It seems what ever updates happened in the latest patch has killed mesmer… I notice a huge damage decrease, having a very hard time doing any decent shatter damage now. Confusion nerf wasn’t really needed, could have just allowed blink/stealth/heals to not be affected by confusion instead. Not fair when other classes warriors/necros can do 20k+ aoe DMG in seconds, thieves can do 20-30k+ dmg single target then disappear in seconds. Yet mesmers get the nerf. What’s next? Mesmer will be limited to two illusions? Guess it is time to roll another class.
Mesmers also have Portals (the only class with this in the game), an AoE pull/wall speed buff/(A Reflect – if Traited) on their focus, an AoE push on greatsword, an invulnerability on sword, self-stealth, wall stealth (no target limit, the only one that has no limit in the game), an AoE stealth elite, Time Warp elite (the only AoE quickness ability), and Moa Form elite (the only enemy transformation ability).
They have the absolutely best utility and survivability (blink/stealth/invulnerability/reflect/etc. help a lot in survival) in the game – they don’t really deserve to be on par with other classes in damage – or they would simply have everything with no down sides.
they killed my main character D/D Ele…i spent 100g to get commander tag on my ele and now she is pretty much useless in WvW. Anet killed my main character so i quit gw2

I’ve been running shatter on my mes since day one, ran confusion a few times but didn’t like it. I can honestly say I haven’t noticed a difference on the effectiveness of my build. I hit 806 damage with my 12 stacks of confusion on my shatter burst and 2K+ per clone for the spike. Sorry to hear you’re having trouble.
Edit: yes eles can tank better but have you ever fought one? They have kitten damage in the tank spec. They have good burst heals and cc but other than that the tank spec doesn’t accomplish much.

Tots you do realize that the damage you hit is very crappy right? My necro hits 1-3k auto attacks first two hits,4-6k on 3rd dagger strike. 20k dmg aoe well bombs. Endless amounts of HP. So what you said just backs my argument. And caveth, thieves have stealth/aoe stealth very powerful cluster bomb damage with medium armor and insaine speed. You are basically saying a moa bird and portal is worth no damage. Well then ill exchange my port/moa for damage please, plus mesmers are the slowest running class aswell.

Sound like that power necro needs some serious nerf. People say that necro is bad, but this dude kill everything in seconds.

Ele needs a nerf before necro, a light armored squishy ele shouldn’t tank better then a guardian. Everyone says necro is bad, but they don’t know how to play/spec it properly. Condition necro is bad yes. The only class I have an issue with is a bunker build ele and a good thief. Necro doesn’t need a nerf, other classes before it need a nerf but I would say it is top 3 class for PVP. Maybe instead of “nerfing” we could “tweak” how certain things work. Such as confusion with mesmer, instead of nerfing damage don’t allow it to work with certain spells etc.

i really dont think u understand the mesmers at all sry! you cant have all those things together.each build has its pros and cons check our traitline and check our weapons.

Okay I’m running a build with 1400 toughness. Ill break down the damage in my aoe spike.
4 clone shatter #2 skill = 3-4k damage
Mirror images leap right after for another 4 clone mind wrack =8-10k damage.
Swap for immobile and blurred frenzy while you do the mind wrack = 5-6kdamage.
I can do that burst in under 2 seconds, tell me that’s not a lot of damage. That’s easily 15-20K damage + 12 stacks confusion.(15-20k depending on crits.) And while mirror is recharging I have blurred+ 4 clone mind wracks which can do 10-15K damage spikes every 8 seconds.
Edit: I spend most of my time solo roaming and with all the stealth and the ability to use portals I find mesmers extremely mobile and can outrun almost every Zerg I see coming. It’s about breaking combat and way pointing, sometimes it’s the smartest move. I suggest air runes, an absolute must for solo or roaming mesmers, the added mobility helps a little.

I have a level 80 mesmer; I take my self stealth, blink, and portal for survival/utility and the elite stealth ability. I’ve never had problems killing enemies and surviving with my nearly glass cannon build with power/precision/critical damage (greatsword/sword+focus).

What you were hit with is probably the BVenom + d/p combo. The initial spike won’t kill you and you have to react to the stun by cantripping it, and once you have… the thief is done. He has no more initiative and he’s running away.

Whatever it is we are getting off topic, confusion nerf was ridiculous and now condition build is 100% useless in every aspect on every class. Bleeds/Confusion all of it is useless now.

Of my 6×80 chars, mesmer has most hours (520 hours), and I can tell you now I won’t play it anymore in wvw. Not they are bad, but now they are ‘utility slaves’ of the zerg (veil, portal, time warp). On their own they bring very few to the tables Imo. Having both viable condition/ physical damage build, always has been a great plus for me. So Mesmer falls of my list now.
No excuse anymore for not giving ‘hide mounts’-option

So in translation you quit the game because you couldn’t adapt to changes made to what, two skills? Eles are FAR from useless in wvw even after the nerf, you just need to expand your horizons a bit.

WWW ele now is relegated to support NPC for other class to have fun….
Again they will see a huge drop in its use and considering that at least in tier 1 it was far from being OP as it is in PvP for reasons quite easy to understand to WWW players, the nerf makes sense as much as it do in PvE.
It was just lazyness.
They should have split skills
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.

Confusion did enough damage that it supplemented any build no matter what you ran. I’m definitely noticing that it’s much harder to finish people in my zerker shatter build, but it’s added a new challenge and I’ve had to be more careful with my skill usage.

Zastari maybe another way to look at the confusion build would be add some kind of “trait” needed to increase confusion dmg 50% so it can’t be used with every mesmer build.

Umm sat there? If you are stunlocked/immobilized and a necro and death shroud on cooldown, you cant teleport/stealth away because well necros don’t have that. You must be so amazing though, you should show me how it’s done sir.

A proper fix to confusion really has nothing to do with cutting down the damage from where it was. It should be set to not proc on damage-traited dodgerolls, heals, and autoattacks.

Of course, I’ve been running a more balanced build and not one that relied on confusion as the primary source of damage, so that helps I’m sure. But instead of proclaiming the dead of mesmer-kind, I’d say we’ve had one build humbled yet still remain the dominant form of life in Tyria.

Wait, are you saying most Mesmers wasnt utility slaves before the patch? O.o
Cant speak for anyone else, but I like being rare. I’ll still play my Mesmer as a main even if 90% stop playing it, I enjoy it too much. The nerf didnt really affect my WvW bunker build anyway, no condition damage and no confusion traits to begin with.

I wish I could duel your mesmer 1v1 with my necro to show you really how underpowered a mesmer is now. Stunbreaker/TP has nothing to do with it, I have boon strips/stun locks, insaine AOE dmg, 116% crit dmg and with fury I have 90% crit chance. Very simple just turn off show enemy names and your illusions do not show up as nametags so they are useless in confusing me who the real target is.

Have fun, I play with a build that has as much stealth as a thief, multiple condition clears, and the ability to drop out 16k bursts with immobilize. If you’re rampager setup you’ll probably get dropped before you can death shroud.

And zastari I told you, I run full berserker gear. Conditions are messed up atm so yes you would destroy a condition necro, but not a zerker necro. Very few people know how to spec/play necro properly I would say like 5% < But in mass zergs I would chose a necro over ANY other class in my opinion. For smaller groups , thief.

Zastari maybe you should play necro or look it up before talking, teleport is within deathshroud which I said was on cooldown or can you not read? In that case go back to school. And the only other teleport skills are two diff pets which I dont use, the worm and shadow fiend. So stop talking about stuff you have no idea about. And the stun break I dont use because it has a crazy long cooldown and I’m well bomb spec. I was just stating the fact of thieves power is all.

Nah, it isn’t worth it. I would rather my 20k aoe dmg. two wells + constant 25% speed boost.
