I think it is time we had a rating reset, just look at how dull the matches are. I remember the good old times every week was different, should be like that again. Leave the europe ones, theirs is fine but I Strongly thing NA need more attention.

Given the large disparity in server populations it is simply impossible to have both parity and variety with the same rating system, and it staggers me that people cannot understand that. Pick one or the other, but you can’t have both.

No. Matchups are supposed to be balanced, they are.

The is a spectrum between freezing the matches (as the current math do over time)
and reseting everything.

As usual both extremes are bad!

We put Vizunah Square and Jade Quary into a separate 2-side match and Play EU and NA without them

PS: To ensure 3-side matches without them, Baruch Bay is moved to NA (most spanish are in america anyway), and the last 2 EU-server are merged.

Well I don’t see the point of having a distinction between EU and US servers. Tiers are highly dependant on global time zone coverage so why bother having a distinction for W3?

You are effectively doubling the pool of what has become a quite stale match up with very little movement in rankings that looks like it will continue for some time. Throwing the US and EU servers into the same match up could only help at this point.

No, we don’t. Look at the matchups. Everything except for tier 8 (and 7, for EU) is in a good place.

The only real solution is to take competition out of WvW and do (shorter) random matches (like random sPvP) just as training ground and for the fun-factor.

AND add a new competitive (like team sPvP)

where guild-alliances are freely build over server and NA/EU boundaries.

When a match is setup it will take place on a server (US or Germany) where the majority is closer by. (or it switches depending on the time of the day, 12h in Germany 12h in US)

I play in Tier 8. But it’s not only Tier 8 that needs some shuffling.

Tier 2 in the EU seems the place to be and Tier 1 doesn’t seem as it’s hyped to be, yet we are with the same stagnant match-ups almost going on for a month.

This probably would have been best instead of a week long imbalanced matchup.
Maybe the math isn’t quite as right as anet thinks, just like the attention they give to wvw apart from cancelling the reset during the week where many servers tanked..

Wait, you guys saying you want to constantly vs. the same servers over and over? I want to fight different servers, learn different tactics, meet new stiles.
Tier 8 NA must be a shocker getting crushed by SF 24/7 but the can’t get out of that hell hole because the rating gap is too large.

I play in Tier 8. But it’s not only Tier 8 that needs some shuffling.

Then change the calculation to achieve better variation, do not mess with matchups that have no issues. T8 is a problem separate from anything else. A reset is a genuinely bad idea. If you can’t see that then you’re even more shortsighted than ArenaNet is.

It has nothing to do with the math. It has everything to do with server WvW population. And that is probably not going to change.

There is nothing to fix in T1 .. but in US T2 … its clear Tc is massively outnumbered there and while loosing and loosing hard still stays in the tier .. in my opinion its broken …..

If 95% of the wvw population in this game wasn’t so focused on being on the “best” servers, we would have some amount of balance between tiers that would allow servers to move more often.

But if you’re asking us to trade the closest thing to balance that we can achieve, just so that you get to see new nameplates above your opponents next week, you are clearly very out of touch with what’s going on in this game.

SOR doesn’t belong in T2 either. When you were there the point spread between SOR and the rest of us was even larger than the 40K you are griping about. Of course SOR was pwning everything and everyone in sight.

Top of the Tier and rickrolling everything in sight with no challenge?

Or fighting a super server or 2 and barely maintaining your place in that tier (or any tier for that matter) sure brings out the best in a server.

At one time I thought it was better at the top of the heap, but after fighting with TC these last weeks and watching the server really come together in the face over sometimes overwhelming odds/zergs. I wouldn’t trade anything for the experiences and fun we’ve been having.

Or the challenges.

Anybody who thinks we can have fresh matches each week that are even close to being balanced is totally clueless. There is simply way too much disparity in server populations for that to happen.

Unfortunately, I’m not sure there is any viable solution to the problem:

-1. outmanned buffs that actually provide any benefit break other aspects of the WvW gameplay

-2. pairing high pop servers with low pop servers in a 2v2v2 format creates queue problems and kills small team play for people who transferred to low pop servers to get it

-3. using a mercenary system like Rift did (where you get assigned to the the lowest pop faction when you join the match) defeats the server identity and ruins any sense of continuity throughout the week

-4. capping player pops at the current level of the lowest pop server merely excludes lots of people from playing the game

-5. adding companion NPCs when undermanned turns the game into something entirely different … more like PvE and with less independent thought/action.

Let’s face it … Anet probably needs to reconfigure how they handle WvWvW entirely. It may simply not be possible to get decent (i.e., fun, fair, fresh) matches between servers the way that WvW is currently organized. From what I understand, TESO is planning some sort of large virtual server that will handle everyone at once in a single massive format, so maybe that’s a direction that ANet should consider … although I’d bet ANet’s game engine is not capable of doing so. I don’t really know what would be the best solution, but it seems pretty clear that GW2 WvW is displaying some fundamental problems that require a change of some sort. My guess is that we would have to sacrifice server identity to get better game play.

So, let’s extend this. Pick two teams you local football team gets to play all season, cause you can’t have parity and new teams to play against in the same package. Static tiers are doing nothing but being boring. Over a week and counting since I cared enough to play for the same outcome as the last month and a half, or more. Combine that with a low pop server to start with, and GoM has lost a reliable night time defender, when that is exactly the time they need me most. Cause I’m bored of the same match, the same fight, the same result, over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over……………………………………………………………………… Exactly what god given rule says the matchups have to be between just three servers, but can’t bump up and down from the tiers above and below for more variety, and challenge. Stagnation isn’t a goal.

I am not sure how to help the Tier 8 trap.

As to match stagnation and mismatched timezone wvw;

I suggest that the maps and PPT ( not the score ) are reset 3-4 times daily.

All would get to participate but the next timezone of players would not be facing a full red/green/blue map from the previous timezone.

The biggest issue for WvW is the small amount of servers and the lack of volatility in the math. The most practical solution is to combine the EU and US servers to add rating gap closers. That, combined with volatility, would have frequently changing but balanced enough matches.

Don’t give me that “but lag” kitten. I’ve played on EU and it’s fine, EU, AUS, KOR play on US and it’s fine. Mash the ladder together for variety and ratings gap filling.

Your plea is falling on deaf ears… A-Net already reversed their decision on resetting the rating. If they reverse their reversal then that will just make them look stupid.

If you aren’t happy in your tier right now then save up some Starbucks money to pay for a transfer.

I play t4 on yaks. This week as most weeks at t4 the matches are pretty even which is not always reflected by the score at the end of the week. During the open season of mass transfers we saw wild swings in wvw populations on particular servers. People moved for many reasons but many also moved to a server moving up the ranks fast. Now that you have to pay people do not move and if they do not like where they are they stop playing. I have fun every day CD and Emery have always been a good matchup. I personally dont want to move to T3. We were there against TC who took us apart and the fun factor dropped but we fought with all that we had. It became like a second job and not something I do for play. We currently dont have the population coverage to go up at the moment . If the time came that servers were based on wvw pop and not total pop things might change. Currently you can move to any server even JQ at any time of the day (maybe not at reset)

Those that joined the bandwagon teams are where they are and the likelyhood of significant changes is much less. Guilds are not going to move holus bolus now. Therfore it is hard to see any balancing being achieved now. So unless people pay to move nothing can will change and even then 1 will not make a difference.

You are just going to have to accept that this wvw is a game of numbers if they are higher or lower than yours 24/7 you are going to loose or win based on that. I feel sry for the na tier 8 situation but cannot see a way out of it without positive discrimination towards those servers from new players

Ratings don’t need a reset. They just need a new system. More like a round robin system with groups and finals each month.

While I feel that SOMETHING needs to be done to fix the Tier 8 point pit, I don’t think that resetting the ratings for all servers is the way to go about it.

That said, please fix the Tier 8 ratings issue ArenaNet! SF has been in Tier 8 since the beginning of the year and has been curbstomping our opposing servers for a solid month now. Who the heck knows how long we will have to continue to curbstomp before we can finally break out of Tier 8. SF is frustrated, our opposition is frustrated, and the WvW populations on FC and ET are suffering greatly because of it (further exacerbating the population issue).

“Things will sort themselves out in time” is not a solution. The math obviously breaks down in Tier 8 and it’s well past time that something be done to fix this issue. No server should have to have to curbstomp for well over a month of solid in order to move up to another tier. And no server should have to be on the receiving end of curbstomping for that long.

If everyone in here could read that thread I would be thrilled. If you agree please post! ANet might actually do something if we get people from other servers to agree or make suggestions.

No reset is needed, tier 8 is where the dead WvW servers end up. Its natural that a few servers would end up there as they are either empty or PVE orientated. Unfortunately those few people who do WvW on those servers either need to switch to another server or quit playing WvW.

A reset of the rankings will not fix your under population in WvW and any new system would ultimately end up with you still in tier 8.

If a round robin was introduced you may fight different servers but honestly you wouldn’t be able to cope facing higher tier servers.

There is no easy solution to this problem as you can’t even say close / merge the servers as they might be highly populated and 99% of the population PVE.

Tier 1 needs to be fixed also JQ is winning by 60K on a Wednesday… Is there anyone who can stop them? Oh the humanity!

erm so u dont mind then if a tier 1 server gets to tier 8 and trashes the other 2 servers for a week and then the next week a tier 7 server moves to tier 3 and gets destroyed all week long………FA woud have ended up in tier 5 last time they wanted a reset and our enemies would have been from tier 6 and 8…all the tier 1 servers would have beeen in tier 4….and a few low tier servers would have ended up in t2 with t3 and t2 servers…..this would have taken weeeeks till the balance was back again.or would u like to get destroyed for 3 to 7 weeks?

what i would love to see would be more than just a rank and more leveling and abilities for guilds in wvw, something that makes it worth to try to win the match in each tier, not just be nr. i mean like rewards for character and guilds.right now i think that the server who reached nr1 doesnt mean anything…winning only means something if u try and have the chance to move up.
