Poll: You see a 1v1 fight, what do you do?
Mute TS because two fanatic sides begin a civil war. Lets see how long this threat exists until the bickering about Pixels escalates
If its clearly a duel and the red name is not a dork i will leave them. If the red name is a jack@ss or just randomly attacked somebody, i will go for the lootbah

Under the assumption I’ve never seen the enemy, it also depends on the placement of where the fight is occurring, what the score is like, and even things like if the player has been active in map chat reporting enemy movements, defending objectives, etc. The duelists rarely have much to say, and the ones who talk tactics typically aren’t interested in dueling.
Northeast SMC far from the walls is dueling grounds. Rarely have I seen actual sall-scale combat happen here without people pushing towards OW or red keep or back towards smc/durios. Same goes with the recessed area far from smc on the south side.
Anywhere else? Fair game. I recommend most players intent on dueling actually fight behind bravost in the large flat area there. It’s explicitly out of the way to a point where there will not be passers-by from any server for really any reason.
Typically I’ll honor the 1v1 – even if not a deliberate duel – but stay close enough to engage if necessary. If the enemy tries to spike or keeps attacking a downed ally, I’ll interject and kill them. Likewise, I won’t get involved if the enemy goes down and my ally is at good enough health to stomp/finish.
And typically, even in questionable situations where I engage, I let allies take the stomp/finish. If it was a duel I just ruined, the opponent gets the chance to res at my ally’s designation.

Usually I try not to interfere if it’s clearly a duel.
Deep in me I want to jump in and try to kill the enemy, while the ally curses at my scrubbiness.

Pretty much this. If it’s a 1v1 and it looks like my server mate is losing I’ll stick around to watch to make sure the guy doesn’t go for the stomp. If he tries to stomp I’ll kill him. But if the red name is someone I recognize and he’s an kitten I’ll probably just kill him.
If you approach and make yourself visible to the enemy without actually getting involved, you can see their reaction, if they don’t react to you, they are clearly dueling, so I don’t get involved.
Honesty is not insulting, stupidity is.
>Class Balance is a Joke<
Assuming it is a duel in a well defined/known duelling location I leave them alone. If they’re duelling some where that is not known for duelling I may jump in just depends.
I typically stay and watch, going into tonic form to not scare the enemy off. Buuut occasionally I’ll intervene based on context. If for example I see my ally is like, a staff ele? I’m going to assume that’s not a duel since so few eles would try to duel with a staff. Or I’ll help if the enemy keeps attacking after downed, ect. I usually just stick around in case another red name tries to join. I’m willing to let my ally go down in a 1v1 since they aren’t running, but not an outnumbered fight.
Depends on the situation/involved players, my mood and what i wanted to do originally when i came across the fight.
Usually i will
- stay and watch and eventually try to prevent a stomp, if my ally loses the fight.
- walk past if the fight looks in favour of my ally (or at least not too bad for him) or if i’m too busy or bored to wait for the end of the fight (i have to admit, i care less about players i don’t know)
- help my ally if he cleary doesn’t want to fight back and has no chance of winning (and wasn’t outnumbering the enemy). If he starts fighting then and the enemy disengages from the 2vs1, i’ll let him go. If my ally decides to chase, he has to do it on his own. I’m not baby-sitting anybody.
If it’s red, it’s dead.
If it’s just me walking by, I’ll usually leave them to fight 1v1, whether it is a duel or not. Players can’t get better at playing their class if they are always requiring help from someone else.
The only exceptions I make is if the enemy player poses a threat to an important objective, or if I am running with a blob, who will end up just killing the enemy player anyway.
If you approach and make yourself visible to the enemy without actually getting involved, you can see their reaction, if they don’t react to you, they are clearly dueling, so I don’t get involved.

If it is just a 1v1 with no one around I will usually just keep going

10 times out of 10 I command the group following me to leave duelers and roamers alone, no honor in running them over.
If they try to eat at my backline at all though, we turn and destroy.
Once i went into a duel and just starting jumping around on top of them while they we’re fighting, no dmg just jumping with my huge kitten charr. I think someone grabbed my tail though.
Most players will leave duelers alone but there are always the kittens.

The same can be said when those duelers that you left alone stop dueling and jump you later on with 5 of their buddies..
I usually leave everyone that seems to be in a fair fight alone but I never get the same back ever. I honestly do not know why I do it but to me its more of a respect kind of thing. I’ve pasted duelers that were dueling and they stopped dueling to jump me.
I don’t even kill afkers.. If I hit someone and they just stand there I move on.. I want a good fight not an easy kill yet most see me and jump me instead of giving me a good fight lol

as i said there are always the a holes. most duelers from what i’ve seen don’t do that unless they are attacked. but maybe that’s just the servers? but it’s also some guilds are just like that too. some guilds are just trolls and salty about god knows what and will try to ruin anything and everything for a certain server. its sad but when you get f2p players and tweens playing this game that kind of thing happens.

I had to look up duel, apparently it’s an archaic form of fighting that ended a week ago.

I hear you and from what I’ve seen a lot of duelers are gankers in disguise that got owned and now want to duel instead because they don’t want to get stomped
If its an obvious duel with others watching I will walk past. Any other time I will attack just like the enemy would and has done to me countless times. It is WvW and not a private spvp or guild arena after all. If the guy on my server says to back off though I will stop the attack.
Observe and determine if it is a duel
if duel move on; maybe watch
if not duel engage
i would ask if he is dueling the opponent or not. If so i leave them be or watch from a far (so i dont get in combat by accident and start giving my ally a buff)
I would also prevent the enemy of stomping my ally if they are dueling. Regardless of me standing there and the ability to rezz him up, a duel never uses finishers.
If it looks like a duel going awry (enemy going for stomp) I may intervene depending on display of sportsmanship (if ally has been a good sport and enemy a poor one). If I stay to watch I make sure any passive/aoe effects (plague signet, healing mist etc) are off.
If a second enemy comes in to attack my allied player, I will join for a 2v2.
Even if it isn’t a duel, 1v1s are the core of players learning to play and interrupting that is a lazy, loot-driven playstyle I don’t find as fun as the challenge of really learning how to fight and fighting an opponent equally. I would want others to let me use my own power 1v1, so I extend the same courtesy to others. If one can’t win a 1v1 I think losing and reflecting on how to improve is part of what keeps the game engaging.
Non of them xd
I will stop to see the duel without involving myself, and only engage if the enemy is trying to stomp my ally, or another enemy joins and they 2vs1 my ally.
You can easily see if it’s an arranged duel when one of both are downed.
i7 5775c @ 4.1GHz – 12GB RAM @ 2400MHz – RX 480 @ 1390/2140MHz
I usually stop and watch for a few before moving on.
In my experience most players don’t interrupt duels.
However if it’s two enemy players dueling… I’m usually tempted to jump in and kill them both, assuming no one else is around.
If it’s red, it’s dead.
My opinion is the same as this person’s opinion.

Yes – PVP =>
edit: But seriously, I’ve been killed so many times from disrespectful duelers that I have no feelings for them. It goes both ways.
My answer: 4. Observe the fight. If you ally loses you let him/her die and engage the enemy after.
This may sound a bit stupid and it has actually gotten me and many of my allies killed, but: My personal code of honor prevents me from +1:ing a fight.
Then again if I see ally who clearly doesnt want to fight just running away and not trying to fight I would step in signalling “I am your opponent!” to the enemy.
Also if I am fighting 1v1 and an ally steps in I most likely step out of the fight and let my ally handle the battle. If +1 enemy steps in I either try to defeat them 1v2 or run away fast as possible depending on my mood.
the number of time I have had this….
I see a group of people standing, some on one side , some on the other. Some fighting in the middle. clearly a duelling situation.
I run around, off to do my own thing. knowing they are “duelling” and should not bother me.
But.. 2 that were standing watching pull off and gank me. so yeah. I have had it with duellers. You want to do that, take it to SPvP or your guild hall.
Thirty four times bitten, thirty fifth time shy. I know everyone is different and there are some “honourable” duellers out there. But a few have given you guys a really bad rep.
If its red, I don’t trust it at all. NPC included, you gimpy trolling Yaks that are shadow stepping 50 meters back.
that said, if it still looks like a legitimate duel, I’ll try not to mess it up. but by Dwayna, if they jump me, I’ll be back to get them. or call in support.
I would usually let the duel continue and not interfere. After seeing some duelers from my own team run pass while I’m in battle and out numbered .. I have changed my tune to “If it’s red.. it’s dead”.
Step one for me is always to walk into clear sight.
Step two is variable depending on a huge amount of factors including the result of step one.
I can not answer a poll with answers more restrictive than “my” possible outcomes.

Do you suggest I should add more possibilities next time I make a poll? Usually I try to keep things simple and force people to make a choice that reflects the thing that they do most often.
How many choices should there be in one poll? Or maybe I should make a possibility to say “other – please explain in comments”… Then again I don’t want to do that since that way the poll itself becomes meaningless if too many players vote other.
Or maybe I should add a statement that “if the poll choices are too limited choose the option that best reflects how you dealt with the situation last time it happenent”
Oh I know the answer to this:
1. Equip llama stomp
2. Wait for the dueler on the hostile server to go down
3. Double-cast Mass Invisibility
4. Stomp them
5. Throw a flame ram on them
The game mode is called WvW massive scale PVP not street fighter 1v1 tourney !
I will always kill the enemy without mercy or regard for whatever he may think he is entitled to. They can kitten and moan all they want but if they truly wanted to 1v1 there is a mutually agreed upon map for that sort of thing plus gvg, it is called obsidian sanctum.
Go there or suffer the consequences, period.

The above is likely your best answer as is considering the many people who like myself, do not react the same way everytime.
IE
I see a JQ Mithril rank Dragonhunter vs a non ranked ranger…. I react in X manner in Y circumstances.
I see a “invented server” Dragon Hunter vs a maguuman Ranger…. I react in Y manner in X circumstances.
I have played somewhere between 5k and 10k hrs in WvWvW and the only certainty I can state upon my arriving on the scene of 2 people fighting is as follows;
I may do something, if I die doing it I will continue to play WvWvW.
ofc i would bust out my birthday blaster and shoot some cakes at them. see how they like it when all that tasty cake is just sitting there, all unguarded and vulnerable.
If I have doubts, and I’m not in danger, I can try to ask if it’s a duel. If I still have any doubts (because they do not answer or whatever) I attack.
I don’t have a problem with duelers and if I see them I leave them alone. More game modes are good for the game.
Throw a few buffs or debuffs, some warning shots… See what happens.
If they both split its a duel, move on or stop and watch it…
If they keep going I keep a watch to make sure my teammate can handle it…
If the opponent tries to run and my teammate chase… The game is on!
you have no excuse, go duel in a guild hall or obsidian sanctum
Stay and watch, try to get duel in afterwards.
If enemy downs ally, I go to help.
If enemy goes to stomp ally, I use disrupts then kill them (they have stuff on CD so easy kill/gank + low health pool already)
If enemy engages 1v1, I gank that person and stomp them.
If Oakheart gets in way, I leash away from fight + kill.
MOST IMPORTANTLY: Use tonic.
….. And Elementalist.
If it’s red, it’s dead.
Pls go back to pve.
I’d usually steer well clear but in all honesty I can’t say I’ve seen more than a couple of clear 1v1 fights in the last year. Used to be more a couple of years back but wherever people duel these days it doesn’t seem to be anywhere I go.
Depends on my mood, either tell my Blob in TS:
“Everyone only one hit to maximize our bag outcome”
or
“Ignore them, more baggies waiting at XYZ”
(edited by Dayra.7405)
When they’re actually dueling – I leave them alone, I’m not that lootbag-obsessed and usually have better things to do.
When it’s some ganker jumping on my teammate who was obviously busy doing something else – I show no mercy
Plays every class though :>
The Dynasty Warriors [DW] – Far Shiverpeaks
If you see a staff ele being attacked by the enemy, it’s not a duel- rescue me!
Generally I ignore them unless I recognise them as gankers and I’m on my mesmer- turns out they ain’t so good without their 2/3 buddies:-)
I would deffenetly choose 3
kick their kitten n tell my friend to quit kittening around, we have kitten to cap!
