Quantity > Quality
Its a tough situation, blobbing has been an unchecked problem in wvw for a very long time, and unfortunately its more of a numbers game, rather then skills. Fair fights, or even normal sized fights are hard to find sometimes in wvw. And this drives away many talented players who just cant stand it anymore, everywhere they go they run into a 60man blob, your not the only one.
Honesty is not insulting, stupidity is.

Quality > Quantity.
Yesterday on SFR I alone recapped bay twice and trashed it’s supply completely. A zerg of 20-30 people back at the time was recapping it from me and me alone. Third time they bothered to leave scouts(I’ve killed one :P), so after hiding for a while I had to leave.
Aside from that I’ve won plenty outnumbered fights like 5 to 15 simply because our havoc squad was skilled and ambushed unsuspecting foes in the back.
10 vs 40 may be too low, but I could show you plenty of videos of 25 vs 70+
Hardcore =/= skill, I’m sorry to say this, but if you have trouble wiping blobs with a 40+ man blob of your own, you may want to work on the quality before blaming quantity.
It is not what you do, but how and why you do it that counts.

OP said they had group of 10 constantly running into 40. And if OP is who I think it is, the other 40 are 2 guild groups running together on the side that doesn’t belong in t3. They have every right to do that of course – just don’t be surprised to find less and less people to fight as a week wears on.
Edit: well maybe I don’t understand what you are saying as you mention 10v40 and then end with OP having 40. No worries if I misunderstood you.

What makes you think 10 people are supposed to be able to take on 40? Your problem is trying to do something you are clearly not capable of doing.
Oh and I’ve seen plenty of small groups wipe larger groups.
If 10 people are to down 40, that pretty much assume at least 20 die within seconds of the first engagement. Very unlikely unless those 40 is a random blob of upscaled players that flee as soon as someone drop and the 10 is an extremely well coordinated guild. Not impossible, but unlikely.
So not really sure why this is a “problem”. Quantity win over quality in warfare, sooner or later. Even in defeat after defeat, quantity often wins in the end. Look at any war. Its just a matter of more.
When we’re talking more reasonable “outmanned” numbers such as 10 vs 15 of two well coordinated guild groups, quality can most definetly start to win over quantity. Just the first few going down will tip the scale of power considerably, especially if they are a core part of the group. I have seen plenty of small guild groups smash into larger blobs and come out victorious, but still… 10 vs 40 is going to be a challenge, especially if we assume similar quality.

Welp. I’m on HoD. I’ve been commanding borderland defense for a while.
IoJ held our hills for 2 days and upgraded it to a full T3. We finally took it back today after 3 golem rushes and 15 of my omegas.
Then everyone left. Within 25 minutes, a guild group from CD rolled in and flipped our entire borderlands blue. All-calls were sent. I asked if anyone was in map, 2 people answered. My last refuge was garri, manning an arrow cart alone on inner garri trying to stop them from taking it. I didn’t.
I spent 17 hours in our BL today working it back to full fortification. 17 hours. It was gone in 30 minutes.
I’ve come to the conclusion that I should probably just leave everything paper, wait for everything to flip, then flip it back. At least then I won’t be down a hundred gold and 17 hours of wasted time, and I’ll get champ bags and WXP.
This is why I logged off when I watched the last keep flip. This is why I’m now posting here before I head off to bed. I’m simply completely and utterly spent, and after all the effort and gold put into defending our BL, I’m not doing it again tomorrow. This has happened 2 days in a row now, and I’m sick of it.
Welcome to my world.

Nice, but it is pretty safe to say that everybody in this current match up between SFR, RS and Deso is slacking. Desolation for sure isn’t playing in full force. The points don’t matter outside the leagues, so why play seriously all the time? Capping objectives gives much more WXP than defending them. So just put on your tag, make WXP train with few PuGs and get your bags full of loot and 5 WXP ranks in 2 hours. If enemy comes to flip your objectives with a blob (SFR style), then just wait a bit and capture them back and you get even more WXP. This game makes capturing things much more rewarding than defense.
I guess you are playing a thief and hiding as a thief is far from being pro. I consider perma stealth as a broken mechanism in this game. Stealth should have a maximum duration of about 8 seconds.
The solo caps happen on every server and I am glad that SFR is also doing that. I have today and yesterday also started alone ramming down the gate and we gotten enemy keeps very easy with just few guys. We even captured enemy Garrison while being outnumbered on that enemy borderland. In fact big part of our keep captures while I was commanding today happened under the outnumbered “buff”, meaning that SFR and RS have bigger numbers on that map, but don’t care about defense or defend too late. I know that both SFR and RS have the capability to defend very well. So my whole point is: these recent weeks, when almost everybody is slacking in EU tier 1, aren’t a very good indication of anything.
I wish nice weather and holidays for everybody! Time to have a break of this game very soon (just waiting for my visa to start my trip).

Sorry to do that to you, that was us. We’ll probably cool off that pvd a bit rest of week once we feel our glicko is safe. Hopefully you still do what you do. It’s a thankless job upgrading and supporting sieges. Funny thing is we actually saw you and called it out. “We got a hero going to an ac.”

Please be quiet so this thread doesn’t get locked due to match up threads. Everything you post has to involve deso somehow, just stay on topic and don’t get the thread locked..

From a certain home bl defense maniac from CD.
Funny thing is that u dont get kitten from being first. 6(?) extra chests of garbage. Someone that doesn’t know better might thing that people will get awesome rewards for being first on that week’s match-up.
Old Old video outmanned vs a few FA zergs. Quantity matter more for the ppt race, but everywhere esle it is about quality upto a point. A guild should be able to wipe a militia/unorganized group twice its size. Once the enemy group start to get 3 time your size you need to surprise attack first to win. Chances are that will not happen.

The issue with this quantity vs quality argument, is that everyone here thinks they are the highest quality bamf since gijoe. And everyone else they face are buncha no skill blobs.

we cannot overcome the sheer amounts of players on the other team going around with a group of 40+ .
There are too many variables to say this for certain. Smaller groups can often bust PUG zergs with hardened builds and veteran GvG players. I run a pretty solid warrior build and I cannot wade into the zergs the way that some GvG groups on Mag do. They have 10-15 and will run right through a big pug zerg not losing a soul.
As for fortifications, the masters of defense (YB) have it down pretty well. Lots of ACs and cover siege but most importantly they can rally a PUG force that is effective under siege fire. Without the ability to call in reinforcements when a keep is under attack, eventually a more populated server will grind you down. They also excel at keeping their siege refreshed. If a small force is building siege rather than firing it when a larger one shows up, the fight is pretty much over before it starts.
