Darxio – Thief Commander
Regarding consumables in WvW
Darxio – Thief Commander
some foods change class balances significantly, for example orrian truffle and meat stew on an evasive arcana d/d ele, is a lot more than a warrior with power food buff, or necro with condi dmg buff.
if there need to be strict class-class balances in wvw, like in structured pvp, then all foods need to be taken out, along with all the others that adds temporary stats bonuses. Strength booster, blessing of different sorts….
The offerings? Seriously? They’re +6 to stats. That’s like saying get rid of infusions because some people don’t have them in their ascended gear and don’t feel like getting them and thus are playing at a +5 stat disadvantage.
All classes are capable of using consumables to.
Theoretically, no one should be complaining about them because they ALL have access if they want to.

That is the absolutely wrong way to look at things. It really is. If something is unbalanced, the way to fix it is to not “give everyone access”, as the game is not designed around those unbalanced elements being utilized by everybody. The items either have to be balanced or removed – not given to everyone to be exploited and make the game even worse when it comes to balance.

They are not unbalancing the WvW, I am just saying that to have the same amount of buffs as everyone else, people have to have 7 buffs (food, utilities, 4 offerings and venom). That’s a lot and it is annoying to get them all. I would rather see those offerings gone so it will be simpler for everybody.
I have to say, the fact that anet is removing these items from WvW play is really quite frustrating. Anyone who took the time to research and go get them in the world (and spend serious gold on them) could use them equally. If there is an issue with CD (like Omnom Pie CD was added) or bug (Skale Venom doesn’t work properly on some weapons), then the item itself should be addressed. It’s a matter application; of strategy and tactics, not unbalanced one sidedness. If some jerk is spamming gears, then send a thief to gank him.
Just because all players aren’t aware of all the facets of a game doesn’t mean you should neuter the game to satisfy the lazy, uncurious and unskilled – the lowest common denominator of players who want to autoattack to win. Consumables add an unpredictable element that keeps things interesting. Zerging back and forth could use a little spice in my opinion. This sort of knee-jerk reaction to consumables will just make people more secretive about their tactics in the game, and not promote an open and honest dialogue about the state of WvW between devs and players.

All I am saying is that there is nothing stopping people from using Blessings (+6 stats) or Skale venom. Removing these items, you might as well remove sigils that cause conditions and food/utility consumables….
However, I do agree that certain items definitely need to be removed (like those kitten gears!)
Crystal Desert
We Came To Dance [WCTD]
They are removing skale venom and they nerfed food buff that proc of critical hits
Nine Divines (ND)
Sorrow’s Furnace
Camping a keep near you since 2001 !
Rip flaming effigy piece. Just a light source that helps getting past the campers in the JP while in stealth. But for some reason they were disabled. Whats next, fireworks?

This this, so this. But “we don’t want wvw to be fun or interesting” – someone literally at anet. D; Seriously, seems they want wvw to be as monotonic and shallow as possible. I’m getting fed up with this Zerg Wars 2, because thats all wvw is now, zerging!

I think that all cash shop items that give statistical advantage such as regeneration/speed buffs should also be banned. Leave Exp and magic find ones allowed though.
I don’t understand why skale venom wasn’t working in wvw…then I came to this thread. Why did it get banned? It’s a consumable that everyone has equally opportunity to and it’s a replacement for oil. Maybe some people like the idea of inflicting weakness over having their power buffed….what is so wrong with that? Everyone has access to it. I can understand getting rid of items that summon a creature to fight with you, but a simple 10% chance to cause weakness…..come on….
Wow this thread is over a month old gg on the res o.o talk about dusty
A lot of bundle items have been turned off while within WvW since launch. If you think you’ve found a bundle item that should be added to that list feel free to post it in this thread, send me a PM, or send in a bug and someone from the team will look into it.
Gears, Skale Venom and Spikeroot Fruit have been removed, but you wont see the changes until the next build.
Hey Matt,
Is there a list somewhere that states which bundle items arent usable in WvW? Because I think, not all tool tips have notes in it telling you that it isnt usable in WvW.

The problem was that it stacked WITH your wrench buff, not replaced it. So if you used it, you had a built-in advantage. What I find funny is that things like Hylek pots work still, but the moltovs got disabled…. its just non-sense… they targetted certain consumables and left others alone.
I don’t think it’s entirely about being OP or advantages. Guild wars 1’s pvp was based around using your class, and how you handled your skills. It’s about tactics. I know, you may say that finding and using gear at the right time could be tactics, but that’s not really it. I think WvW was meant to played a curtain way, and consumables that break the idea of wvw, shouldnt necessarily be a part of it. Stats are a part of how you build your character. Does everyone use the same food? Based on your class and build, you determine which food would be best. It’s just another piece of equipment really, like an accessory.
I personally find it distasteful when there is one universal thing that is used above all else when it’s known about. Uniqueness is rather important, as shown by all the customizable ways you can make yourself look…
I could be very wrong and just making an assumption about how they wish wvw should and meant to be played, but those are my thoughts.
Way to necro this oh so dead thread.
I would love to see some consumables added into the WvW maps though. They are just so fun to use and you never really see anyone play with them because PvE is so easy most of the time.
