Poll flooding is no solution in the long term
maroity of ppl dont care about long term. ppl will jump ship to play new mmo, what matters is now.
OP, I disagree with most of what you said, the only thing you are correct about is that it changes nothing for the already overstacked servers. The caps issue which you brought up, is likewise, exclusive to those. Rest of us, even when we do hit queues at prime time or weekends, the ques are usually within 5-10 min range, hence largely inconsequential. And that is not every day, most days we do not get ques, on any maps and any timezone.
The server links are not supposed to be a complete solution, but just a part of it. There is a lot of room for further improvement of course which is being worked on. Don’t forget the other big change that is still coming to the scoring system. Once it is no longer necessary to overstack a server to win, things will take on a whole new meaning, and lets face it, if you have been around WVW for any longer period of time then you know that nothing causes more people to leave a server then consistant losses for wide plethora of reasons.
If it were up to me, I would perma lock all the overstacked servers without exception, no ifs ands or buts, until they come down considerably.
The links brought a lot of life back to the game mode, yes it will tone down considerably, but its a hell of a lot better then it was.
Balance and power creep are gamewide issues, not just WVW and originate from HOT. The obvious solution would be to tone down across the board all damage and offensive abilities. But then they would have to redo the entire HOT content, so it may be better to instead bring up the effectiveness of the base defensive stats, such as toughness, vitality, healing, and tone down a little bit all the passive bonusses and passive procs, so there is not as much need for redoing of all the otehr content.
The polls themselves are a huge step in the right direction, before there werent any, and look what it got us, DBL, EOTM, horrid stab change, etc. Even if a large proportion of players doesn’t vote, a sample is vote is still better then not having any feedback at all.
And you most definetly do not represent most players, just remember, not long ago we had a poll about work priorities in WVW, and scoring won overwhelmingly over balance, by very, very far. Personally I am glad it did. So no, not everyone feels like you do, in fact, based on that poll I can say you are in the great minority in thinking that class / profession balance is the most important issue.
At the same time, remember they specifically stated that all the issues will be worked on, just some will come later, while others sooner. And this is good. Your main issue, class balance, will be addressed, just not anytime soon.
Also, if all the clicking etc. to actually partake in the polls bothers you so much, then just don’t do it. Its that simple.
The polls are great, we had zero communication from the devs for a long, long time, and now finally its on par and in many cases surpasses what is being done in other games in the genre.
Of course your assessment is correct, flooding the system with polls is not going to be the long term solution. As there is more saturation in the MMO market each week that goes by Arena-net is going to have more competition. The competitors have the advantage of watching what goes on here and adapting their strategy accordingly too. However, communication is pretty awesome and certainly more welcome than silence.
I’ve seen Anet being much more engaged and also willing to make changes to the system based on our feedback. Will it be enough for us as players? That is an individual decision.

Wvw queues due to linking has basically only affected BG hard, everyone else has little to no queues every night but reset.
I look at linking as a temporary solution, until population shrinks to the point of hard merges, or by a miracle go back up due to wvw changes in the future.
I think you’ve gone overboard on the polls. They conduct them one per week, they have been important questions that should have community, at the end of the day we the players will be experiencing those changes the most. They spent 3 years for the most part ignoring our input in wvw direction and fell hard on the dbl map, it’s good to get our feedback for future development, they should have went with 2/1 bl change though without a poll.
As for profession balance that’s in the hands of spvp at the moment. Wvw is under pve rules, watch the complaints from pve players every time a change is made in spvp. Not much the wvw team can do about that.

Therein lies the problem. ANET can poll and cater to today’s players just like EotM and DBL were designed to cater to a certain segment of the population or fill a certain need but by the time those changes go live a good chunk of the players who wanted them have moved on or the reasons they were a good idea at the time are no longer relevant. I wish there were still devs left who had their own vision of what they wanted WvW to be, even if it wasn’t always something I agreed with at least I understood their motivations. World linking is a stop gap fix that by leaning on like a crutch is going to cost you some pain elsewhere and could exacerbate unforeseen problems when the real fixes get in game.

feels good tho.
They’re asking for our feedback, which in the long term is in fact a solution.
Yes, there is some class balancing that needs to take place, but that is an issue with the game over all – not just WvW. If I could vote for them to balance condition damage in line with power and leave WvW alone all together – I would vote for them to balance condition damage. But its different teams for different issues to resolved.
The WvW guys are doing a good job, I hope they continue listening to their customers and I REALLY hope they give us a chance to vote out DBL so that it never comes back.

Higher base defensive stats reminds me on PvP season1 …= bunker wars
The main issue about HOT is skill-spamming : mass boons, cc’s, heal, … etc.
Necro got Stun ulti, mesmer graviti well, guard got caves, Thief those interrupt instant finisher, … warrior headbut(stun), … .
+ giving them much lower cooldowns or simpli aoe effect was the first fault.
+ added many skills granting stability, invulnurability’s, blocks, Resistance, boon corruption, condi cleanse/transfer… ruined the wise usage of conditions in any part of the game.
—> u cant really cripple/slow down a melee train, cause they almost all have port skills, jump skills or they remove condis continuesly … and even if they dont remove them they got resistance.

I never saw a poll regarding profession balance and there were no reall solutions for server matchup balance given to vote for. Actually for me there never was a big deal about matchup balance, only different server activity over 24h, which doesnt effect balance on prime time (fights).
Scoring is there to affect the server ranking and so ur matchup. … Now you have serverlinking that changes every month … so what for do you need scoring changes when it has no effects on matchup and you got no real awards for ‘winning’.
it would be easier to start a ‘WvW-map creation’ contest or a ‘WvW- scoring’ contest that are similar to those ‘Art’ contests.
People will do some brainstorming and create really nice solutions for a better WvW Reward them with some gems and its done. —> map/Color diversity solved.
There is a giant assumption here… that the polls they are conducting will direct design and development.
These polls are most likely a way from them to prioritize already existing design elements as well as getting feedback before development starts. They serve a secondary purpose in that they help the community to feel more engaged in the future design of WvW. It isn’t a perfect system but it is better than most.
Think of these polls as a conversation not as a dictation.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
The polls are a farce, and they are literally making up the rules for them as they go along, its tragic.

well the most tragic thing is the WvW-beta status 4 years after game release … . They turned a more or less working gamemode into beta status via HOT add on … lol .
