Ranger, Engineer or Ele?
Elementalist is the best class in the game in that it’s the most versatile.
You can do staff zerg buster, support & healing, tanking, mobility roaming, there’s even a burst build.
Hi, I am leveling a ele in wvw atm. It’s quite fun with all the AOE. You could try staff with increased aoe area. Save a spot for mist so that u can turn invulnerable and get away. The rest go all aoe attacks. all staff AOE are 1200 range. With widen area, it’s very impressive.
If I remember correctly, only ranger longbow can get to 1500 with trait? Don’tknow about engineers.
Don’t waste a spot with mist form while surfing the Zerg. Feed the Zerg with might and aoe healing goodness.

Ranger and engineers are not all that useful in zerg fights (however the entangle is pretty kitten sexy to be honest when running a CC train), however if you are after a ranged class I would recommend an elementalist that uses staff. Elementalist does have a high damage AoE output from significant range but it does pay to have good reflexes.
Eles’s are probably one of the most useful classes in WvW, followed by warriors, necros and mesmers. Where they drop down a load of fields that can be used for mass buffing and mass CC’ing the opposition – guilds like TW do this really well because they run a lot of ele’s and so whenver we come up against them we have to use all of our stability so our heavies don’t get melted instantly.
I used to main ranger, its not all that good in WvW – great in sPvP and PvE though, so it really depends if you are going to go for WvW hardcore or be more PvX.
I love ranger Watch some of my videos for a ranger perspective on wvw.
Excellent replies, all, thanks. It seems Staff Ele is the consenus! I do enjoy my staff ele, but blast it, I sure do feel pretty squishy. I’ll look into that.
Thanks again!
Nothing wrong with a PVT staff ele Oyjord, try it out – you might be suprised. Karps plays one and kitten he hardly dies ever, even when with the commander tag on. You can still be useful and do a lot of damage with tank builds, its not like my warrior that if you run full PVT with hammer say goodbye to DPS – eles are pretty effective at what they do.

I’m old with poor reflexes as well (and I am a to some extent a clicker – somebody who clicks skills instead of hotkeying them) . Rangers are relatively weak in zergs as pet contributes a significant amount of damage and dies very quickly in medium to large scale events. They also got somewhat nerfed with this patch. They are fun to play.
Engineers are rarely seen but got buffed today.
You seem to be leaning towards a staff elementalist. It look like the way to go in temrs of effectiveness. They always desired as they offer nice support and can remove defenders and siege from walls.
Engineers can get to 1500 with grenades, but grenades are also not really for people with slower reflexes since you have to ground target and predict movement well, or at least know when to use them and know when to use another kit/weapon set. A staff necro could serve you well too though since they are much more focused towards tactical usage than direct fighting and you can stay on the outskirts of the battle, placing marks where you want to wreak havoc.

Depends your playstyle and which class mechanics feel most fun to play for you. I also have those 3 classes at level 80 in full exotics.
And which one I play depends on what playstyle I’m in the mood for (though I consider both my staff ele and my bunker rifle engi both as mains, I’ve played both since the 1st BWE and still can’t pick one over the other).
If I’m just going to zerg surf or play supportive (don’t forget to take a focus for destroying projectiles for example to protect your treb from countertrebs or viseversa) I bring out the ele, if I’m in the mood for roaming solo or small group for camp capping and small group battles I bring out the bunker engi and get in close combat.
Ranger is the most underwhelming of the three and I basically bring him out if I want to easymode pewpew from max range without too much effort.
Super helpful thread, thanks again all.
