This is just an idea to make PPT matter to the individual player.

Each week the number of points a single player contributes to the match’s score should be recorded for them to look at.

Just one overall number would be misleading (as it can mask karma-training), so it would be best if it would be broken down into categories: points for killing yaks, spiking players with bloodlust, capturing camps, towers, keeps etc. Then, at the end of the week, a player could see how well they had done.

Making this a public leaderboard would be great too, with the proviso again of course, that it is broken down by category, so as not to over reward zerging.

And, adding guilds to the mix, and recording guild point contributions in this way, would be a great way to renew interest in WvW. Competition between guilds in a PPT leaderboard would be an incredible motivator.

Sounds good to me. I agree. It would be nice for people to see their individual contribution.

Be careful what you wish for. Next thing you know, they wipe all WXP from everyone so that the upcoming leaderboards will be fair. And then they’ll fail to implement the leaderboards. Remember the Fractal Leaderboards?

I agree, they could very easily use something like their achievement system for this…. like how they keep track of kills and other values in WvW. Assign fitting point values to them or possibly divide the number score earned by structure until its de-caped by the number of people who got credit for the capture and assigning that to each player (That might be kinda hard to do though) I like the later as it doesn’t make zerging the most effective way to get these point totals, which I think keeps it competitive.

Maybe assign individual rewards or rank points to these numbers at the end of the week?

If a zerg captures SM, how would you reward points? What happens if you sit for hours in Garrison and nobody attacks it? You did not do anything that would award defense events, so you get no points? If it gets you points then a lot of people just AFK in keeps and SM, and be at the top of the leaderboards.

I don’t think there is a good solution to this, where we players cannot find some way to exploit it.

I might be wrong on this.. but I’m not sure the the later is exploitable… the total would always add up to your teams total score… you take the objective and you get your percentage of the score as long as your team holds it. You cap Garri with 25 people, and you hold it for 10 ticks, regardless of you actually being online, you would get 1 point added to your score ever tick. since 25 ppt / 25 = 1 ppt and 1 × 10 = 10 you get 10 points total for holding 10 ticks. Which, while rewarding you for taking something, you cant get the points unless you actually hold it. The fact that your not online when its held and you still get points might not seem fair, but the idea is that you still wouldn’t be getting the points without your contribution.

You can’t exploit it by sitting in there if you didn’t help take it, your still getting nothing.

But the problem you named with sitting there waiting is still an issue. You can’t tell the difference between some one waiting for a zerg and some one sitting there AFK. You could introduce a system of diminishing returns for that, though.

You can start out getting 5 points for the first hour, 3 for the second, 1 for the third, and none for the last. While the numbers could probably be played with, something like that could work. You could also apply something like a 24 hour ICD of those points. It sucks if your sitting in keeps that long sitting and waiting for a zerg… but if you hit that cap, you might as well find some one to switch out with.

If you can poke a hole in it, I’ll see if I can fix it…. this is kinda fun =P
