Q:

Why is siege soulbound to one character instead of account bound? I tried using siege I had acquired from jumping puzzles on my other character and I was surprised they weren’t usable.

Doesn’t bother me much but I just would like to have them stacked in one stack on my bank and use on whichever character I would be currently doing WvWvW with.

Some reasons to why it should be account bound instead of soulbound:

  • You can transfer money from character to character to obtain siege.
  • You can transfer badges from character to character to obtain siege
  • You can drop blueprints for anyone to pickup

It just seems logical to have them account bound instead.

So if you want to play a different character in WvW you can then use any blue prints that were purchased/acquired on another character. Seems logical to me.

I’m not asking it to be account bound. Asking the reason for why it is made soulbound.

I can transfer money and get siege on any character.
I can transfer badges and get siege on any character.
I can place the siege on whichever character I have it on and hop to the character I want to be playing and use the siege I placed on my other character.

That is the reason I am asking why are they just not account wide instead of soulbound to one character.

It shouldn’t be bound PERIOD because you can put blueprints on the floor for someone else to pick up.

Strange beat me too it but he’s right. If you take out siege as if you are about to deploy it and weaponswap (or die) it drops and anybody can pick it up like a bundle and its now theirs. I’ve actually stolen a few ram blueprints from invaders this way because they died with their hands full of blueprint. So if you really really want to transfer the prints to another character you could find someone you trust. go to an out of the way corner of the borderlands and drop your blueprints for them to hold and then repeate the proccess in reverse for your alt. Still there is really no need for them to be soulbound IMO and not sure why they are.

Hrmm did not know that. That actually makes it even more illogical for them to be soulboud.

Agreed. I got some siege on one character the other day, and was disappointed to find that I couldn’t trade it to my more dedicated WvW character, who didn’t have the money at the time.

Terrible Idea. Do you have any idea how rapidly the economy would inflate without these things. People would be selling full CoF sets for about 2g right now. I can not even imagine the effects this would have on the over-all economy but i know it would be terrible.

I can see the utility of this system as far as crafting. If everything was tradeable, any suit of armor created would stay in the system forever, and that’s one less armor suit that will need made. Eventually over the life of the game, there will be piles of the things on the TP selling for pennies from people 10 steps removed from the person who actually spent the time and money creating them.

Now, removing soulbind/bind-on-whatever and adding an item decay system, that would work I think (coupled with a large reduction in the cost to make items).

Because you could endlessly create new characters, join WWW matches, complete the puzzle, receive blueprints, bank them, log out, and delete the character.

Nef… judging by that i take it you dont know blueprints can be dropped and picked up. I could port 10 people with my mesmer to the end of the puzzle in EB. 30s later 2 seige equipment. They drop it, i pick it up. Repeat until i got 50+ siege golems in my bank. What does it take for me to do this? 10 people willing to bring all their alts to me over the course of 30minutes or so.

So. 10 people, 5 characters = 100 siege items collected and given to 1 person in 30minutes. Actually, now that is on paper it is appealing. lol.

Though i dont want dropped blueprint thing changed, just the other day i stole an enemy blueprint. They clicked to get the blueprint in their hand, we killed them before they could do anything, blueprint dropped to floor. I jumped out keep and stole their seige item

Only time ever seen it happen but my god it was fun

Involving dozens of other people takes a lot more effort than repeatedly grinding something yourself. If you can convince a whole bunch of people to just give you their blueprints, I don’t see it as much different than asking them to just send you the money to buy it from the vendor.

Also, I suspect the blueprint-dropping is either a bug or an oversight that will be corrected, and yes, I was already aware of it.

The difference is that doing it yourself via new characters circumvents the 24 hour limit on chest opening, but having them be soulbound prevents it.

find me an ungeared, lvl2 character that can get to the chests when they are camped

Deso constantly camp teh puzzles through the night, but come 2300 I have camped them from it for hours if I just want to relax and farm badges :P

You don’t need to get to every chest. Just your homeworld’s borderlands one. Any of the other 3, unless your server is very much in power, would likely not be worth the time. Camping is not relevant to the discussion in any case.
