What’s the point of rank titles if they have nothing to do with actual pvp?

One can just follow 40 man zergs, do pve (hit doors, and ninja keeps) and get super high rank. There’s no skill required, just follow the zerg.

I daily see “bronze legends” and higher, and when caught alone (usually trying to get back to their zerg, like good and loyal raid babies), they melt in seconds. Why is PvE so rewarding in an “open world” pvp area?

Kinda off the point since Spvp has nothing to do with WvW, but I agree. The point is that PvP is not rewarding at all in “open world” pvp area. A solo roamer can get 40 solo kills a day and that will probably not be enough for 1 rank, while a raid baby/zerger can just pve and get 20 ranks in a day.

Can you think of a way to award WXP that wouldn’t make zerging the optimal way to gain ranks? Even if capping points didn’t award any and it only came from players, you’d only need to win one zerg fight where you tag 60 people and contribute nothing to get more than a roamer probably will in a whole day never losing a 1v1-3. Spamming aoe autoattacks in a blob is just as easy and useless as pressing 1 on a ram to take an undefended keep.

In answer to your question, the point of the ranks is to keep the mass of people that make up the zerg playing by giving them something for their time invested. Why don’t roamers need equal treatment? Because roaming is actually fun and allows you to improve as a player over time, and so is intrinsically rewarding. Zerging is not, which is why they created this extra layer of reward.

PvP ranks are a joke, and so are WXP ranks. They are only very rough benchmarks for experience, but WXP isn’t even account bound. PvP has a ranked leaderboard based on tournament wins at least, and this rank counts for more.

The only difference between an invader & a bronze invader is the amount of time the person has played world vs world. Sure you get skill points for siege & so forth. My title is bronze recruit and I am under no illusion a level 1 player could kill me off in a one on one situation.

Why are you so bitter? Who cares what their rank is? Just play and have fun.

I agree that the points system is pretty well kitten – but at the end of the day it’s just about improving your own skill.

It’s just a game. and in a few months or a couple of years at most you’ll probably delete the whole thing anyway. (I’ve got huge quantities of gold, titles and fancy gear stashed away in my WoW account – won’t ever bother with it again though)

Titles in games like this will always have a way to farm them if the player is good enough to figure it out. Really all titles are is a gauge of how much time the person has spent on that character. That being said obviously a roamer will identify very differently than a casual spamming 1 on camps all day.

WvW ranks show only if you follow the karma train or not, it doesn’t show your skill or time spent in the game.
Usually a bronze legend will be equipped with a zerg build, so basicaly its a free kill for you.
