PvP badges gone in WvW
Honestly it should show in HoTM only, no point adding this visual clutter to other game modes.
(edited by Excimer.3987)
Yes I agree on your point, if it had been this way since the beginning of leagues, to make badges be shown ONLY in Hotm, not in PvE and not in WvW; but to change it suddenly in the middle of a season with 0 notice…… it honestly feels like all my hard work just got taken away in an instant. Just like people make legendary weapons cos they look nice (no other reason or you’s stick with ascended), I did PvP for the same reason, because I like the look of the badge next to my name.
Think of it like if Anet suddenly decided to reduce the appearances of every single legendary weapon in the game, after nearly 4 years, how would the people who farmed hard for them feel?

I agree.

We need wvw badges :p to go with our shiny names.

Any update on this? I really hope it is a bug and not an intended change. To reiterate: in WvW you can no longer see the pvp badge next to your own name, nor anybody else’s on your server.
I really don’t want these badges back. They were not important and just cluttered the screen.
(edited by Nauda.3678)
I don’t know, maybe you don’t want but to have spent a lot of time and effort obtaining something only for the aesthetics and then for it to be taken away, it feels like a colossal waste of time.
This is intentional. We made the change to help with nameplate visual clutter in WvW.
I guess that’s that then. Don’t suppose this can be overturned, but I’ll give it a shot anyway; like I stated above the only reason I bothered with PvP leagues at all was to have legendary badge next to my name. Is it vain? Absolutely, but there is no difference between this and why people farm for better skins/legendary weapons, I just liked the badge better; and now it is suddenly taken away, in the middle of the current season no less…sorry but you don’t just give people a goal to work towards and then to take it away just like that. So I’m asking for you to revert this decision, if not then at least re implement it for the start of season 4.
I would’ve been perfectly fine had you kept PvP badges away from WvW in the first place, then it would’ve given me no excuse to step foot in PvP during seasons. For me, reaching legendary and having the badge next to my name was the reward, just like a legendary weapon or the legendary backpiece was the goal for others, so I’m sure you can imagine how it feels like to me, for it to be taken away in the middle of the season like this, like all the hard work I put in was for nothing.

I’ve waited for this since PvP badges were implemented. Thanks.
Also, would be nice to hide the titles in WvW squads. They are usually hidden, but if you join a squad they are visible again and the screen turns to kitten.
Just make it a client side display toggle. Best of both worlds.

Or this^ You can implement something after 1 comment by a twitch streamer to move the position of “make inventory compact” button so please, do something similar for PvP badges.

Guess it is time I came back to try out the tracks and other changes. It would be nice to be able to show your rank to everyone in WvW, but I’ll settle.
Thanks guys!

Very sad to hear…
PvP players like to show off their achievements as much as a PvE player or WvW player.
Maybe the next logical step would be to remove PvE legendaries from WvW and PvP? All those effects would surely add to “visual clutter” would it not?
If it was a nameplate issue, I honestly don’t get it when we have titles that are longer than the name + badge combined.
….. And Elementalist.

this change is not appreciated. You talk much of trying bringing people in pvp, and wvw is one step before the competitive pvp for the new players, so why hide the title showing pvp partecipation? Does it creates too much sense of inferiority or discrimination on those who couldnt get trough emerald?
I think hiding something that should make players proud of its a bad thing.
At least make it as an option…
Players already complained about how long the WvW nameplates were before they added the spvp badges, Removing these badges was a small step in the right direction. If you need some cosmetic to show off how pro you are in spvp, wear the back piece.
P.s Or let me show my completely useless WvW rank that I’m oh so proud of off in SPvP and PvE so I can clutter the screen everywhere I go.

is not the same thing. First of all, to make that backpack you dont need to get legendary rank. Second, most of the “pro” dont even bother to farm gold to make that back (me included)
I want wvw badges :/
Just the WvW

Except that you don’t ever need to reach legendary division to make the backpiece, and it was never about skill, reaching legendary doesn’t mean kitten for skill; just that for some people the badge was our sense of reward and to take it away in the middle of a current season is unacceptable. Anet should’ve had the foresight to realize adding badges to already long nameplates was a bad idea since like you said, people were complaining even before the introduction of leagues and never put badges in WvW in the first place, or at least wait until start of season 4 before implementing this change, so that people don’t feel hard done by for all that time wasted.

To the detriment of those who worked hard towards a goal, where is our sense of justice?
In my opinion, this is not fair. WvW is my main part in gw2 and as a new player in pvp i tried to solo rank for the last 3 weeks. I understand the reason to hide it, especially in big zerg fights to minimize visual clutter…
Could you not just implement something like mouseover or if you click a Character?
It’s like working hard for a legendary and at the end everyone else sees a default skin… :/

Exactly my poiny, I too play almost exclusively WvW and PvP, but WvW is my main enjoyment, and the funny thing is legendary weapons/effects/shiny skins do far more in terms of adding “visual clutter” than a badge next to your name which only your own server can see.

Probably sitting in the same place mine was when I got to see all these tournament icons in WvW when my rank was hidden; in WvW. I can feel your pain, but I never went into PvP expecting to show off my WvW rank there, so coming into WvW or PvE to show your league rank makes little sense.
That said they could have waited until the end of this tournament, but at least it has been done.

Well, so we also could remove all pvp/wvw-titels in pve because why should you show them there? If you reach something, you want to show it off. I understand the reason but i do not understand the way its done.

That would be fine, as would adding an option to “turn off” all of the clutter. My problem was with the inability to have any control over what it is I was being shown. It has been remedied to my satisfaction, but I am sure others would rather an option to turn it off and on.
i don’t like this change as it was my main incentive of wanting to play spvp. yet, im still waiting to be able to differentiate between who is in my subgroup in a squad and who is not. that would have been something i could appreciate.
Anet always had a carebear attitude towards the weak and underachieving, to the detriment of the WvW community. Remember how guard stacks got removed cos pve’ers cried about 250 ranks being unachievable? Most likely this change was made to keep pve’ers from feeling overwhelmed and intimidated by players who actually dedicated themselves and worked hard towards a goal.
Rank 4.5k+ WvW, 190k+ WvW kills, 12k~ Hours playtime.

So I sincerely hope this is a bug: go into WvW press alt and you will see that you can no longer see your league badge next to your name, nor anyone else’s, but you can see them fine in PvP and PvE.
This is a good change IMO.

Yeah, who needs prestige anyways. Only a good game would have that. Silly, Anet. Wouldn’t want those poor sapphires to feel bad walking around with their kittenty badge next to a legend or something. We all need to feel like beautiful happy teletubbies.
Just another example of how this game’s a joke. Where anything achieved ends up being meaningless. Where no one can show any sense of mastery because this game caters to children.

Agreed.
I find it extremely silly that your PvP prestige emblem is now disabled in every single PvP mode.
Man, the salt runs deep here.
They really never had any value in wvw, so they are by definition visual clutter. It was a tiny bit of clutter though, so if they’d stayed, i can’t imagine anyone really caring anyway.
For people who made a point of getting the badge to show it off in wvw…. I mean, first, you’re not the one looking at it, and second, it brought you no prestige nor did it strike any fear into the hearts of your enemies.
A high rank maybe gave a sense of skill when they were first released, but now it’s just like a dragon finisher… something practically anyone could grind for if they actually wanted it..

I can see why are all those “this system is kitten I stuck in Sapphire” guys being happy about this change but honestly, I got titles from all 3 seasons and I seriously don’t give a kitten if it would show on WvW or PvE since solo purpose of getting those was to get better. And to tell the truth, last two seasons were just cheese and ez-pz enough to tell badges don’t mean anything. I have seen WvW roamers much more skilled and superior to some legendary players that like to boast in HoTM. I’d even say it’s like running around shiny legendary skins, merely cool achievement but doesn’t actually tell you anything about players skill.
If you really want to show off in wvw be a good player and people notice. I don’t look at a persons rank and title and be like “wow he must be good.” Real wvw and pvp talent isn’t shown as some little symbol next to your name. You worked hard I know, but if you did all that work thinking the badge will earn respect you are sadly mistaken. If you are good at what you do people notice and respect you. Pvp and wvw to get good, not to have a little symbol that you think shows everyone else you’re good because it doesn’t. I’ve seen legendary ranked players lose to bronze invaders and I’ve seen gold ranked wvw players throw paper siege to defend.
If you want to impress people be a good player.

It’s clutter that isn’t needed in WvW.
I never said anywhere that it was about skill or impressing other people, getting legendary is not impressive at all because the amount of time you have to do it lets even the most average of players reach it. I believe that in order for legendary to truly mean something the length of time of seasons should be reduced to 2 weeks (and this is coming from a WvW player, if you’d ask the pros they would probably say 1 week); that or add more tiers of badges to distinguish between legendary prestiges.
As I already said in previous posts for me it was only about a sense of achievement and an aesthetic reason. I am in a top tier GvG guild, have ultimate dominator, and have nearly 5k WvW ranks so there is nothing more to be had on that front, I can only look towards PvP for a greater sense of achievement. I am not a hardcore PvP’er by any means, 2.5k games played in PvP overall, so I take pride (as a WvW player) in the fact that I am able to reach legendary despite not being a hardcore PvP player. Did I get better as a player because of it? Absolutely. But ultimately WvW is where I spend the most of my time and WvW is where I have truly dedicated myself to improving as a player and within a team, and I liked the feeling of being able to show off my achievements to other WvW players, not because it means I am automatically more skilled than they are (WvW and PvP are completely different game modes so being good in PvP does not make me good in WvW by default); nor do I want to impress other people because like I said, reaching legendary is nothing special due to the huge amount of time that you have to do it in.
At the end of the day it feels like all my hard work was for nothing, since I have nothing to show for it.

I’m not trying to say it isn’t something worth achieving. But in wvw the people around you are already lost in a sea of names and titles. We all have things we are proud of. But if it gets in the way it shouldn’t be there. Honestly enemy server names shouldn’t be spelled out considering how long some of them are. It should just be fc or sos or tc exc. it is nearly impossible to count how many people you have of you aren’t in a squad and how many the enemy has when all the names are so long they run together. Gameplay is more important than looks

And I agree with you, as I said above xD I already said the exact same thing to somebody else but I’ll say it again: Certain things like legendary weapons and legendary backpiece are visible from a mile away, and they add far more visual clutter to the game than a black badge which only your own server can see.
The only problem I have is that Anet decided to delete badges in the middle of a season, instead of never implementing it in the first place or waiting until start of season 4. So everybody who PvP’ed for the sole purpose of getting the badge for this season had their effort wasted.
At the end of the day it feels like all my hard work was for nothing, since I have nothing to show for it.
You can only display it to the beginning of the next season and if they change ranked pvp next year as I think they will then you may not show it at all.

Yea, and I was happy to get legend each season (except season 1 because I didn’t want to be associated with mmr tanking) and in each and every subsequent season. It might sound crazy to spend 3-4 weeks getting something which you only get to keep for a further 2 months, only to have to repeat the process again and again, but that’s me and a lot of other WvW players that I know.
