I’ll just repeat a couple few good questions.

Imo the two most important questions were asked by Brick:

  • The oasis event was described as a comeback mechanic, where a losing team on a map might have a chance to even the odds against a larger server. Some players are worried though that this just presents an opportunity for a large server (or high map population team at the time) to dominate even more. Do you have any more information or an opinion you could provide to allay these concerns?
  • Finally, this isn’t a question about the new map itself, so you might not be able to answer it, but just in case: Are there any plans with HoT to change the way that scoring or population balance in WvW are handled?

I really can’t put into words how much I despise the stupid targetable wildlife in WvW. I end up cursing up a storm at them every single time I play:

1. Will the map be laden with griffons, ©raptors, wolves, coyotes, drakes, skelk, moas, skritt, centaurs, wargs, spiders, hylek, krait, ogres, dredge, earth elementals, bears, Ascalonian ghosts, oakhearts, mosquitoes, panthers, boars, rats, rabbits, deer, sharks, chickens, pigs, cows, racoons, snow owls, eagles, and other assorted wildlife whose sole purpose is to simply cause aggravation for necros and guardians attempting to move around the map while giving thieves an advantage they don’t at all need?

My questions:

1. Will HoT introduce new WvW abilities at all. If yes, will those augment the new “more defensive” vibe to keep / hold things (like Dolly escorts). If no, will there be any balance changes to old abilities?

2. Will there be an attempt made (e.g. with a new reward structure) to encourage defending and escorting supply lines or structures.

3. The immunity to burning from holding the Fire Shrines seems to be affecting some professions way more than others (e.g. Elementalists and Guardians). Will there be a counterbalance to that by de-buffing other “core conditions” of other professions too (e.g. Poison, Torment, Confusion).

4. Will there be more ways to invest Badges of Honor instead of gold for personal items, upgrades etc.

5. Since map completion in WvW has been removed from World Completion in PvE, will a fully explored WvW map now perhaps give you mastery points?

Is there going to be PvE mobs that are capable of rallying enemies in this map?

Is there anything new that’s going to be done in preparation of potential WvW lag issues caused by all the new graphical effects in the map?

Emmm the lag isn’t cos of graphic effect – it is fps drop so just lower ur graphic settings or buy better pc components, u can;t really help it unless u remove whole water, sky and grass. The real lag is caused by LOOOOOOW servers perfromance and cheap servers that anet bought from german serverroom – they wrote that it is german’s server room issue and they “investigate” it for 3 montsh after 2 years of lags ;D So u have to buy WTFast for 10$ / month – but ofcourse gw2 is free of subscription and u don’t need to pay anything to play unless u want to get rid of lag. Unfortunatly this don’t help with current lag caused by last patch – probably servers can’t handle stabillity and cc calculations. And no, lag isn’t caused by large groups – this too but a bit. The real problem are blob vs blob fights that stress servers tooooo much but anet make patches – like last one, to favor blobs so ppl blob and then bah u have tons of lags

1. Is there going to be any changes towards the scoring? Like giving better incentives to attack the winning server (now usually #1 and #3 both focus more on the 2nd server, guaranteeing that most match ups are decided well before Friday reset)

2. Will the events scale with the number of the players? Making them harder for larger zerg to face roll anything quickly

3. Will I still be able to play on the old borderland maps when the new maps are taken into public use?

4. Is the borderland bloodlust back? (I hope not!) And if not, do we get points from stomps?

5. Are there any locations with underwater combat (like current Bay) ?

6. Any plans to balance the skills, traits and consumables? Now certain professions are highly prevalent in WvWvW and almost everybody uses the same foods (+/- 40% condition duration, which is stronger than trait lines and considered by many balance breaking)

7. Will the fire shrine 3rd power really grant immunity towards the burning condition? (this could be a balance breaking)

8. Any plans to balance the transfer costs? (now with megaservers the server population should not determine anything, but server’s current rank should determine the transfer price, the higher the rank, the higher the price)

9. Any plans to give better use for the badges of honor? e.g. ability to obtain ascended back piece for 30 g + 50 laurels + 5000 badges and make WvWvW gear salvageable.

10. Any plans to give better rewards for defending, upgrading and sieging? Now some players spend lots of gold and objectives like camps can be flipped very quickly, thus losing everything. Currently very few players like to scout and sit on towers and keeps and get much smaller rewards than the rest.

I only have one question:

Regarding Map Design
With the recently stability changes and uncapped CC rendering stability ineffective in WvW combined the seemingly large number of potential choke points (mazes, vertical nature of the map, etc) are they all concerned that the maps will be too defensive and no one will be able to successfully attack a base that’s defended?

For 3. they already told that NEW map swap with alpine borderland so no, u won’t be able to play at old maps when HoT get out. For 6. just use condi + when someone use condi – and everything with condis will be balanced lol, it is ur problem that u don’t want to care about winning and just think u can do stuff like in pvp.

They just don’t care about WvWers’ version of GvG, ‘cause it’s something the WvW community made up, kinda like how people can have races in custom PvP arenas to see how fast each team can kill the Lord in Foefire and ANet wouldn’t care because it’s a made-up game-mode.

It’s unclear what impact these changes will have on solo play.

While the oasis event sounds like you’ve at least put some thought into roamers and their ilk, some questions arise:

-In what ways specifically does the oasis cater to roamers, ambushers and gankers?
-Are the roamers (etc) the ones you foresee hunting down these dinosaurs?
-How long does the event take?
-Most importantly, what do roamers and gankers do when the oasis event is inactive?

The post from Tyler likened capturing shrines to capturing sentry points, saying a solo player will be able to handle it. Currently, solo roamers capture entire supply camps, if they want to contribute to their team’s efforts and provoke a response (the latter is often the main objective).

-Does this mean that supply camps will be harder now?
-Given relative ease of movement for defenders on a map they control, will response times be significantly lower?

Tyler’s post also mentioned that the paths are “windier,” and we’ve also been told that towers will pose significant impediments to movement. Swift movement across the map is essential to a roamer, but it’s also important to have options.

-Just how much slower will map travel be, if you’re forced to go the long way?
-How many alternate routes will there be for any given A-B?
-Will there be many escape routes? (Aside from fancy air-shrine jump pads)

The increase of whining people that keep on QQing about PvE elements in WvW just started first to massively increase with the intoduction of EotM.
All the time before EotM, no freaking butt QQed so much about the pve elements in WvW, like peopel do now since the EotM implemention …

I for myself can say on,y, I absolutely love the new desert map design so far from what I have seen, its far mroe interactive and interestingly designe,d that those boring alpine borderlands triple clones, which I hope, just return only, when Anet has given that map theme also a complete redesign first to improve the old maps with better mechanics and overall map design to make playing on them more fun, than before.

I suggest you to give the new map first a chance by playing enough time on it to make up for an opinion about it … whats is good, what is bad ect. and how the bad things could get improved (not removed)

Will the skill lags be fixed when there is a full on 3 way fight going on between the 3 servers? Especially with the new desert border lands with even more mechanics, can the servers (anet severs) even handle that? Because i am getting really tired of the 10-15 sec skill delays. OK, I’ll amend it to my beloved borderlands. I will also try the new maps but can’t forsee how capping 3 altar things to get the fire thing buff to get into the next thing to do a Tequatl battle in a keep will be any fun. I want to fight other players, not NPC. And arrowcarts are going to be everywhere so can’t wait to do be a maze runner while moved @-50% run speed. But I’ll give it a try. Wonder how long EBG has left. ;(

You must be newer to the game. By newer, I mean you haven’t been here since launch. That’s fine. Let me give you a bit of history.

In the beginning, there was no siegerazer. That the first of the PvE elements added to the game post-launch. When that was added, people did complain. It was not popular with players at all. ANET ignored the comments.

Next, ANET decided to add living story elements into WvW. Those also were not popular and people complained quite bit. ANET ignored the comments.

EotM came and the beta testers told ANET there was too much PvE. Devon Carter was the lead at the time and actually posted a message about how it was the same amount of PvE as the rest of the WvW maps. Clearly, he hadn’t played the other maps at the time. ANET ignored the comments.

ANET still doesn’t get that the core of WvW players want to fight each other. Yes, you have some that want to sit in a tower all day, and yes you have some that like the PvE elements. Those are the minority. It should tell you something when the people who gave positive opinions on the new WvW map are either: PvE players, or WvW casuals.

The map is not going to be fun for either zerging or roaming in more ways than just the PvE. The whole vertical terrain thing is a bad idea. It isn’t fun to try to roam around in EotM as a result of that. It takes forever to find other roamers and by that point, I’m bored. The ironic thing… when I finally do fight other people it is in the main areas, not in the lower vertical levels.

So yes, the map is not going to be popular. People will play it while waiting to get into EB.

With the introduction of much more “verticality” into the maps, was thought put into limiting the number of areas where fall death is a danger?

This is one of the most frustrating parts about EotM, the omnipresent danger of falling to your death on 75% of the map due to the narrow, open sided paths and myriad random holes, cracks, and cliffs. One misstep or poorly targeted leap and you are running for a looong time.

Worse still is that it creates some great imbalances for certain skills (e.g. fear). Troll necros are omnipresent in EotM, where they can fear an entire zerg to their deaths with one fear wall.

I can appreciate if there are points where its a strategic key – you know it’s a danger and you have to think of ways to counter it. I would hate to have another map where you need a twitchy finger on your stab key and an eagle eye on your target every time you leap.

I think Arena net believe that to add Pve content in wvw will make it challenge and fun: No! Pve is Pve, Not Wvw or PVp. I spend more time in Pve because it is challenge and Fun. I spend less time with Pvp and Wvw because it is not challenge and fun: so why would i play Wvw for pve content? do not make sense at all.

Again and again: the reason why wvw is not challenge and not fun is because there is 4 class that require less-no skill to do very high damage with almost no risk + low-zero cooldown.

There is more reason why wvw is not fun but with my experience: that is why i am spend less of my time there. I do not want to waste a lot of my time in a game mode to die every second and to not have fun.

In Pve: it is not even like that at all: except for some very high mobs+boss compare to wvw where these 4 class are there all the time.

Last and again: the reason why there is different game is for more challenge and for more fun. And more Important: to have diferent experience. Again, to have diferent experience, Not same experience.

Style: your research, investigation and evidence is very sad to know, Arena net is against work with us player to make the game challenge and fun. I will now not waste my time anymore to ask for challenge and fun.

Example:Relationship- it is like finding evidence that the person you are in relationship with: is using you for their own benefit.

Can we get an offical stance on PPT vrs Fights? Some players have gone as far as to call it a rules infraction to only play for fights and not be 100% focused on score.
Is it ok to enter WvW and only focus on fights avoiding playing for PPT?

Who don’t risk anything? LOL necros and elese get insta haunted by enemy fp, meele need to avoid aoe and ccs…accordign to that where is such risk at PvE? NOWHERE, I didn’t die a single time during TT or Teq, cos it was too easy to roll away form aoe, put healing, brainless dps etc etc. So i don’t really get what hard is for u, casual gaming or hc at wvw when u are in zerg against blob Also which 4 classes? U can play all 8 classes at WvW, but the point is taht no1 want to play engi cos it is too hard at WvW and rangers are useless in compare to other classes and usually brainless ppl who spam 1.1.1. with rangers and get killed by retal or wor.

Back to questions about mechanics…. Since players in the Air Elementally themed fort can get the buff of taking no falling damage, will that change how falling/jumping might trigger the falling damage reduction mechanics, or the effects of runes like snowfall?

Similarly, how might other buff granted in other areas interact with the mechanics of runes, traits or skills? Did you need to change any of the latter because of the buffs that are available in the new borderlands?

What do u want to change about Eotm? It is farm for pvers and it keeps arrows + all thos pvers away from EB so EB is now more players friendly. What about OS? It is gvg arena and idk what should be changed there. People ganking other while they do jps? If u don’t want that go pve jps.

  1. Can we play the new borderland without buying the expansion?
  2. Will gliding and other masteries work in the new Borderland?
  3. Will there be destructible bridges/walls aside from those at Keeps?
  4. Will there still be areas for large open-field battles?
  5. Will there be Tier 3 doors (ever)?
Nobody at Anet loves WvW like Grouch loved PvP. That’s what we need, a WvW Grouch, but taller.

I think Arena net believe that to add Pve content in wvw will make it challenge and fun: No! Pve is Pve, Not Wvw or PVp. I spend more time in Pve because it is challenge and Fun. I spend less time with Pvp and Wvw because it is not challenge and fun: so why would i play Wvw for pve content? do not make sense at all.

Again and again: the reason why wvw is not challenge and not fun is because there is 4 class that require less-no skill to do very high damage with almost no risk + low-zero cooldown.

There is more reason why wvw is not fun but with my experience: that is why i am spend less of my time there. I do not want to waste a lot of my time in a game mode to die every second and to not have fun.

In Pve: it is not even like that at all: except for some very high mobs+boss compare to wvw where these 4 class are there all the time.

Last and again: the reason why there is different game is for more challenge and for more fun. And more Important: to have diferent experience. Again, to have diferent experience, Not same experience.

Style: your research, investigation and evidence is very sad to know, Arena net is against work with us player to make the game challenge and fun. I will now not waste my time anymore to ask for challenge and fun.

Example:Relationship- it is like finding evidence that the person you are in relationship with: is using you for their own benefit.

PvE. That’s what I’m wondering. Why this red-hot hatred towards “PvE”? You say you want things to be more fun and challenging? How? By removing “PvE” from the map completely, meaning no keeps and no towers and no lords? No verticality? Personally, I find that boring and uninteresting.

People have to stop shunning PvE as if it is the bane of all things good. PvE are mechanics to add additional strategy, PvE is the very basic foundation and base which all other game modes are built from. Even sPvP, the game mode furthest away from PvE in GW2, has PvE elements in it, and we don’t complain about it[Except Skyhammer, but only for the same reasons people dislike EotM. Auto-kill CC without the chance to Rally]. It’s only when these elements intrude on our game instead of complimenting it that we should be angry. Only when the environment is “OP” in terms that it overshadows player efforts that we can say “this is too much”.

The Oasis event won’t be killing players, nor will the upgraded Lords be able to single-handedly take out a zerg. From how I perceived it, dinosaurs are fodder, the Lords are simply meant to be more useful and less helpless when the defenders try defending, and the Shrine mechanics will simply compliment the WvW experience.

This is just my opinion, of course, but I feel like everyone’s acting like “PvE” is some kind of dirty cuss.

Of course, a flat slate with no objectives wouldn’t be interesting for long either.

There is still a reasonable case that the focus of a WvW environment should be on the other players, not the PvE mechanics, and in my personal and singular opinion the new map doesn’t balance the two very well.

1. when the new class will come and why you are in biased change the stability since the new class didn’t come yet ?

some thoughts about pve = player versus environment.


this environment can be easy no player controlled = npc like camps lords or a a roamer or a blob or a boss that scaled like crazy against more people like my beloved lyssa .

if the environment is well designed can push players act in a map like ogres/hyleks/dredges in eb that can capture alone a camp or it can be disinterest like skirts in home borderland that do not change anything in map status …..

in my point of view is that less or more pve can not change the wvw but the good and smart pve can ( like the new dolly buff ). there are many things in wvw that make it great , but for these people that belongs to servers with no so much population in wvw or that they are more focused to pve fights i think the good pve helps them stay in the map and while they are staying in the map they are acting and while they are acting the enemies are coming to beat them .

the myth says that pve players are not good in wvw or they are dying easy …. a big lie !

all good roamers knows that power / condition ( typical pve builds ) > toughness/vitality ( typical zerg builds ) in 1 vs 1 or more.

Are the camps, towers, and keeps more or less where they are now?

Is there still a citadel? (Surely there has to be, right?) Does it still have a complete set of crafting stations and vendors?

You said that towers are the fastest way to move between levels of the maps — from the look of it, given the example you gave, because their walls sit astride some of the ramps. What’s on what level? The same layout as now, where the north camp and citadel are above the NE/NW towers are above the NE/NW camps and the keeps are above the south towers and camps?

Do supply animals use the shortcuts that go through towers, or do they always take the long, public way from one level to the next?

Are the Veteran creatures still there, and their associated dailies? Are there still skill points and vistas and Points of Interest? Are there still Ruins and Borderlands Bloodlust?

i think it is not wise to have any water at all . the maps with water ( both pve and wvw ) abused so much from under – terrain glitches until now

and unfortunately eb has water too !

in the new map i hope they added empty space like eotm and all terrain glitches have result of the fall even by mistake :p

The map looks good. A lot of open terrain for fighting. Nice to see such a large map as well, going to be hard to zerg the entire map given its size.
