Press [F] to Finish him?
It’s a finishing move. You raise your hand high above your head and plant a flag in your enemy’s chest.
At least that’s the theory. In WvW, so many people have downed abilities that seek to prevent you from finishing them, that it’s difficult (especially mesmers…)
But it does work
Playing a various Stormspire alt – if it’s Stormspire, it’s probably me
Guilds: Elder Prophets [EP], Principality of New Katulus (PiNK)
What if i told you that
you can beat the kitten out of downed enemy. (and I usually do that)
I usually only finish players if I roll up on them while already in stealth. It is more fun to slap them with daggers or shoot at them with bow while they’re down!!

i would rather dance by the downed player side and hit him again when he is about to rally, and dance again…..

Why especially Mesmers? something else to be nerfed? It’s always Mesmer, nerf Moa.Nerf Portals,Nerf Berserka and now downed ability.Do tell me what special downed abilities Mesmer has?
Ability is pretty pointless seeing as how almost every class has 2 downed interrupt abilities you’re usually better off attacking them to death

It’s definitely not pointless, it’s just not always the best option. Learn the different interrupts and work around them.
It’s a way to guarantee you finish them regardless of how tough they are or any healing.
People need to realise cbuffs or tricks they can use to avoid the interrupts. They also need to think on whether damage or finishing is the right move for that situation.
A lot of players try to dps through it and I watch the downed guy rally or multiple members of my server die when a quick finisher could of rallied 5 people.
It’s definitely a major kitten check that most people fail.

i prefer just to get them to around 5% in down status and let them rez the long way

I laughed out loud. That’s so evil.
tip against mesmers the real downed player will have a red arrow above their head, downed clones don’t.
finishers are best used with stealth or stability etc to prevent interruption, or just do it the old fashion way and keep hitting them while their down.

I think the downed system is not the best part of pvp.
I’ve had multiple 1 v 1 fights in which I was winning. Had 1 guy downed and the other dude came halfway in.
Now here is the problem. The only options left for me were:
1. [F] Finish the downed player (which would obviously get me killed by the other player.
2. Attack the other player while ignoring the downed one for a bit.
So I attacked the other dude, hoping I wouldn’t die this way. But he simply rezzed the player I was trying to kill so hard all the time. Now there were 2 foes up against me. And all my skills were on cooldown.
Thats the point were I got downed and there was practically nothing I could do.
The most skilled player would have probably ran away, because that seems the only wise thing to do there.
And even in 4 v 4 fights where 3 persons get downed and and enemy gets killed. They just all rally. Its not really based on skill. Its just based on getting downed before your enemy gets finished.
Down state evasion mechanics per class:
Warriors have single target knockdown. If stomping, stomp with friend.
Rangers have 1 time aoe blind (and maybe a 1 time single target blind). Stomp and stomp again or aoe/ranged damage down.
Mesmers port away and leave clone nearby. Find the one with the arrow on their head and spike.
Necros have aoe 100? range fear. Stomp and stomp again or aoe/damage down.
Eles have mist form for 2 sec. Pretend to stomp or damage down. Repeat after mist form.
Guardians have aoe knockback. Damage until knockback, stomp!
Engineers have aoe blind, I think. Not sure on this. See ranger.
Theif has port away and then invis. Just dps down, imho. Only class you end up having to stomp 3 times to get the final killing blow.
I haven’t really had much experience with playing any of these classes but these are my experiences as an ele.
Also, if you really want them stomped, stability will work against all of these class downed states except the mesmer, thief, and ele. As an ele, I start my stomp and put up earth shield or mist form. You can also start your stomp on thief/mesmer/ele and lightning flash within range if you can time it just right.
Eles and guardians are the kings of stomping.

Engi’s have a knockdown that pulls the target to them, their second ability is an aoe knockback. Just pop stability of you’re alone and finish them off.
The warrior knockdown is simple to deal with, even with perfect timing if you try to finish them, and they hit you with a hammer right before you complete the animation just get back up and finish them again. As long as you aren’t particularly slow at it all, you can finish them before they get another hammer or can use their vengeance.
If they DO use their vengence CC or kite them. After 10 seconds they go straight to defeated when they use it. But some have a trait that lets them live if they kill something, don’t let them kill you in that 10 seconds.
Rangers have a throw dirt that bleeds, that’s just their damage move, it won’t stop a finish. They call a lightning bolt to stop a finish, which is an AoE interrupt. It will interrupt you and your friends, but again like the warrior, just finish again after they use it and there is nothing they can do.
In fact a finish is a better choice against a ranger more often. The ranger’s down 3 skill revives their pet and calls it to them and the pet starts rallying the ranger. I’ve seen my pet heal me for more than a thief was hitting me for a few times. But the pet can’t do a thing against a finisher.

quickness shortens stomp time, as long as you use it before you start stomping.
Rangers are good at stomping since they get a 2s quickness from swapping pets if specced. Quickness stomping can finish a target before their #2 downed ability is up. It also usually surprises enemies and can let you finish them before they finish casting their #2.

One thing only A-Net can fix is that a lot of times downed players will close the game before you can finish them. Until there’s some sort of penalty for closing the game (this has been discussed in many other threads) sometimes you’ll just be SOL. I find I have better luck against this by just trying to damage them to death using normal attacks, rather than the finishing move.
Now here is the problem. The only options left for me were:
1. [F] Finish the downed player (which would obviously get me killed by the other player.
2. Attack the other player while ignoring the downed one for a bit.
3. Use AE to hit both, particularly effective if the “reinforcing” enemy is actually trying to revive his ally in a 2v1 situation instead of just beating you down with assistance from his downed buddy.
4. Make the “reinforcing” enemy your primary target while periodically hitting the downed guy to stop him from getting up on his own.
What, you mean those are more tactically complicated solutions to the problem? Well, maybe you shouldn’t expect winning a 1v2 to be simple.
Engi’s have a knockdown that pulls the target to them, their second ability is an aoe knockback. Just pop stability of you’re alone and finish them off.
That knockback iirc takes 20 seconds to come up. In my experience, you’ve either rallied or dallied by then. Personally I think they should switch engineer #3 with #2, so it’s defensive and if you’re being ignored you can make it offensive.
I think everytime you have the option to “Finish Him” the Mortal Kombat voice should come on. XD
