Currently a portion of the playerbase is upset after losing their servers and though this is currently temporary it still serves as a learning experience.

Queues are also currently rearing their heads again and though this may die down, a solution may be needed for that as well.

Below is my current thoughts on a possible fix to these issues.

This will be from an EU point of view since I know very little about the NA WvW scene.

  • Take the 9 currently disabled servers and form them into a new WvW matchup experience, dubbed ‘Smallscale’.
  • Allow all players currently on the main servers to select a Smallscale secondary server and vice versa.
  • Disable squads to discourage blobbing on the Smallscale servers only.

Pros:

  • Server identity saved.
  • Players that enjoy the smaller scaled combat of the bronze league servers could retain that feeling.
  • Players from the main servers can port over to help Smallscale servers in case of emergency.
  • Smallscale servers could act as an overflow in case main servers are queued.

Cons.

  • Maybe hard to implement.
  • Risk of some players trying to blob up Smallscale servers despite the lack of squads.
  • Difficulty in calling for help from main servers if the players are scattered, though this could be fixed by joining server specific guilds.

Who would the Smallscale secondary server be fighting against? For example my FoW is currently linked to GH and we fight FSP+UW and DZ. What match would we be in for the smallscale server?

Ah, sorry I should have specified. They’d be fighting the other “missing” servers so FoW, Vabbi, WSR, Underworld etc.

There should be 9 Smallscale servers so there’d be 3 matchups happening at any given time, completely independent from the “main” matchups.

I have my doubts about this system, considering there will be even less players joining the smallscale matches then there was playing in low tiers before linking. And it was really empty already. Maybe if they only get 1 single map, instead of 4 empty maps.

And personally I would probably not join the smallscale match, but I think there are still players who would. At least it is solid idea.

A mediocre band-aid.

What they need is a seamless map system that can scale with the overall population and separate players/guilds/claims by servers while dynamically matching them with ally servers to create a decently balanced matchup.

Maybe it sounds like EoTM megaserver with WvW matchups and server identities. That’s because it is. We already have the answer in front of us, we just wont accept it.

Interesting. I am still in favor of 4 unique 3 sided maps. That said you made me wonder. What if there were 7 or 8 maps in the current match ups?

So right now we keep only the larger populations home BLs. What if instead we could have traveled to those three server matches or the other 3 server match up maps. So my home borderland needs a hand, people from the other server can travel there to assist and are flagged as my server. They need help and I port there, I am flagged as their server. Now on this example we could be also have 2 EBs, same rules apply. I am on their EB that is part of their 3 server match I am flagged as them, they are assisting ours, they are flagged as us.

Question is with the queues, do we have enough people for this? But if you think about then both servers have their identities, numbers can be bolstered and there are plenty of maps for all. Would require a slight switch to the UIs. Allow people to work together or not as they will, deals with server ID issues and queues, and expands the battlefield and therefore strategic options to which one to be on.

So far only queues in our GH+FoW server are on EB, even at prime time BL maps are still usually queue-free. Adding more maps… I dunno.

Agree that is the biggest issue, don’t have the stats to say if this is feasible or not and couldn’t blame ANet for wanting a month or more of numbers before changing things again since it would be too small a sampling.
