ah well… as it is.. with changes to my Ranger it’s kicking butt better now… lots of fun.. a roamin we will go
When roaming the piercing from lead the wind becomes a lot less important, you should try mixing things up a bit. Most people run nature magic over marksmanship for the boon duration/pet sharing (especially to might stack your pet) and protective ward, but I’m a big fan of running skirmishing for quickdraw.
The nature magic version is very passive, easy and boring. The quickdraw version is a bit more high risk for greater rewards. If you are good with it you can troll the hell out of multiple players, win outnumbered fights and escape from bad situations.

Balth don’t listen to the BS. I have put up with it for years and would still put my condi ranger in the middle of a zerg fight and have to save the butts of the tanks. If you still get some flak look me up on the DR server or in LA (which I am usually at recruting for my guild havc) and I’ll give you a home. If your good with your build I don’t care what you play I’ll find you a spot.

Condition ranger
Zerg fight

WvW Rank 3800 (Platinum Veteran) – PvP Rank 69 (Shark) – 25,9k Achievment Points
Mërcenaries [Sold] – Ferguson’s Crossing
Lol you laugh Jek but it can be done. All you gotta do is use a little tactics and some imagination. Oh and a little bit of crazy never hurts.
Yep. Crazy helps.Try a condi trapper? Dang fun to play.

The offer is great and I appreciate it. But I do have a home here with the people I’ve run with for the last 3 years. It’s been a learning experience with these world linkings and completely different style of play. As it is I’ve settled back into mostly roaming either alone or small groups, and join a zerg when I’m bored or if one of my guilds is raiding.
Have fun!

ranger traps are pretty bad, the stacks are not enough and they get cleanse pretty fast. Even as roaming build the only advantage it has is the stealth is you rune for it.

IF well played the initial condi burst hurts alot, before we can clean, and after the panic face, and its quite mobile with some evades.
Just saw this thread and I’m not gonna read through 6 pages. I’ll just deal with the OP and one other I saw regarding rifle warrior.
First of all, OP said ranger, not druid.
It’s simple. Rangers have poor dps with little support. Most people in this game have no idea how to calculate dps. They think that just because the get a 20K hit on their longbow or the rifle warrior gets a 20K headshot means they have good dps. Wrong. Why? Because you’re only getting that 20K hit on one person. Odds are you won’t get piercing because if you’re doing damage that high, you’re too squishy to get close enough to the head where they’re all grouped up.
Now, a Reaper will typically drop marks, wells, then go into DS. All of those skills hit 5 people. When a well hits 5 people for 7 K, that’s a total of 35K damage. If a mark hits 5 people for 5K, that’s 25K damage. DS auto attack easily cleaves for 4K, DS2 and 4 does massive damage to lots of people. The same philosophy is true for a frontline ele. Overload skills hit a ton of people for less damage, but add them all up, and they easily beat 20K. I’d say my air overload on my frontline ele hits for about 3K. It strikes 48 times. Now, I admit I miss on some of those srikes, but if added all up, thats 144K damage. Then there’s fire and earth overloads. Same idea with most the staff aoe skills.
The point is, these other classes have much higher dps becuase they are pumping out more damage to more people than a ranger ever could.
Even a guardian, wielding a staff is doing great dps compared to a ranger. Laugh, you might, but a guardian is most likely hitting 5 people because the staff has 600 range with a 170 degree cleave. My forntline guard hits on average about 1200 k. That’s 6K. Staff 1 hits 2x per second. That’s 12K / second. That doesn’t include burns from VoJ. And I’m just talking about staff. I haven’t gotten into the GS burst. All the while, providing amazing support for my team providing constant might, stability, protection, fury, swiftness, aegis, tons of cleanses and constant heals.
Now, lets talk about your special skills. Pets are useless. They die instantly. So, no use there.
Support. Rangers have almost none.
So, you are basically better off playing another class that is actually contributing DPS and support than kitten rangers.
Now, Druids are actually pretty awesome. They do more healing than an ele, but their dps is still not as good. That’s the only drawback. If properly specced, they heal with almost every attack, and that trait where you drop a seed with every glyph is huge. Great support, medium dps. Not bad. Also, you have to play it frontline. Something that almost no pug does. Most pugs are roamers or selfish people that just want to see big numbers that still play pew pew and join a squad, so they still suck, but not nearly as much as a ranger.
Again, pretty much all of the above can be applied to a rifle warrior. A frontline warrior is smashing his hammer, hitting almost 5 people with every attack. His zerk attack does massive damage and CCs enemies. All the while having way more survivability and more team support than a zerk rifle warrior. So, kitten off!
Now, engis are great, and I don’t think they are getting the hate that the OP, or a few of the posters below are stating.
This is a TEAM pvp mode. A zerg is greater than the sum of it’s parts, but only when the parts actually contribute to eachother or to their role in an awesome way. Rangers and rifle warriors don’t do that. So yes, gtfo with your ranger. It has it’s part, but not in group combat.

Happy to hear that Wvw is doing awesome with player participation that you don’t need us rangers. You need to tell all those complaining that WvW is dead that they are wrong. It is so full of players we can exclude people who want to play and chase them away.
You’re playing ranger wrong, Ranger is druid now with staff (Staff actually does at least 80% of damage of LB, more on close range, and you dont have to face enemy, you just have to for first tick of the auto, so its more mobile).
It’s like someone playing longbow guardian when hammer rev does more damage/support. Longbow ranger is nono.
Now about gear, you must have perma 25 might (“guard!” + heal as one is easy to access this) with sigils of air and blood and have specced for beastmastery (pet easy way to pick off theives/eles) + druid. Now after that comes skirmishing/markmanship. Nature magic if you want more ress potential.
Also dolyak runes ofc so you can spam astral form every 10s…
Then about gear, the 10% healing effectiveness food ofc cuz druid heals dont scale that well on healing power rather than healing effectiveness. But after that take either Commander or Crusader stat armor. Your pet is still anyways 60% of your damage sogiving up 10% of your own damage for extra support and survivability isnt bad.
2ndary weapon, most likely greatsword or sword dagger should have prolly 10% healing effectiveness and you should swap to the weaponset before astral form.
Theres plenty of tricks to make druid useful but bad players dont realise it. Core rangers can disappear tho, STAFF DOES MORE DAMAGE AND DOESNT GET REFLECTED.
Then you need like 200 vitality so prolly 2 cele trinks and marauder staff cuts it
(pst: i guess another choice is going the healing regen food so you dont need dolyak runes. Monk, dura or str runes would be choice in this case, exspecially if you dont spec for naturemagic for extra boon duration)

Just run with a zerg until/if someone shoots you and invite. That’s how I do things… if they invite me and don’t see I’m a Ranger or Druid at the time then that’s on them. :P
Next time you see one of the ranger haters lying dead asking for a ress tell them you are a worthless ranger and just walk away.
That actually happened when I was playing my sword/warhorn / LB druid. We were in a 3v2 (think he was a thief or a rev, I cannot remember) and I was focused by at least 2 the whole time (non meta build…loved it). Gave him boons to help us but he downed first. I downed the one that was stomping him (mins you I was being focused by the other 2) and got the down/kill which ressed him, now a 2v2 and he runs off, leaving me in a 2v1 (which I won…barely) and I walked away (feeling kitteny may I add) to find him in a 1v1 (downed and being stomped by a shadow stomping daredevil).
Stopped his stomp and bursted him down and walked away while they had a downed fight that I knew my “partner” would lose.
He did lose and he cussed me out. It was then I called him out in map chat and he denied our 3v2 existed. Once I stated I had it recorded (druid build vid montage ftw) he blocked me and apparently started talking smack about me. I saw our servers responses that backed me up and he eventually left wvw.
*Edit Forgot to mention when he left the 3v2/2v2 he stated he cant fight beside a ranger/druid.
