I want the RI enemy marking removed, and I want gate tapping removed, here’s why:
1: The threat of a portal cap added the necessity to sweep a keep, which forced players to learn that keep instead of zerging around mindlessly. Without it, they can glance and continue their rampage elsewhere, it removes a skill layer.
2: Players should not be able to deal damage to gates, and a keep should only be considered contested when at least one guard is fully dead, or there has been structural damage which implies that siege has been comitted. There is a delay on contested coming up on a keep or tower, and with a large group that means the wall could be half dead by the time the place is flagged.
The situation we find ourselves in is that I can walk up the side of a map and contest half of it with one shot to its cannons (and running to check contests all night caused by someone like me is understandably exhausting), and I often show up to a point and find a wall or two half dead with no enemies in sight because the threat was removed but people were too busy with their zergfest to go back and “sweep” which would have allowed them to see a wall is damaged and needed repair.
I like automatic upgrades, because I used be in lower tier matchups in which no one could feasibly commit to upgrading, as things flipped too often— so this isn’t a “good old days” tirade, I genuinely believe that the game mode had more depth when mesmers were a threat.
