Entire guilds have transferred from my server because they saw the scores. Instead of server pride and working towards getting the ranking up higher they have opted to go to the higher ranking servers. This means all the big serious WVW guilds have in fact, abandoned my server. Great system you have here a-net….

Ehmry – Ferguson – Borlis is a good matchup right now and I’m willing to bet queues are low on all 3. You people waiting in queues: transfer to one of these servers and come play!

Yeah its such a great matchup, Emhry own eveything in Borlis Pass (Borlis can’t even get the camp to the north of the citadel)… and they are 14k while the other two are under 7k… and with free transfers still open, a few folks in map chat said adios…

I think anet must be operating under the assumption that PvPer’s overriding motivation is to have fair and balanced fights. This couldn’t be further from reality.

In my opinion what they should do is wait maybe a week more and start implementing fees for server transfer: but very slowly, not starting from 1800 gems but way less, like 10? This would help to slowly stabilize populations, preventing server hopping several times a day depending who has better WvWvW score at this very moment.

I was tempted to transfer to a “better” server like many others had. But then I remember their multi-hour queues to get into WvWvW and just smile.
Besides. It is much more fun playing as the under dog and being deep in enemy territory as a solo thief or as a hit and run group instead of a mindless zerg.

People will be transferring from bad matchups now more than anything. 1 week of being locked into a really bad matchup is going tokitten people off. Sea of Sorrows is going to lose players for sure if they keep ET, IoJ and SoS in this matchup for 1 week. I think Jade Quarry has that problem as well.

I’d transfer DOWN if I were on a winning server with hour long queue times. We actually started on a lower pop server to make sure we didn’t have the problem.

TA did the same thing until ANet decided to keep free transfers way longer than anyone expected, especially it being still available when 1 week matchups started.

I think the fact that people can still freely transfer to high pop servers is ridiculous. There must be some huge disconnect between quality control and WvW. They’ll shut down digital sales for the stability and quality assurance of the game overall, but they won’t shut down free transfers for the stability and quality assurance of WvW.

I think the discrepancy between people that want to just dominate their opposition with numbers (and strangers) and the the people that want to fight to earn their points among friends, is a litmus test.
I like, personally, this weeding out period where the people who are happy with queues all mash themselves together into crowded servers and leave the majority of them, even if they’ve been doing really well on their own merit in the middle brackets, behind. Playing with my friends, rather than strangers intent on domination, shouldn’t involve long waits and guesswork (and yes I know full well all the various things you can do on less-populated borderlands with friends, but often there’s still just as long of a queue on those during peak periods in lower-half servers).
I don’t think that the servers in the lower-half much cared that they were not even close to beating the top server, just like I don’t think servers in the top 1/4 cared if they had an hour or two, or six, to queue and play with their friends (just so long as they’re winning, that’s all they care about). The thing is, now that we know the rankings, there isn’t a veil covering their visions to misconstrue their domination of fellow lower-half-ers to be actual world domination. Those near the bottom thinking “we’re winning because our server is the best” will simply disappear into the upper-tier queueline.

None of this is the fault of Arena Net or the system they designed. Players have been given the choice to make World v World what they want it to be. People create alliances with hundreds or even thousands of pvp players and then wonder why the have queues. Off peak players, instead of spreading themselves amongst all the servers all congregate on a handful, thus guaranteeing they will spend most of the time in pve against keep lords.
You want good competition? The large alliances on HoD, ET, JQ, etc. need to dissolve and spread themselves amongst all the servers. The off peak players need to spread themselves out to other servers. The problem is no one actually seems to want a fair fight. Titan Alliance, Ascension and all the rest may want a challenge but it’s hard to imagine when you have stuffed the majority of organized pvp guilds onto a couple of servers. In short we players have made WvW into what it is now. Maybe you all believed that there would be hundreds and thousands of unknown pvp powerhouses that would suddenly appear from no where. That hasn’t happened and it won’t happen.
(Not belittling those alliances or heavy pvp worlds. Certainly they have put a great deal of effort into being where they are. However, unless those large pvp groups are willing to split up and compete with each other, pvp will remain exactly what it is today. Depending on pugs or new players to somehow equal things out is a pipe dream.)
It is up to the customers to fix the imbalance not Arena Net. Either the strong pvp guilds and alliances voluntarily split and spread themselves amongst all the servers or what we have now is the best it will ever get. After all the costumer is always right.

Actually both ANet and the playerbase is at fault here. The playerbase at large is being, well, human – they want to ‘win,’ or rather, they want to say they’re on the best server whether or not they actually did anything. This isn’t some new phenomena though, it’s human nature. ANet screwed up by not shutting down transfers to the top servers as it became alarmingly apparent that they were getting full. They have the exact metrics for all of their servers so there was no excuse not to shut transfers off to at least the top servers.

If only. 2 full guilds have just transferred from Kaineng and Borlis Pass to HoD, so the “this server is full” is just rubbish and doesn’t work >.<

Guys pointing the fingers at players are naiive about human behaviour. Right now free transfers exist to servers that are already overpopulated. Right now one week games are active, and if you want to get some competitive WvW then you are more likely to transfer.
Anet wishing that the playerbase disperses needs to be backed up with action. Right now the outmanned buff is pointless, free transfers to high pop servers are still up, and servers have been matched with what looks like a disregard for their own ranking list.

Players transferring into a server won’t always help that server move up in rankings. Because of the caps on population in WvW lakes, a large influx of players into currently highly-ranked servers would actually hurt the performance of those worlds in overall rankings. Given that they are already highly ranked, that might not be a bad thing, since it would have the effect of evening things out.
If I could take every one of our “less capable” players and ship them off to HoD, you bet I would.
