I hated WvW before HoT for a number of reasons. The biggest were that the people were mostly jerks; nobody would help you unless you were in their team (or whatever they call groups there — can you tell I don’t know much about it?).

Then, after avoiding it for years, the second and even bigger reason jumped in front of me: there’s no way to catch up.

But, many people have been saying HoT destroyed WvW. What I want to know is, is it “dead” because there’s nobody there? If so, does that mean I might like it, since I won’t have to be overrun by bunches of enemies all the time?

This is a serious question. I’ve never completed a set of dailies in WvW, but now I’m wondering if maybe there’s a chance. And maybe I can use up all those useless siege weapons in my bank.

At least on my world, WvW is noticeably less busy than it was pre-HoT. People ended up not liking the new desert borderlands maps and simply don’t play on them.

The upside, I guess, is I can get all the new POIs, vistas, etc. without worrying about being killed. The downside is there’s really no one to play with out there.

EB, in my experience, is busier than the borderlands, but even there the numbers are less than they used to be so far.

From what I can tell, a lot of WvWers are very discouraged or annoyed right now due to the unlikeable borderlands, changes to what their guilds had access to pre-HoT and what they don’t have now, difficulty upgrading for WvW, various changes to how upgrading in general works now, the change in reset night, etc. It’s a lot of things really.

The only part of WvW since HoT where I consistently see a good sized group of people is in EOTM where people level, farm karma and other items, and use it to get their Proof of Heroics scrolls.

Thanks for the info. I think I’ll try to sneak in and stay unnoticed.

It’s supposed to be open world PvP, why is your goal to do PvE dailies in there?

WvW dailies, not PvE. I already do all the PvE dailies every day. I’ve avoided WvW for the reasons above, but mainly because I play solo most of the time, and that’s painful to endure in WvW.

What I’m asking in this thread is if it’s possible to wander WvW without as much fear of instant death as it used to be. (Last time I did anything in WvW, the mapping title was the only reason I went there, so that tells you how long it’s been.)

So far, I haven’t seen any enemy players face-to-face in the new borderlands since they launched. I saw some orange dots on the map once. I also haven’t seen friendly players more than once or twice. I still keep an eye out though. Old habits die hard.

It kind of depends on what server you’re on.

If you jump into WvWvW alone with a PvE build then you’re probably going to get ripped to shreds, even experienced and properly built players have to deal with getting ganked/zerged down. Doing WvWvW dailies without seeing red names means you’re playing a dead zone, at that point there is no difference between than and 100% safe zone PvE dailies.

Whispers with meat.

I still don’t understand the question. WvW is suppose to be large scale PvP combat. If there is no enemy, there is no point in WvW either. You can probably find emptier borderland maps now then before HoT, and you probably find more enemies in EB.

I highly doubt you can use up all those siege blueprints while soloing in WvW. Unless you like to defend the keeps and use defensive siege. Taking towers or keeps on yourself takes too much time and in some cases could be impossible because of number of guards respawning.

As the enemy roamers go, I think only very dedicated people are left. These people have been training this for last 3 years, with very specific equipment and builds. HoT sadly has made several classes way too powerful so it is likely you will die before you can even understand you are in the battle. The anet only cares about balance between classes in PvP, in WvW you simply can not survive by using whatever class/build/skills you like.

Basically, I’m trying to figure out if I can game the system due to the lack of people, and pick up occasional WvW daily achievements.

I think you’re right that I would get smoked if I tried to do actual conquering, even if there’s only a handful of people around.

But, I think I’m going to try a few times and see what happens.

Oh, and my use of any siege stuff would be purely to get them out of my inventory. I could just delete them, but I’m a pack-rat.

Certain WvW achievements have always been easy to snag and continue to be easy. Mists Guard Killer is super easy; just kill 5 NPCs. Caravan just requires killing one Dolyak which is even easier now that more of them spawn. Monuments (formerly ruins) is also easy to find and capture solo. Big Spender is of course always the easiest.

Dailies cap at 3 so anything after that only rewards an underwhelming chest of stuff. For a PvE’er, doing the Daily Gatherer, Daily Vista, and one of the easy WvW dailies is a great quick combo to run.

Perfect! This is exactly the kind of info I am looking for. Thank you very much!

The WvW Transcend Chest also contains an XP buff that works in all game modes. The buff goes active the moment you open it tho. Also unfortunately the chests don’t stack.

This sounds like a passive aggressive post.

If not, you need to just play and figure out what to take away and enjoy from WvW.

Honestly, though, maybe this just isn’t the game for you.

Blackgate Native. It takes tremendous strength and skill to pull a lever.
