The repair costs in WvW prevent alot of people from engaging in small man/solo/duo or 5 man PvP.

I go out alot solo because i find it fun and zerging the same keeps/towers over and over again highly boring.

There are alot of people that simply ride the zerg so they dont have to pay the repair costs associated with the risk of going at it small time.

I don’t have any problems with repair costs.. so if you have then you are definitely doing something wrong. They are still smaller than the amount of gold you earn on WvW. Unless you just run mindlessly and die few times per minute.

The durability loss needs reducing in WvW.
I die 3 times and gear is on the verge of breaking. You are right though, you do gain more silver than you loose, but its the same for PvE even more so. In fact I die and avoid damage alot less in PvE and get easily more silver than WvW.

While in WvW you are going to get hit alot more and sometimes die deffending a point or helping a downed player (even more so if you’re taking the front line).

Its only logical that the durability loss is reduced or removed in WvW.

i’ve never had a repair cost problem, and i play on the 2nd worst server. sure, sometimes i’ll suicide myself and incur a small loss in funds, but most of the times, you make money if you fight effectively.

Like is said, you do make moeny, but no where near the amount you would in PvE. And when I say that I mean its like a 10 – 1 difference.

You realize ANet has every intention of selling you Gems/Gold eventually?

Maybe not this month but soon enough they’ll have to make significant amounts of money from the cash shop and Gems/Gold is going to be a big part of that.

Ergo, they have an invested interest in keeping inflation to a bear minimum. That’s why so many things….PvP, Travel etc. seem so expensive.

ArenaNet shoud have pretty good metrics on the silver generated from, and the repair costs incurred by, WvW, and if those numbers are indeed wildly skewed relative to PvE for the majority of players, the correct thing to do is to adjust the rewards in WvW, not to touch repair costs. You cannot make WvW repair costs cost less than PvE, or people will start queuing for WvW to repair damage incurred in PvE, and you can’t make them go away without breaking the overall economy unless you also remove all of the rewards and resource nodes.

WvW isn’t about making gold, it’s about spending it. Repair costs, way points and siege weaponry are the only real money sinks in the game. We already get free way points in WvW, removing repair costs would lave only siege weapons whose usefulness is limited by available supply.

The game needs money sinks to curb inflation. Inflation hurts new players. Take WoW as an example, any useful low level item on the auction house is not readily available to new players as they cant make enough money to buy that item when it would be of any use (10 gold for a level 5 weapon).

I disagree with Dee Jay. Low inflation doesn’t help gold sellers (Anet), because low inflation means things are available for a reasonable price.
As someone who has played Final Fantasy 11, high inflation basically requires that you purchase currency in order to afford anything since there is no in game mechanic of making that much gold at a reasonable pace.

I’d get rid or repair costs because siege weapons & camp/tower/keep upgrades are enough of a money sink.

Edit – P.S., all you guys who think “it’s fine” need to spend some time being the guy who brings the siege gear, or who does the upgrading. I can easily go through a gold/day just doing that.

Wheres this money people are talking about getting? Sometimes I see a small sack on the ground but most the time I dont have the time to loot it. As a warrior I die more then most because I have to get closer, even with my ranged. Im therefore forced to play it safer. Any time I do WvW I come out a good amount poorer then when I entered.
