This is going to be a bit of a rant, and I apologize in advance, but I am simply fed up.

I am tired of getting on WvW and fighting as hard as I can, wasting gold only to lose to a server with poor tactics, and the only reason we lose is because they have 5 times the number of players. I remember a dev speaking on one news post about how some zergs made him want to turtle up in his keep and cry, promising a fix to that unbalance, but that is another empty promise.

They want balance to this game? I am skeptical but hopeful they can fix things. This game is going to go the way of Aion if they keep it up.

Some examples:

I think a great solution to this ‘five million people at once’ would be to introduce a different kind of cap. Example, two groups are clashing, one holds 30 people (We’ll call them AA), the other holds 10 (We’ll call them BB). The AA group gets a ‘zerg’ debuff, giving the group of 10 a fighting chance to hold their turf that they’ve spent the last 5 hours guarding tooth and nail. However, what is that over there? Motion? about 5 more of the BB get into fighting range, evening it to 15 vs 30, the debuff wears off a bit and the chances get more interesting.

Yeah it needs polish and is likely a pipe dream, but if you don’t want your casual players to quit playing your game all together, you need to remember some things. Making everyone hop servers faster than a person with ADHD playing musical chairs is an idea that yes, generates revenue, but if you want sustained revenue you need to invent ideas that don’t cater only to the people who have chosen not to pursue any extra curricular activities.

Pretty soon, the casual players who haven’t jumped servers or can’t afford to will be on a server at the bottom of the totem pole with a very low population of wvw players.
They will log on to do some daily or maybe monthly achievements, and find out that they get rick rolled at every turn on their own borderland simply because there are superior numbers rather than skill.

Another thing that is sorely lacking is defense rewards. I understand that this is a difficult concept, as rampant bots could abuse this, but why not give rewards for staying inside keeps and towers? Example, Someone patrols walls, clicks on the walls and doors to make sure they are okay, and refreshes siege, and upgrades should have a chance to get something back for their generous spirit.

How about a category for ‘upgrades’ where you can get some gold back?
What about introducing a patrolling NPC that people have to interact with regularly while walking below the walls? Here’s an idea for that NPC to prevent bots: Make it have an AoE, a small ring you have to stay in to make him/her move, and the longer you stay in there, you will get a sliver of rewards every now and then. Give the NPC an erratic path to discourage bots.

Again, it needs polish but it’s better than what we have right now, or so I think, because there is 0 reason to stay and defend when all it does is make someone hemorrhage gold on upgrades, and give up potential rewards from running around and flipping things. As a closing note, what happened to Karma on Dolyaks?! I would run so many more of those furry things to their destination for a better reward than ‘congrats you stuck beside a smelly pseudo buffalo for over 3 minutes!’ We don’t even get confetti!

These are just ideas I came up with in under an hour, they are far from perfect and yes, I have no formal training with video games. However as a player, I think these opinions are valid and hold onto the hope that once again I can enjoy playing /all/ aspects of the game.

I actually like the idea about the NPC patrolling in the keep/ at walls, where you can interact to be rewarded (since I spent 40-70% of my WvW life as scout or upgrading towers/ keeps).
On the other side the thing with zerg meets small zerg and gets a debuff becuase of it – I think this wouldn’t work, just because of technical issues. Even now we have horrible skilllaggs and everytime the bloodlustbuff is activated again or goes from one server to another the laggs are getting worse.
But in an other thread I read about something similiar – rewards should be granted according to zerg-sizes. Like 60 ppl take a keep → the points will be divided by 60… 10 ppl take a keep → points will be divided by 10 and so on (calculation seems a bit harsh, but it would make ppl think about running around with 80+ players).
I would appreciate such changes, but I guess, ArenaNet still has to get better servers or reduce the maximum numbers of players on the maps, before things like this could be happen.

Balance in simple few lines
Revert arrow cart dmg to what it was before the constant qqing of the zerglings.
Siege dmg now ignores protection or Might boosts siege DMG.
Equalise cost between siege might and siege bunker (because siege bunker costing 30 points and stacking with fortitude and protection and iron hide where siege might costs 70 isnt balanced at all )

Its just that simple,yet we get get a full roster of achievements catering to the zerglings.
I dont understand the developers at times no matter how hard i try…..

Just like everything Anet has implemented, the execution of it is done very poorly. First the let free tranfers go on for way too long allowing all the guilds to jump from Teir 1 to T8 and ROLF stomp all their way back to T1. They tried fixing it by closing free transfers and allowing free tranfers back to medium/low pop servers but who would want to transfer back down when the new updated matchup system pits you against servers 6 or 7 ranks higher than yours. Then they bring out seasons and someone has the great idea of announcing that you rewards for participation will be determined by how well you server performs weeks in advance. What the hell did you think that was going to do Anet? A ton of people moved from lower tier to the top 3 and some servers began losing on purpose to lower their scores to be in top of Silver instead of bottom of Gold league.

Be careful what you wish for, Anet might just give it to you “HoT”

What about just improve the “Outnumbered” buff. Currently it just give a xp/gold/mf boost and no fee on repair. I think if this buff increase at least health and power, its balance most of the unbalanced fight.

@Zealoux: that would just be another Bloodlust-Buff and even now they already have problems with it, skilllagg, frozen screens, dc’s… Now imagine 2 of these buffs xDD I guess if this would come, ArenaNet would have no problems again with zergs – ppl would just be so annoyed, that they would quit once and for ever.

A ton of people moved from lower tier to the top 3 and some servers began losing on purpose to lower their scores to be in top of Silver instead of bottom of Gold league.

More like the top 3 server heavily recruited from low tiers and strip other servers of their wvw guilds. FA and DB lost multiple guild to t1 servers that bought various guilds. SBI attempted to move upto gold league but got stomped down to silver league because of SoR.

Err SoR actually babysitted SBI the entire last week before the league started.
It just didnt made it in ,and in the end it was a whole week of griefing for nothing.

Wow, I’m glad to see a lot of responding posts. Glad to know I’m not the only one who’s frustrate by zerging populations.

I’ve never been especially fond of server transfers, and from the feedback I’m getting that seems to be the biggest issue aside from the unbalanced mechanics.

You will find many agree with you but, many who have made post’s both constuctive and nasty always to be ignored. There has been So many great ideas that the players have come up with to help solve this issue but, it wasn’t Devon’s idea so were wrong.

Its pointless to put your faith in them to fix it when they can’t even figure out the difference between server population and server ranks when discounting transfers.

Well, there is a reward for defending, but since it isn’t loot, it seems no one cares. The league is a competition, and holding your stuff equals more points. Just because it doesn’t drop a chest, or more bloodstone dust (which you will have way too much of anyways), or more emp stars (which again, you will have way too much of), doesn’t mean that there is no reward.

You do get karma and stuff for repealing defenders. But still, it is about the ppt.

Also, when defending, you can farms some serious bags (Abyss, on SBI has been farming FA in the southern towers all week, while defending). So, you can get loot out of defending as well.

People just don’t look at it that way. Defending can be a blast. It usually involves a good fight. Why do people complain about not getting rewards for defending, when they clearly exist. I guess, fun, bags, wxp, karma, holding ppt, and pride just isn’t enough for some people.
