Proposed solution to full servers
From what I understand, inactive accounts have no bearing on sever status. WvW account activity does.

Inactive accounts already are not counted for server population, haven’t been for almost a whole year now.

i think op was talking about in regards to transfering to another server. not in regards to WvW queues
It’s in regards to free up space on OP server. Kick inactives to free up space for incoming transfers. OP just missed the memo about where server status comes from. This was long the case on the forums about how those metrics were derived. Now they are trying to hone in on them proper.

while this is true, BG got so large so fast because those inactives that ’didn’t count’ were still on BG when they came back from hiatus for the big patch. Granted it seems many have left again, but at some point maybe you should be no longer attached to a wvw server….
OR
Could be we wont ever see that sort of one off influx again so not a problem…
It is very clear a static server system is no longer working for the WvW game mode.
Server linking is just a band-aid solution to make it semi-dynamic.
There needs to a new dynamic server system for WvW

Oh I see. Yea that “potential population” is not something players/guilds looking to transfer or Anet’s server linking can realistically account for with regards to population balance. It is truly fairweather. Not sure about it though considering that it disappears again. WvW is very cyclical. Too many people seem to panic transfer just because of those fairweathers.

Panic transfers, hmm.
Wonder how insanely profitable those are for Anet. It almost gives them the incentive to troll for it and I almost can’t blame them. >.>
for there you have been and there you will long to return.

Like I said, maybe it was a one off thing never to be repeated again, but those blobs right after patch were insane…

So much this. As server loyal as I am, I honestly think the only way to fix this is to move away from the idea of servers. Stacking is still continuing at the cost of lower tier servers mainly. JQ is buying more guilds for a push back to T1, DB is continuing to bring in guilds, Maguuma’s NA is stacking as well. All these guilds come from somewhere and for the most part it’s people moving up. Lower tier servers will just continue to bleed population as this process continues and nothing has been put in place to halt it, especially now with so many host servers open. The same problems exist. For a true population solution, this system needs to be rebuilt completely because bandaid fixes are not going to fix the underlying issues.
