Reset Time Change Please
They changed back reset to the time most players wanted.
No. Just no. No way.
They changed back reset to the time most players wanted.
It’s 10pm est which is really late. I think everyone asked for Friday night 9pm est an hour early reset. Thus reset time is really late for most est players
With the upcoming scoring changes, time spent in the beginning hours after a reset won’t matter as much, and perhaps the last few hours of the weekly matchup may make more of a difference if the scoring is close. So, hang on for now, we’re still in Beta…
I’m happy with change back of the reset time. I’m in EST and its certainly not to late for me. We all have different schedules and its unfortunate that its to late for you, but based on the queues being seen on most maps for reset, I’d say the time is about perfect.
They changed back reset to the time most players wanted.
No they didn’t, they changed the day not the time that players wanted, 10pm est was convenient to Anet. Most players wanted it at 8/9pm est like the old days.
They didn’t want to put it at that time again because they had patches that interrupt that time period. Anet apparently can’t put patches in an hour earlier, they wait until end of the day of end of the week to put out a patch.

I have barely seen patches coming out on Friday since the launch of hot or pre hot. So I don’t know what’s the problem with an hour early reset.

Not so much about the scoring it’s mainly abut being able to play reset and enjoy it for more than 10 minutes.

I think its a bit premature to say ‘most’ people since 86 total have voted.
Don’t get me wrong, I’d be ok if they moved the reset time back an hour or two, but just like you, it would only be convenience for me but perhaps make others west of us unhappy.
Just remember that on reset night there are usually queues on all 4 maps, even in T4, and on some servers it may even take you an hour to get in to play. So on top of losing an hour by starting at 10 you’re losing time in the queue too, for some people that ain’t much time to play. Mind you for a Friday night more players tend to stay up an extra hour or two. Also not a good idea to line up west coast in the reset time when there’s already queues from the east coast, although those usually taper off by midnight on lower servers anyways.

Oh you are from the west… I mean you are from West you shouldn’t be complaining because your argument is completely irrelevant not to sound rude. I know 6pm pst is rush hour in California but that’s not the time I expect you guys to sleep. 10pm est gets pretty late for East Coast players and if you work on weekends I expect most of us to get in bed around 10:30 or 11ishpm. Where if you are on West coast you still have the whole kittening night play.
Reminder: WvW deliberately doesn’t obey Daylight Savings Time changes.
Reset times in NA are currently 7pm/10pm PDT/EDT.
On November 6th, when US time zones (those that obey DST) resume their “Standard” times, it will look like 6pm/9pm PST/EST.
Or, more tersely, it is always 2am UTC year-round.
Extra note: I had to review this post about three times to get it all right. For being simple offsets, it’s amazingly easy to mess up timezone math.

But if you make it an hour early with the daylight savings it would 8pm est ;-; more time for us est players to play. So basically with the current time the people who can’t play rn will only be able to play reset every 6 months? I think most people want that old 8pm/9pm est reset time.

Which is 5pm PST. Too early for those living on the West Coast.
Unless our internal R&D project is successful— flattening the Earth so there’s only one sunrise/sunset for everyone— there is no time which exists that will please everyone.

Last time I checked most of the people on NA live on the east coast? If it’s too early for the west coast people it doesn’t really matter because they still have the whole night to enjoy it. Back when the reset was 8pm/9pm est I didn’t really see anyone complaining about it.
(edited by CrimeMaker.8612)
How about they just make reset to be 3am/6 am pdt/edt so it becomes 2am and 5am respectively and then everyone can be unhappy about it but as you say crime maker they will have the whole day to enjoy it so it will be fine
Reset always has been 8pm est, there was no reason to change it. With reset back to how it was or at LEAST at 9pm est, several guilds that are est will be able to play reset again. If reset can be back to how it was, the argument that it is too early for pst is invalid is because regardless of that time, pst people can still play reset! For est people it is just too late.
Chris, please punish all these whiney-kitten kittenes by making reset occur at a random time between noon and midnight EST.
Difficulty with timezone math aside (we all lean on maps and such for that... or just get it wrong).
Chris is right. Not obeying daylight savings, and using 7PM or 6PM PST as the benchmark is the correct thing to do. Even if it’s an unpopular thing, particularly among east coast NA players interested enough to rally for votes.
Time is a fluid thing, afterall. I’m in Central timezone NA, usually sleep through “NA prime time” to the start of OCX (that means I wake up at about 3AM), and yet I play Friday Reset at 9PM along with my Aussie and Kiwi friends who do that for their Saturday afternoon.
Get over yourselves, east coast.

Are you guys trying to get west coast to play with east coast for reset? because there’s queues on every server on reset night just from the east coast, I don’t see the point of that.
By the time the queues starts to die down for the east coast around 12 it’s 9 for the west coast and they have another 3 hours to cover, meanwhile it’s the east coast that lost an hour of play time and maybe more since they have to deal with the bulk of the queue times as well.

1PM EST Wednesday, so that Asia and Oceania will be asleep, while NA will be at work. We all know Europe actually prefers their regional servers.
There will be no queues at reset!

I think it would be for the best if reset happened right after I’m home from work and had a bite to eat, but way before those creepers on the west coast have a chance to compete with me for slots.
So I’m encouraging East Coasters to vote early, vote often in this poll. Down with Pacific Time.

No, I said I was in the East in an earlier post. I also said that 10pm is hardly to late for me. The point of my post was what convenient for you or me will probably be an inconvenience for someone else.
6pm PST really isn’t that early on Friday. With the current 7/10pm reset, my guild and I end up just sitting around for over an hour while we wait for reset :/

Ten may not be late for you but some people have to work on Saturdays. If they end up hitting an hour+ queue they’ll likely miss reset all together.
For someone on the west coast this isn’t that big a deal. They get home, see there is a queue, make some dinner (possibly queue up), hop in the game and enjoy several hours of reset.
Basically the argument is by moving the time they might cause some people to miss the first hour of reset, but by keeping it as is they are causing players to miss reset all together.
All US people,
Petition your representative to support the removal of that bane of modern civilization: daylight savings time. It is a highly dangerous practice that needs to be stopped. Sleep deprivation is a real problem.

The problem I see for West Coast making reset at 5pm is that a large number of us West coast will end up spending our first few hours of reset waiting in Queues to get to play because we cant get on until after everyone has hit a map. So RIP running with your guild group for the first 2-3 hours of reset. I am for making it 6pm year west coast time year round.

Why would a later time for reset help the west coast? This will give everyone another hour to enjoy prime time on reset.

I guess I’m an anomaly, b/c I live on the West Coast and 5pm pst reset sounds better to me…7pm pst reset is kind of late IMO.

Some people on the west coast work until 5 or 6. When that happens, we probably have at least 30 minutes to get home, meaning we’re home by 5:30 or 6:30, being generous. Can’t enjoy that extra hour of reset if we’re not able to be here for it.2

NA people who need to sleep near 10PM on Friday, to work on Saturday, simply don’t get to play Friday reset. That’s it. Sorry.
I don’t wake up at 3AM to play OCX only because I want to play OCX. I do it because I occasionally clock in to work at 4:30AM.

Queues don’t disappear for two to three hours. If by enjoying the night you mean watching Netflix for a couple of hours and having practically all interest in playing dead by the time you log in, then yeah, reset night is great.
That said, I am all for starting earlier. People who actually have fun on reset night can play an hour more. It will be completely pointless to try to make reset night for me. I have my Friday back and just go out and do something that actually is fun. A win/win situation.
Reset time could change with daylight savings? Problem solved?
Honestly though, I live on the East coast too, and I hardly ever see reset because it doesn’t start until after est prime. I think there would be more sympathy from Arenanet of they weren’t based on the opposite coast of the region of issue here.

Gotta agree, I’m a west coaster and I’d rather have my fellow east coasters have the same gaming experience I get reset night. Kinda not fair to them that we get to enjoy several hours and the East gets shafted.

I don’t understand the anti-daylight savings crusade. I look forward to it every year. And dread going back to standard time because it gets dark so early.
If people simply don’t like the act of it changing I’d be much more in favor of leaving it at Daylight time and scrapping Standard.

Chris, Anet’s logic is flawed as Frick on this? For starters, 1 hour earlier worked for over 3 years. Reset time was never on the table of WvW issues until a Dev changed it and made it so.
Here’s a logical question for the discussion, does PST follow EST? If so, shouldn’t players in the PST time zone follow those of the EST time zone?
Next question, shouldn’t the largest player population be prioritized? If EST players are the largest population, shouldn’t they be given equal to or more time to play on reset? Heck, this whole “scoring” change BS is to make the largest time based population more importance. Thus, shouldn’t this also apply to Reset?
Here’s some numbers to highlight the issue.
Distribution of US Population by Time Zone:
Eastern 47%
Central 32.9%
Mountain 5.4%
Pacific 14.1%
A smart choice would be to not prioritize around 14.1%.
And, I’ll add this lovely photo from NASA as visual confirmation of population distribution in the U.S.
The tldr, Anet’s absolutely wrong on the topic and just making stuff up for whatever selfish reasons they have. Reset time changes have nothing to do with players, player preferences, or player QoL.

I’ve wondered that too. Even if they had to do it manually its only twice a year. “That it is always at the same time UTC” was always a lame excuse.
But if its the way it is to let the West Coasters to get home from work then that is at least a reason. But still too late for East Coasters. Guess we just gotta wait ’til fall.

You’re going to base population distribution on lights? Look at China…they have a lot fewer lights than the Eastern seaboard, yet we know they outnumber the entire NA & SA continents. Maybe China and the West Coast just run greener. I honestly don’t care one way or the other, just thought I’d point out a flaw in your light-based theory.
You’re going to base population distribution on lights?
btw…. where you see lights, those are the area’s most likely to have the infrastructure to run GW2 on. That’s why the Lights photo is good for illustrating potential player populations.
