Skirmish scoring will go into effect in about 15 minutes (near 18:00Z), with the EU reset.
NA players: while you’ll immediately see the new skirmish data in the WvW dialog, this week’s match will still have its end result scored in the old War Score-only style, ignoring Victory Points from skirmishes.
Sites that use our API for WvW will still display the “vanilla” War Score that accumulates over the week.
Have/will the World Bonuses get tweaked around this new scoring type. Right now on NA with the new Skirmish stuff displaying I noticed that the World Bonuses seem to be going off of the Skirmish score which makes most of the world bonuses impossible to obtain and the few ones that get obtained.

Chris made this post in response to that. In short, you still have the bonuses; they are just not visible through the WvW screen. Mouseover the WvW button in the top left to see your bonuses.
The display for PotM bonuses in the WvW dialog’s second tab is incorrectly showing what bonus would be present with the War Score from only the current Skirmish.
The tooltip on the WvW button in the quicklaunch bar along the upper-left of your screen still shows the real PotM bonus you’re currently receiving behind the scenes.

Just had a quick look into out match and saw that the skirmish score is 5-4-3. How can that be? Shouldn’t_it 3-2-1? (i.e. the sum should be always a many of 6, but not 15)

5+4+3 = 12 = 2*(1+2+3), so it’s reasonable to assume that 2 skirmishes have completed.
So each were awarded 3 VP from an initial setup skirmish that went off, in which they were all tied. Then Abaddon’s Mouth won the first “real” skirmish, and Aurora Glade took second.

“wvw is unavaiable while matches are being updated” complaints are piling up a lot right now on our server. Would be great if you could look into this sooner than later. Most of these people seem to have logged in after the first 2 hours of the new system.

Only since the patch like 15 minutes ago, and it is working fine for people who haven’t patched yet.

me too i have the same problem on desolation i try to join map and it say the same thing in all the maps i try to join “wvw is unavaiable while matches are being updated” and alot of people too

I and many of my guildies are having the same issue : wvw unavliable while matches are being updated with 53 minutes showing in matchup. SBI Server. My build shows : 66.577
I am not the one getting the problems, apart from that, I am playing on ElonaReach [EU]. Some people say that they got a small update when they logged in (those that logged in after the first 2 hours) and that that might be responsible for the problems.

yeah my friend did the same thing got that update and he cant join all the maps now before that he join normal build: 66 577
The 6-5-4 score is because everyone started with 3 Victory Points. We will be fixing it so that everyone starts with 0 Victory Points but this change won’t be in for a few weeks.
where do i go to leave feedback on how bad this skirmish system is? there is literally ten people in my server walking around being productive while the others have around 30 or so players each. How will this skirmish system prevent this from getting out of hand?
The skirmish description is confusing and I don’t even know if its true or not.
Someone clarify it for me please. From what was posted:
-Skirmish starts: everything u own is the same, the only thing that changes is ur warscore resets for however long the skirmish lasts (1-2hours). At the end of the skirmish ur warscore is converted into a placement: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and from there you get x many points. At the end of all skirmishes the number of points u win is gonna be tallied. This number is called victory points. Whatever you own at the end of the skirmish is what you will own when the normal warscore starts up again.
Apparently the winners of each week, as normally through normal warscore, get victory points of some unknown number as well.
So with skirmishes this normal victory point score will be augmented with the victory score generated from skirmishes. But we don’t know the rating scale or important winning the week is vs how important winning skirmishes is.
Do I have that all correct? Assuming all that is true…its basicallly just resetting the warscore at any given time during the week for a set amount of time. Meaning that the ability to get points is stilll going to be largely due to “what” you own prior to the start of the skirmish starting. So really if you organize urselves really well in a loser server….and you outfight and out ppt the other “server populations during the skirmish time” ur stilll gonna be at a huge disadvantage since ur server had nothing at the start of the skirmish.
Like what if u own nothing on any map and the enemies have everything else and its all fortified. You start the skirmish with a superior fighting and ppt force…..but by the time you retake ur corner and fight through the sloggy zerg fights you own most of the map but ur ppt is still third place at the end of the skirmish. Really the 1st 2nd and 3rd place servers shouldn’t change at all in skirmishes….3rd place will stay 3rd place in a skirmish too.

This is way too overcomplicated.
You get warscore as normal.
At the end of the skirmish, your warscore gets turned into VP depending on who has most warscore.
At the end of the week, most VP wins.
I really feel sad for us wvw players for the simple fact that wvw has been and will be continued to be phased out. I know anet is trying to fix the wvw population by merging servers (which is not a fix) and now with this skirmish nonsense.
Maybe if we (meaning wvw players) get incentive bonus or worth wild rewards then we can get a community to join wvw or bring back some of the players we lost due to GW2 being a pve game.
I know anet doesnt want the scores to be run away due to different times players play, but all in all it is not fixing the problem WvW has. We are losing players because the game is not motivated for wvw players.
Please this scoring will not fix the problem.. it is only complicating things more and losing more wvw players; you tried desert bls, you tried merging servers, what happened to the tournaments (because of the HOT, pve).

It’s making it rather difficult to land hits when you think you’re about to land a skill and then the enemy jumps to an entirely different location. The entire fight. Even when they’re in the downed state, they rubberband.

What does that have to do with the skirmish mode? That happens every hour of every day already. The skirmish mode is going to help make sure the 30 on the other sides are not running up scores for 2 hours at a time. They may cap everything and tick up 10k score to your 1k but they will only be getting 3 victory points out of it and not a 9k lead.

Everything is the same, you cap stuff, you keep it, you upgrade it, yadda yadda yadda.
Warscore = Points tallied the usual ways by kills, capping places, 5min ppt etc.
Victory Points = At the end of 2 hours they check the warscore from all 3 sides, then they award victory points 3, 2, 1 for 1st, 2nd, 3rd.
Warscore is reset for the next period, but everything is still the same.
Everything continues this way until end of the match and the server with the most Victory points wins.
The system is only meant to prevent overrun scores in dead times for servers. It wasn’t meant to be the end all be all fix for populations or coverage or scoring.

Why not make it so score builds up more slowly during dead pop and faster during high pop?
That’s the controversial change they mentioned, where higher activity time periods will gain more points. It won’t be implemented unless they feel there’s a need to.

Wouldn’t it be harder for an off hour coverage server to win a kdr match if the small handful of people on the other servers kill a few stragglers and don’t die?

Sure, but PPT still dominate the major portion of the score. If the largest force holds the majority of the map, killing their players won’t really help unless you are farming them big time.
