make the exact same point in an exciting new way. But the other people who repeat “Melt bronze servers into ____” never return the courtesy.

And from all of those, I only got demerits once! I’m kind of impressed with myself (generally, not just over this). nods

That’s exactly the point… People would have to choose between move to other servers or wait in the queues.

And all that people moving would be prime time players. That would do jack about the coverage problem.

Stacked servers with people that want to play WvW would have to redistribute population to other servers.

So instead of stacking specific servers, population gets averaged out somewhat.

It also means that blobing doesn’t remain the be all and end all of things. There’s EotM for people that demand only that.

i think server merge is not too far in the future since they already mention about cross-server guild upgrades. guild can after the update move freely from server to server without the worry of losing upgrades when moving to a new server.

cross-server guild is the first step towards the server merge.

Anyway, as it says the other topic: Don’t bother merging servers, it won’t fix any lack of coverage, will only create headache for NA prime time players.

High rank servers have, small, but it is a fact they do, have queues still. Why people want to stack servers and have 2h queue again is beyond me. The 2h you spend sitting to play WvW, if you play on a low pop server, is way less compared the time you will take to find a good fight. I’d rather play on a low pop server and know I can go to WvW any time I want than wait 2h to be able to play.
