Ranger or Warrior for WvWvW
absolutely ranger

I play war main and love it… but with the new map incoming… it favours ranged combat being so vertical.
If you like to get right in the fray and smash things, go war … if you like to kill wars who are half health in the fray, range them down. I hate ranger groups… as a warrior
absolutely ranger
Any build link?

I like both classes, ranger is obviously a lot safer since I know warrior is a melee and can easily be defeated if I get into big groups which is a big problem of melee classes
Warrior if you wanna afk middle of fight. Ranger if you wanna have fun.

If you do real WvW and not EoTM… and actually wanna be more useful of course warrior. Ranger can be fun at times, I only play it when Im tired and too lazy to think, pew pew. But really depends on what you like to do, if zerging go warrior if you can handle frontline otherwise ranger for lb sniping, if roaming/havok either is good
Honesty is not insulting, stupidity is.
>Class Balance is a Joke<
longbow ranger, press 2 to win.
not even joking, i can demonstrate to you how you can press 2 to win against any class out there except thief.
sure warrior is more of a group fighter.
I play a might stacking melee ranger (somewhat, axes still have 900 range). I dropped bows entirely. Really fun to roam with, lots of tricky skill play. Non-LB condi and regen Rangers can also be pretty difficult to face (my Ranger in pvp is a trapper and absolutely melts people). I’ve never made a regen ranger, but I’ve gone up against them. Nasty stuff. Basically dual SotW (traited for Enlargement) and Troll Unguent on constant rotation with high healing power (generally a mixture of Cleric’s).
I kinda regret choosing the name “Ark Swiftshot” now. More like Ark Axepound.
Warrior if you want to be in the heart of the melee, smashing faces. Good warriors are pretty rare. You can turn the tide of a zvz by denying the enemy rallies with your elite skill.
If you want to kite, and pew pew, and immoblize spam on your enemies, and pew pew some more (10-12 second cooldown on rapidfire) then pick ranger.
If you’re fighting with a lot of allies against lots of enemies (20+ vs 20+) you’re probably better off as a warrior – you will do more for your team, and still output a huge amount of damage.
If you’re fighting small groups, >10, ranger can be brutally effective. Find squishies, CC them with pet, rapid fire away, and your 1vx is now 1vx-1
There is no requirement for a Ranger to be a pew-pew or even power Ranger.

You can always go alone, find some GvG fight, select one necro or ele inside blob and spam rabid fire. Funny how sometimes whole guild start to hunt you.

The thing with warrior is that I die really quickly in the middle of the zerg fights, and I’m not that much into supporting my allies with might so I mainly get stuff that are good for skirmishing/fighting.
Ranger I feel like I don’t have much utility other than dishing out some nice dps and long range AoE, other than that its meh.
But to be fair I play a lot better with ranger than with warrior, get a bit confused on what to do in certain situations + I’m not used to my old keybinds so I get messed up trying to active kitten lol
Rangers are in a good place right now.
If you want to be more useful in a large group fight, you probably want to roll warrior.
If you usually just pug, ranger is much easier to start with.
If you want to roll with an organized raid / Zerg and be sorted into parties where you have a key roll then warrior is your best bet. I’ve never seen a commander sort parties and give one care about rangers. In big fights a well placed banner can turn the tide in your favor. A ranger will never have that kind of impact.
If you want to roam solo or in havoc either class is excellent. Wars have superior mobility and of course great melee. Their weakness in my opinion is their predictability. Good players know how to deal with the few common war builds and will counter you.
Ranger is in my opinion the most fun I’ve had in wvw. I have 13 level 80 toons across all classes, 3 servers, and play every class competently (maybe ele is my weakest). Dragon ranked in pvp, titles for multiple classes, gold ranked in wvw. So it’s a laugh when people troll QQ me with nasty whispers that I only play a trash LB ranger. Shrug
Ranger is so versatile I have multiples so I don’t have to swap builds and gear. Ranger is the only class I roll up on and find so many variations that I’m often still surprised. It’s an easy class to play and easy to get good at playing. I think it’s boring to run a ranger in a Zerg so I usually don’t. If I do I’m burning down back lines or removing thieves from harassing our casters. Mainly solo roam, double team, or run havoc. Full zerker set up.
People often underestimate rangers. I’m not really sure why but they do silly things and get salty about it. Yes ranger is easy but a well played ranger can be a deadly beast. In my opinion rangers are second only to necros in the +1 havoc role. Providing a targeted set of big dmg drops on engaged enemies across the entire skirmish area is super effective and LOL fun.
Literally you will hear me on TS looking for 50% health targets and dropping player after player after player.

they really are. Closest class to being perfectly balanced after guard atm.

You can play rangers melee too ya know. They can add a lot to the team with flame/viper/frost traps if you want.
alts: Fangyre (Necro), Hardrawk (Ele);
Jade Quarry
I really can’t say which is best. These days out of the two I’ll usually end up playing my bow-less Power Ranger.
Warriors are “better” in most WvW instances by a good bit. Their big downside is that they are ultimately boring and limited to skirmish/skill group/zerg play. They can roam, but must compromise to do so effectively. They are hard to duel with as they aren’t a particularly good burst class. They also have a low mastery ceiling… it isn’t hard to play a warrior very effectively.
The Ranger class on the other hand is at best annoying and at worst useless. The class still doesn’t have a solid contribute to the group, stay alive and deal good damage build. The best they have is hope nothing gets on top of me and do some good damage at range while contributing little to group dynamics (few fields, few combo effective abilities, little control, etc). In the right hands, a Ranger can tear up a lot of players but it takes an exceptional player to wring that much out of the class. That same player in any number of other classes would be even more devastating.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
I main a frontline stance warr in zerg play and along with guards, they are still key to coordinated fights. However, when the raid is over, I often jump on my backline power LB ranger for pure fun. SOOO many people alt-F4 when I am stomping them on my ranger.
Oh and I wasn’t meaning to imply that I only run Ranger. My mains are both heavies, War and Guard. My Ranger is relatively new, and I try not to participate in zerg fights much; he’s built for roaming. Although our tag on EBG had to leave so I decided to take tag and command; I found healing spring + WH 5 to be incredibly good for survivability. Lots of evades and condi clear from Survival of the Fittest were necessary. It’s far from an ideal commanding class, in fact I’d probably rank it near the bottom; above thief but below everything else, but it can be played effectively as long as your cautious. That’s really the biggest reason why I put it at the bottom for commanding; your level of caution has to be near-maximum to stay alive.
Ranger = Roaming.
Warrior = Roaming, Blobbing and everything else.
Rangers are one trick ponies.
Warriors are swiss army knives.

I started running this http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fNAQNBHhFakRl+VbYxlFuWDQIULDg3tdLUsHrzkoGS5IZhtIA-T1CEwAQOEAtU/xpyjf7PsVJohTAQTlYt1EU5BA0RPAgjAApASZoF-w in zergs a few weeks ago. I don’t have any problem surviving. Maul hits like a truck and the water field saved our butts a bunch of times when we lost our back line. If they would just rework shouts to provide better party buffs rangers could find a good spot in the zerg.
I like ranger but I do feel kind of useless and weak once any melee class gets close to me (which isn’t a hard thing to do with all those gap closings). Getting one shotted by thiefs or CC’d to death by guardians/warriors is kinda boring.
I also like warrior but find it really hard to play effectively, I’m not into support warrior (sword/warhorn/GS) so I usually prefer a warrior that’s good at both zerging and skirmishing for some extra fun, I don’t know fi I should run GS/Mace and Shield or GS/Hammer
Warrior by far is better for the multitude of things you can do in WvW.
Best NA rallybot on EU
Warrior is far more useful in large fights, just by bannering the commander and using the warhorn. Hammer has an AE stun and a blast finisher while sword has an immoblize that hits 3 targets
Rangers offers little to the group. Sure you can use healing spring, but then you lose your own personal heal. Your pet also is pretty ineffective in large fights.
In smaller fights, both are fine and can be fun.
It’s my exact warrior build GS/H, even the same equipmenta and sigils, any tips for WvW/PvP?

Glass Bow Rangers may be one trick ponies, but the Ranger as a profession is far from a one trick pony.

go ranger
If you want to be useful to your team, warrior is the way to go.
If you want a ton of loot bags, longbow ranger for the lulz. You can rack up bags with the least amount of risks. Point Blank Shot and Entangle should take care of anyone using gap closers if they so choose to come at you. Generally a number 2 to the face will send them running the other way though.
Ranger is excellent for roaming and havoc teams up to 15 people. Beyond 15 people ONE ranger will make no notable impact. 15 and below and ONE ranger will make a notable impact.
Ranger is kitten for zergs.
Warrior is great for zergs, kitten for roaming. Those who say they are good for roaming are delusional at best. Warriors are great at flipping camps, they are kitten at duels, those who claim otherwise are delusional at best.
No self respecting player with 100+ hours of game time will have any problems outplaying a good warrior. If a warrior beats any class in a duel, in its current state, the other player made a massive mistake.
Warriors are great for groups. One warrior can make an big impact even in a 30 man zerg with no other warriors (good luck finding one). Still they have their limitations, and the upcoming changes to stability will further hinder them.
Warriors are in a state of close to being balanced. This has its upsides and downsides. On one side, they are not massively overpowered, they are flexible, they have distinct weaknesses. However they are not massively overpowered, they have distinct weaknesses and obvious animations, therefore they pose little threat to the average player, and are free kills for experienced players.
Warriors are currently in a peculiar state. They can specialize, but not as well as others. Their burst is lower then others, their regen is lower then others, their tankyness is lower then others, their support is lower then others. They simply cannot truly excel in one single place, they can however be good, or even great, in several things at once. However pit them against some other profession that simply excel at a single thing, and the warrior loses simply due to not being able to do ONE critical thing.
Warriors are unable to maintain steady pressure while going defensive.
For those who claim longbow rangers is the “real deal”. L2P.
I can supply plenty of builds that would wreck longbow rangers simply due to my long experience playing one.
PS:
warriors is THE most brutal counter to LB rangers, and they can provide good support while countering the ranger. They counter the longbow ranger at the cost of NEVER having even the slightest chance of beating any other ranger build.

Which is now best for WvWvW? I haven’t played in almost a year.
What do you like to do? What are you GOOD at doing?
As a decent (still learning even after two years and 17k kills or more) Ranger I can tell you I kill more on my Ranger with a good build.
I can’t play a warrior well enough – I can be destroyed by any other Warrior when I am playing one but I have a chance against most on my Ranger (not the Bunkers and boy would I love to have those builds if they are really builds and not hacks but alas no one knows how they are doing it…).
Ranger. More utility, can hit like a truck and can be a healer and mitigator, getting up more Warriors than I can count on my Ranger… and a bag as a Warrior… I choose what I am better at.
Roaming Ranger wins that choice hands down.
Zerg? Warrior might be a better choice since boons are massive so if you are at the head of any zerg you will see more kills as a GOOD Warrior than Ranger.
Ascended or Legendary necessary if you really want to survive and have a chance and don’t forget food and tools… they MATTER.

I am not a glass Ranger and I am NOT a one trick pony (she says as she heals the downed Warrior for the BILLIONTH time.).
for roam+small scale both ranger and war are pretty decent. when fighting bigger zergs it depends on the fact wether your server functions like the pirate ship meta or the meleetrain meta. meleetrain meta=wars+guards going deep inside the enemy lines, pirate ship= alot of casters with barely pushing inside the enemy zerg.
For meleetrain meta the ranger is probably the worst pick, where warrior shines.
for pirate ship meta the ranger is actually very usefull for sniping commander and taking down the enemy casters (since pirateship combat is pretty static and ranger has a very big range he’s safe while pewpewing the enemies.) the warrior however is pretty useless in this situation because the aoe pressure is to heavy to push inside the enemy zerg.
In the end it depends on what you like to play :p both classes function very well in WvW.
Longbow with air/fire sigils, piercing arrows trait, rapid fire with proper positioning is as effective zerg aoe dps as there is. No we don’t bring utility to the zerg but you still need to kill. There are ranger builds more suitable for the zerg than glass bow.
With warrior and with a good buid you will make 2x, 3x more kills and lootbags and you will support your team. I made 29k kills with ranger and 70+ with warri within a year of maining and i was more playtime in ranger

i made more kills with staff ele in 2 months then warrior and ranger over one year.
playtime matters little, number of enemies does. i spent 6 months of ranger in t5, 4 months ranger + warr in T1 NA, and 2 months of ele in T1 EU during seasons. your point is moot

He’s saying tagging more enemies doesn’t equal killing more enemies.
