My prediction of what will happen in a few months is that the servers residing in tier 6,7, and 8 will merge within their tier to one superserver. This will create a new tier in which these 9 servers are now 3 servers competing in the lowest tier which would be tier 6 now. Their will only be six tiers and 18 servers for both EU and NA.

I think this would be a reasonable way to merge servers.

Any thoughts or other predictions on how they will eventually merge the lower tier servers?

Yes they will. Having 24 servers in which around 10 are ghost towns is not an ideal situation, especially in regards to WvW. Also the people in the lower tiers will enjoy this because it will boost their population and make much better WvW matches.

Also how cool would it be to have a server named Henge of Darkgate

the lower 3 tiers are fine and currently the most balanced matches of this week. We like it this way. So no, no merger.

Has it occurred to you that people are on those low servers to pve? They could care less about wvw. There will not be server mergers any time soon.

Another reason they won’t merge servers. Not everybody likes the same type of WvW. Some people enjoy playing with/against only small groups while others just enjoy the large zergs.

The matches would be much better in my opinion. Honestly its going to happen sooner or later but three months is most likely way to soon. I give it at most a year. It is inevitable at the rate of population attrition at the moment.

Also this is a much bigger problem with the EU servers. Their tier 8 is literally a dead zone.

Also why would the people who PvE even care about server mergers? I would think they would embrace it since they would have more people to PvE with.

Did you ever checked out a low tier server? Don’t think so. I’m in tier 7 (third place) and there a plenty of people on WvW here. Definitly not a ghost town. I wouldn’t enjoy a server merge.

I doubt they are going to merge servers. Even though it might be needed(IDK because I am on a populated server) they probably won’t do it because it will net them bad publicity. I would say like someone said above, give it a year.

No, I don’t think server mergers are inevitable. People keep saying that but while they haven’t added new servers they’ve increased server capacity. I think I read that back even in November they were at 90% capacity for the Karka event.

WvW population has nothing to do with merging, it’s total server population (which includes PvE players) that matters. Besides WvW is still active in the lower tiers, it’s just on a smaller scale. We even hit capacity and had a queue on our borderland last week one evening I was on.

I completely agree.
The current matches are pretty much “perfect”, the best ones I’ve had till now, by far and far.
I actually have fun and things are competitive.
And yes, they did increased server capacity (also to help solving culling and their long term solution that they’ll add eventually).

Different strokes for diferente folks OP, we prefer the WvW as it currently is.

T6 is the most balanced I’ve ever seen it atm.

I will concur with the opinions here – you have no clue abut whats going on and how the lower tiers operate. Nothing wrong with T6. Fairly balanced numbers, you have to actually consider your resources as you cannot possibly cover every map and 5 man teams are just as valuable as Zergs because skill actually matters – you cant just throw another 100-200 lemmings at the problem. Did we also mention the added bonus of no wait times.?

The top tier servers have a massive WvW population. We have a massive PvE population with much less WvW players. Ghost town my kitten

Keep your high tier 24×7 zergfests, we like what we have.

Tier 8 is fine. Always fights going on. Far from being a ghost town, and it’s fairly well balanced.

As all other lower tiered players have said, we are perfectly fine the way we are and has plenty of awesome fights, and good strategically ones too not just huge kitten zergs! We actually have close matches and individuals and small teams can make a much bigger difference, so were perfectly fine!

Another example of thinking about server populations only in terms of WvW. It just doesn’t work that way.

Look at the balance of the bottom 3 tiers. Now look at the balance of the rest of WvW. If you looked it up the balance of the other tiers you will realize there is none. Even T1 usually isn’t balanced. (except for this week and its only a battle between 2 servers)
