Question for you wvw players
You’re asking about this? https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wuv/ANET-REDDIT-How-WVW-Will-DIE-From-Colin/first#post5812644
I didn’t see that before making this post. Oh well can you give me your opinions on the matter? Will this make wvw more accesible for people who don’t already play it?
No, all it will do for them is close any way to enjoy it in an organized environment.
After this change, you have to join a wvw-focused guild to enjoy the same organization you can have now on “wvw oriented servers”, where players are using TS, guilds are cooperating with each other, having fun together.
And as it has a 100 man cap for each guild, the “we must win!” folks will see you as a noob and will accept you only if you can play in a style which fits their vision, while the “let’s play for fun” guilds will not spend so many “resources” (gold, time, $$) for wvw to fully enjoy the “oldschool” wvw.
Transferring isn’t a money problem for pve-players, only for wvw players (you can farm 1-3 days in pve and transfer without any $$ only by buying gems with gold), if someone want to move to a higher pop server which suits his/her playstyle more, (s)he can do it now.
Lower-pop servers have/had their own lifestyle, which is either good for you or not, but the answer is never taking away something from the players, it should be giving more choices to them, and as I see it now, the low-pop servers will be in a bad shape after the possible changes.
IF you trust anet’s MatchMaking, maybe there’s a little hope for less-populated matchups, but dunno if it’s the same fun for them or not. (I never was on low-pop servers, I liked to fight in 15-50 man raids, and even while scouting/roaming, liked the chance to encounter a 80 man blob, reporting it to our mapjump then watching them get rekt )
It is unlikely you find any wvw players who think current system is perfect. Yet, this is what we have and most have adapted.
As about the question if you should pay gems to transfer to other server… I have never done that myself and I am still in last tier server. Not that years ago when I picked the server, I had any idea what wvw was or how were servers different. Things is, whatever you think perfect wvw is, the server you transfer to is probably different. Top tier servers could have queues so you still can not play, or they could run huge boring blobs around in empty maps.
Perhaps, it is better to try find a guild first. With wvw guild even the lower tier matches can be fun. Or if most of your guilds are in different server, you at least have some idea what the situation is there.
To your original question, transfer to T1 is my suggestion. There are always people on the maps and while matches can get a bit out of hand the fighting is usually fun. JQ is currently dominating as they have the best coverage by far but both BG and YB have players on the maps most of the time. Yes it does cost gems (money or time) but worth it IMO.
As for the possible change to WvW: Anyone that tells you how it is going to work out before they hear an actual verified detail is talking out their rear. It sounds good to me on paper but nobody knows how it will pan out at this point and that assumes the rumor is true.

what’s a Karma Train?
what’s a Karma Train?
Short answer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vIoGp3R7ZI
Longer Answer:
During the old days, ppl were in need of karma (lol), and were capping keeps (counter)clockwise, so all 3 servers could “maximize” the income of karma (lol).
Without WXP, all it was good for is karma, so ppl called it Karmatrain, and the name remained even if none needs karma anymore.
what’s a Karma Train?
It is when a group of players known as a zerg take objectives as fast as possible to generate karma, experience, item drops, etc. Here is the K-Train music video:

Oh, totally missed your post, yeah… that sounds bad, not what server vs server battles should look like … I thought they called kt to those random spontaneously groups that formed to cap random keeps one after another until some resistance was found (trains clashing?)

Yes, nowadays ppl are calling “ktrain” every zerg/blob which just “pvd”, player-vs-doors, fights only npcs, empty keeps, running away from fights… basically just saying ktrain for those zergs which are like the “old”, fixed trains.. tho they were more frequent during fridays, when the matchup was already decided and none wanted to defend.. so ppl farmed some while relaxing.

My opinion is that K-Training can be a healthy aspect of WvW. K-Trains bring new players into WvW and teach them the basics in a low stress manner. K-Trains help fund WvW play which can be costly if all a player does is fight other players. K-Trains are pallet cleansers after particularly long sieges. K-Trains often call out other servers and start big fights.
K-Trains to me are only problematic when that is all there is to do. If they squeeze in between great fights, inspire PvE players to join WvW, put some coin in hard-core WvW player pockets and are spur good fights between large groups of players they are most certainly a good thing.

Nowadays, zergs just baghunting each other. I rarely now play WvW since it is all about baghunting.

I see it as the only way for pure WvW players to keep up with material acquisition.

If they made the game mode self sustainable we would not have to spend our time avoiding capping keeps to make bag farms next to their spawn and could focus more on just playing and enjoying the mode. If they made it so everything you needed to play wvw was obtainable easily by just playing wvw it would shift the focus from just creating a bag farm in enemy keeps ( which yes that is boring as well ) to being about playing the game mode and having fun fights.
WvW / PVP ONLY

It is and that is the problem. They need to make wvw a self sustaining game mode so that everything needed to play wvw is obtainable easily just from playing wvw. The guild upgrades, armor, consumables such as siege, food and utilities. everything needed to play wvw should be able to be obtained just from playing the mode so we do not have to focus on bag farms just so players can play the mode at all.

lol, i was in the same boat as stambo when I first started playing. I was use to playing a game where people actually fought to own something and once u owned it.. you defended it to the death. I logged into eotm and saw a karma train for the first time and said “are we not going to defend our keep, it has reds in it?” ofc, all i got was snark remarks about changing overflows if I wanted to play that way, lol. I called the people carebears and asked why they didn’t just play hello kitty online then.
Now you see the selfish gvg’s and baghunting as many people post. I don’t get that either. Your servermates worked hard to acquire something and you just let it slide away to show your guild (from your server) is better than their guild (from their server) yet they just beat you because you lost objectives from your server even if you won the gvg.
And bags? what is honestly good in a bag? anything?
I don’t even know what I get from those things since i just rapidly click through them, hit deposit all, and never look until my bank is full and stuff is not depositing, sell on tp, repeat.
wvw is dying and anet is having a hard time plugging the wound
people just generally quit caring because they expect so little from devs but a few good wvw guilds still play for their server. If you can find one of those, you will get it and it will be worth playing still.

That’s the one thing keeping out of WvW right now and I’m not overly particular. I had first decided to go all out on the expansion to help with guild materials. I gave up on that, sorry guild, I just can’t afford it with the amount of time I get to play. I had bought GW2 initially for the idea of having an open world pvp zone to live in and I do enjoy it when there’s action, but it’s not a game mode at this point, it’s been reduced to a large meta event that may or may not happen any given day. They should just scrap it and give us an open world pvp instance of the pve maps and let us make a mess then tweak what’s needed as things move forward.
