So, since Structured PvP (saying S PvP is censored here???) is still in beta, I am going to try WvW. I have sampled it many times, but it wasn’t my flavor. I am now interested in the progression being introduced in the March 26th patch, which is what left me wanting more on my previous attempts.

So, since I don’t fully understand what is going on here, help me out.

I have a lvl 40 character, because my 600+ hours were spent (wasted?) in SPvP. I now have nothing to show for it. So, when I start in WvW, will I be on equal footing (progression-wise) with everyone else that also plays after the patch? Also, since I detest PvE, will I have any chance of getting the top tier gear from my WvW progression? If not the pinnacle of gear, can I at least get something close?

I’m going to start leveling now to get as close to 80 as possible before patch, but I guess I just don’t fully grasp what I can achieve by just doing WvW.

There’s nothing to achieve in wvw unless you care about making a meaningless score go up every week. The progression is just going to be for zergers; stuff like carrying more siege. Just run around killing kitten. Much more fun. Technically you can get geared from solely wvw, but it will take you a very, very long time to get a full suit like that.

You can level up and gear yourself in WvWvW…

OFC your character, even tho it’s upleveled, you won’t match the level 80 full exotics out there, but as soon you hit 80 and the exotic gear from the badges of honor, you will be able to compete in equal footing…

When I said equal footing for that, I meant we all start at 0 progression on March 26th right? So even though I’m only 40, I’ll be able to start at the same place a level 80 in full exotics is starting.

In terms of the progression/achievement yes.

You are still going to have junk gear and no traits. You will have the health pool of a level 80 but don’t expect to be able to solo someone unless they are bad and/or also have bad gear/traits. You can get invaders gear. It might take you 2-8 weeks to get a full set depending on how much you play.

Another big factor is going to be what server you play on as tier 8 matches are not exactly the same as tier 1.

Technically yes, you will have the same chances of progress of a person who been doing WvW for a long time.

It is possible to fully gear in WvW, you will be earning money for capping stuff and killing individuals along with badges and Karma. You can gather low tier materials from boderlands and mid high tier materials from the Eternal Bg, so you can craft yourself stuff with those materials in other to boost your exp pool and get geared quicker while keeping a balance between gear and level.

As mentioned before battles will depend a lot on the tier of your server. T1 is way more organize, active and got Ques I believe. While lower tiers are either 1 server pwning the other 2 while another struggles and the last is technically nowhere to be found. This balance itself as it goes up in tiers though.

Personally I leveled by doing WvW and Crafting with the materials I got from there, my armor I got from the temples in Orr by saving my karma, as a legendary weapon is honestly a waste of time imo. “Don’t like the skins, no better stats and no entertaining way to get it lol!”

You sound like somebody who would rather play HORSE than a real game of basketball. To each his own …

—> Yes they have mentioned that World XP is not retroactive and begins from the 26.

—>Your time spent in spvp will help you fight in wvw battles more effectively.

—> You will need atleast exoctic gear.

—>You do not need to grind for gear and can simply buy gear with gold

You will get a ton of karma during WvW and when combined with the karma jugs from dailies you’ll be able to hop on over to Orr and get the exotic karma armour with your desired stat set relatively quickly. You can also use the badges you get from killing other players to purchase exotic invader armour in WvW. I mostly WvW myself and my armour/weapons are a mixture of karma/trade-house sets. I’m saving my badges for….something, don’t know what yet, but hopefully Anet will give me something exciting to purchase with them in a future update.

You won’t be at your best with your up-leveled character, but with 600+ hours of Structured PvP experience, I don’t think you’ll struggle to fill your bag with lots of lovely badges

Dont listen to most of these people, as long as you know your class and the class mechanics of your enemies, you can kill people. I brought my Necro into WvW at level 18 last week, I am now level 40 solely through WvW. Upgrade your gear every 10 levels, buy Fine stuff, or Rare if you are one of the lucky people to have tons of gold… Dont go in expecting Raw damage power, you’re going to have to work for it, and any kills you get, you will have to work twice as hard to get them and to survive…
