I’ve tried few my new characters at WvWvW and there were few moments fighting with some thiefs, which killed ppl pretty fast. I have my own thief and after few death checked combat log and saw: steal, cloack and dagger skills hitting me for more than 6000 damage each. Relogged to my thief and went Mists to test thoose skills damage on dummies with maxed damage build > hitting like 2000+ only…

So to be clear: are thoose ppl cheating and how should I report them or it’s just so bad lvl scaling mechanics or anything else I’ve missed ?

I was playing an alt ranger, roughly lvl 16 at the time, the other day. I have approximately 18k hp. As per combat log, I was hit by Cloak and Dagger for 8k+ and successively by backstab for 13.4k. These both happened before the thief even rendered out of stealth.

It seems to me the complete lack of toughness on low level gear (usually) and poor armor scaling would be the culprit (thief’s OP burst aside). I have since purchased quite a bit of toughness gear for my ranger while I level him. I haven’t played WvW much since, so I haven’t run into quite as much of a burst situation.

It’s a class issue.

I get hit for 12k backstabs regularly with a full yellow Invader set or better, and 30 Earth (Toughness) as an Elementalist.

You can also try to make thief and go to test it’s damage at mist – if someone hitting your lvl 80 12k backstab – that’s 100% cheating;)

It’s not cheating.

The level scaling bumps your stats up, but you will never be as powerful as a true level 80.

Here are a few examples why.
*You don’t have access to all your traits which can add a ton of points to your stats
*Your gear doesn’t add to three different stats (only available starting at level 60)

The reason your thief in the mists isn’t getting these outrageously high attack numbers is because the dummies you are fighting actually have better stats than a level 16 player in WvW. You can’t get an accurate measure on what your attacks can do when you by comparing those two like that.

Thieves may or may not need to be tuned down a bit, but the correct way to balance something like this is with actual level 80 characters.

This is coming from someone whose thief is only level 22, but I have a few other level 80 characters, and I may or may not level him to 80.

dummies have lower stats than any player or npc( lvl 80 ofc) ,especially light ones. I don’t have problems with all thiefs, just with few ones. I took a look at combat log after fight because he was killing 3-5 of us solo with few hits. I also have lvl 80, but i’ve never done 3x+ ( increased – yes , but not so much increased) damage on WvWvW; maybe never met lowlvl players there in fights. Also tried damage formula on wiki, but it’s only 1.5x or 2x (with fully geared heavy exotics and traits) difference depending on armor.
Still waiting for answer….
