I don’t know if this has been mentioned by anyone before (the forum search function is finicky for me), but it’s an issue that has bothered me many times in WvW and in sPvP.

In PvE (where I spend most of my time), names show up in three colors: blue for party members, green for allied NPCs, and red for enemies.

When I switch to WvW or sPvP, these colors still apply to names. However, they’re not consistent with the teams. If I’m on the red team in sPvP, for instance, I’m significantly more likely to be that kid in little league football who ran to the wrong end of the field and scored a touchdown for the other team. If I’m on the red team in WvW and my team starts to capture a point, the big circle turns red. Red! Is that bad? In PvE, that’s always bad! But no. That’s good now. I’m red. My party members may be blue and allies are green, but we’re really red. That’s why the circle is red. Right? No, wait, are we red this week? Aw, now there’s a thief or a mesmer or something here, what color should the circle be?!

And so on.

My point is that having the same three colors for these systems is very confusing at times, even for those of us who are not colorblind.

My suggestion: Why not some alternate color scheme? If you like the blue and green, why not replace red with yellow? Or purple? Orange, maybe. In fact, here’s a list for you. Pick some. Any of them will be better than red.

i think a better solution is to allow custom nameplate colors. I know tons of guilds who refuse to group with each other just because gold nameplates are so much easier to see in a fight. when your grouped, the dark blue doesn’t stand out from the light blue of pugs, leaving the minimap as the only way to find your team.

That might help somewhat, but it wouldn’t necessarily solve the problem of the capture rings. In PvE, they’re always red if contested by enemies, green if they’re being captured by you or your allies. In WvW and sPvP, they change according to your team color.

I hate being on the red team. It just throws me completely off-balance.

And of course, Borlis Pass is red this week.

I guess it’s time to work on temporarily reprogramming my brain such that “red = good.”

This doesn’t bode well for my PvE experience…

Seriously? This is a problem for you?
Perhaps you should stick to PvE.

Er….You’re not on MY server are you?

Yes, this is a problem for me.

Not a monumental one, but just as the subtleties of the game often amaze and amuse me (like snow falling from a tree branch, that still rocks), the subtle annoyances are like an itch I can’t scratch.

If they can change team colors (as several recent threads have lamented), then why don’t they change red to something else? The problem seems obvious to me, but maybe nobody else cares. Evidently, some think I must be an idiot to expect chromatic consistency.

Enemies are red. Allies are blue(ish) or green.

Except sometimes.
