Removal Of WvW Map Completion In Patch

+20% chance of a critical crafting success
+10% Defense against monsters
+10% Endurance regeneration
+20% Chance of additional mining/harvesting/logging node uses
+10% Healing Effectiveness
+10% Maximum health
+10% Bonus coin per kill
+10% Experience per killI so no reason at this point that the WvW players should be supporting the PvE’ers if the PvE players can’t be bothered to support the WvW’ers who earn these bonuses for them with the occasional foray into WvW.
Granted, some of you many not think these bonuses are worthwhile and I’ve provided the maximum examples (some servers earn lower rewards based on their score), but that’s how I feel.
Also, I completely agree that it’s time to give the WvW’ers some really nice incentives (skins, buffs, something!). Perhaps some quantity of the old WvW Tournament Tickets could be given out weekly for wvw participation and they could be used on the existing rewards which require those tickets and newer neat things could be added. (LET US BUY DUNGEON TOKENS WITH BADGES OR TOURNIE TICKETS PLEASE!)

I think this ultimately was a good call on ANet’s part (and 90% of my time in this game is spent in WvW). For every person on the fence about WvW that this originally encouraged to try it, it probably aggravated 10 more who ultimately had no interest in it.
There are way more sustainable and fun ways (see the sPvP reward system) to encourage primarily PvE players to play WvW. I hope ANet is working on those.

I’d also like to see separation of builds/normalization of stats like what is done for PvP, only not as limited as PvP builds/stats. I want all traits unlocked, all gear unlocked, keep food/wrench, and only usable for WvW. I don’t want to have to PvE for my WvW gear. And I want it free so I can change runesets without losing a kittenload of gold cuz we know that wvw gear can’t be salvaged.

Pretty much this. Map completion never made me want to try it, and after how rude and belittling people were the first time I went in to WvW I never set foot in it again for almost a year. It took a good guild to get me to try it again, and now I love it. Other players have a lot more of an impact on who stays and who goes than people seem to admit or realize.

You are mistaken. Not that they need to ‘suffer’ its that Anet spent programming time, testing etc. to make an needed change that could have been better spent elsewhere.

Nah, it’s just another example of how WvW is a tertiary concern to Anet.
But it does decrease the new blood coming in to WvW. Which is a bad thing.
It’s a joke, remember when they added a rank requirement of 14 to purchase the gift of battle but then removed it shortly after because it was too difficult to achieve? 14 wvw ranks are too difficult to achieve for pve folks and now they removed wvw maps from world completion. As a player who mostly does wvw and is r2100+, I found it 100 times more frustrating and boring doing the pve zones than I did doing the wvw ones. If they are staying this course, they should at least give us the option of purchasing the gift of exploration with 500 badges of honor like the gift of battle. Add being a rank of lvl 14 to it if you need to anet, since that is so difficult for pve players to get.

With the changes going in next patch that wvw maps will no longer be required to complete World Completion, I suggest jremoving world completion as a whole to making a legendary. If its unfair to force players into pvp to build a legendary, then the same can be said of forcing people into pve. I am person who mostly does wvw and have completed World Completion on 2 different characters, and I can say that the wvw maps were completed much easier and faster compared to any pve maps. Being required to go through each pve zone and completing it to 100% is very boring, and I am sure most players would agree, which is why I am asking you to just remove world completion as a whole as a requirement to build legendaries.

That is a weird argument. What is about players that are accidentally on a stacked server matched against low pop servers? They get map completion just by logging in one day and walking around the map to get all POIs and Vistas…

I agree that it is weird to require PvE map completion for a WvW player to gain access to legendaries. However the challenges are different. While the PvE “challenge” to get map completion are simply time gated, the PvP challenge to get map completion is depended on so many other factors. In some situations it makes it impossible for the average player to ever get WvW map completion unless they are ready to transfer server, for a considerable extra cost.
Fairness is the last thing this game knows (except partly for PvEers, who I guess are the majority of GW2 players). And as a WvW player one should be aware of that. One can only hope, that in the future they will allow WvW players their own rewards and make the game mode more interesting by adding actual good (and exclusive) WvW rewards.

This is nothing new really and we all saw it coming.
Retail the WvW jump puzzles always had people in them. Why? Be cause it was required. It was also made very difficult, at times, by people camping in there with siege and other things. It was actually a pretty fun place.
Enter today and they are a ghost town. Obsidian Sanctum withstanding, which was dead prior to the GvG changes, was also dead after all that drama. So exit the siege in the jump puzzles. Exit the requirement for the jump puzzles on any of the maps. Exit the overall points of interest on the maps. What do you end up with?
The current state of WvW which while still fun is utterly broke due to the tier ratings and he or she server with the most players 24 x7 coming out on number one. Whereas the bottom up clearly shows the issues the servers in the middle are somewhat happy unless there drama causing guilds/players to move to the next.
Until alliances are built in, claiming things mean something by allowing guards to message /g chat, defending yields more points, shorter scoring, player portal with interesting weekly and monthly stats, et al; we’re stuck in the rut. Here is where GW2 needs another game to challenge it so Arena Net wakes up a bit and spends some R & D dollars on this.
Sad how a game from 2001, DaOC, had a player portal that was updated weekly and monthly by class, guild, alliance, etc. All players ranked on a ladder. And I won’t even go into Darkness Falls….not that DaOC didn’t have 3 AM relic raids but similar issues should have been thought out circa 2015…

I think the removal is fine. Anet needs to find other ways of getting people into WvWvW and perhaps try to actually fix it. PvE map completion can hang totally on personal effort, WvWvW…not so much, it probably doesn’t help that 3 of the 4 maps are identical. And in its current state, it’s a good idea that Anet is no longer pushing people into WvWvW as its just not in good shape on most servers. The people crying about ledgendaries should really get over themselves. I mean honestly with all that is required for making one of these weapons, you’re going to whine about map completion? Give it a rest. If anything, there should have been prestige skins available through WvWvW only.

It is true. You can get all the BoH you need through AP points. So you’re wrong.
I think the removal of Wuv maps from World completion has less to do with pure PvEer’s not wanting to go to Wuv to get their legendaries and more that we are going to be getting a new borderlands map, that will be in a rotation with the other borderlands map (meaning that the old BL that it replaces will not be a BL someone could do map completion on that week), which will add yet another layer of randomness to a part of map completion that is very random and luck-dependent.
I mean, I’m on FA, and we’re almost always winning by a large margin at the week’s end, but I still almost always have to wait until we come up as a certain color if I want to finish that BL and/or that third of EB for Wuv map completion on one of my characters. I’d hate to think of how frustrating it would be if after weeks of waiting for FA to be the right color, it turns out our home BL isn’t the Borderlands that I needed.
Though, even if it’s no longer required for the Gift of Exploration, I’d still like to be able to get the map completion bonus for that map. I wonder if that is still going to be a thing.
I do WvW when I want to WvW, when I do map completion in WvW I am not helping my server at all and it isn’t challenging or difficult. I go into wvw get the stuff my server should own and leave, then next week if we rotate I do it again. The difference between between WvW and PvE map completion is that you can go solo in PvE and always complete part of it. In WvW it can be impossible to get certain areas despite your best efforts and there are live players there that will go out of their way to ruin your day again and again. In the end WvW map completion was as bad as a time gated material all you had to do was log in and get the right stuff, except WvW was time gated by weeks depending on the server rotation, and for certain extremely poor servers longer. PvE map completion on the other hand can be farmed as long as you are willing and if PvE players could make a WvW players map completion more difficult in PvE you can be kitten sure there would be WvWers complaining. This is a positive change.
So far it’s not official NA and EU server will have WvW removed from map completion, but if it is how about a compromise.
As someone already stated the best solution is 1 gift for PvE completion and 1 for WvW (who knows for sPvP).
Not only that but each is a different gift, say Gift of Tyria and Gift of WvW.
The Tyria one can be used to make PvE Legendary weapons
The WvW can be used to make WvW Legendary weapons.
This way both parties get what they want, PvE can get their PvE map completion without doing WvW; WvW can get their WvW map completion without doing PvE; both get rewards for being able to gain mats to craft specific legendaries.
I think my main problem on this is the people who complained about WvW being map completion will still take part in the tournament to milk the AP

Of course they will, they’ll take the rewards and ap then leave. They’ll take the buffs from WvW and not put anything in for it.

Making a legendary is a purely PvE objective, which is exactly why everything about it should be kept out of WvW.
- On “enticing” people into WvW: I’m of two minds. Sure, some people came for map completion and stuck around. Also, some came and ate up space on high pop server maps that could have been taken by someone who wanted to be there. There’s also the new daily system for enticing PvE only people into WvW, especially those who don’t dungeon on those double fractal days.
- On rewards: it seems to me that an hour spent in EotM or in SW is more rewarding than three hours spent in WvW. I haven’t played WvW a ton, but when I do I invariably end up with less loot than I would in less time elsewhere. I believe this inequity ought to be addressed.
- On removing WvW map completion rewards: Why is this being done? ANet could not remove the WvW map objectives from overall completion without also removing the rewards? If so, then it’s yet another example of really bad system infrastructure. If not, then why remove a tiny reward from a mode that is arguably the least rewarding in the game?
Now you make me wish we had awesome looking WvW Legendary’s which you could get by using the “wvw” map completion item. lol…
I actually like your idea very much due to it following the lines of making it so items are attainable via whichever game mode you as a player enjoy playing without forcing you to go into a mode you hate. (Sounds a bit like what ANet stated would be available pre-launch of gw2.)

This is great news honestly. If you’re an active WvW player, you should know this alleviates the amount of map queues filled by PvE map completion players. We all know how these affect servers, especially T1 servers where guilds are sometimes unable to get into home BL that needs help because it’s filled by PvE players doing map completion.
We’ve seen a BL with 50+ queue but only 25 people on the commander pin. It gets ridiculous sometimes. So this is indeed a good change. And while I wish they would remove PvE requirement for those of us that are only interested in WvW, I’d rather they do just this for now than not doing this at all. Removing PvE players from WvW zones will immediately help with the situations many servers are facing with queues. In other words, doing something is better than nothing. And this will help WvW be more of a place for WvW players & guilds.
It wont relieve the queue’s because the wvw bonuses to crafting and such. PVE players will still come INTO wvw, and afk in the crafting areas, or eat space up by using the crafting areas. Now if those were moved to EOTM and out from safety of being in spawn, it might help alleviate the queue’s without players on pin.
Though in reality this change makes me very upset. I think if WvW exclusive players HAVE TO pve to get map completion PVE players should HAVE TO wvw for it too.
And true Anet didn’t expect wvw to have the “hard core” following it does, however at launch and for months afterwards the company and players could clearly see WvW had many players who only took part in it, while hating pve/dungeons and so on.

Idk why they didn’t just give 1 Gift of Map Completion for WvW, and 1 for PvE and stopped the whining years ago.
PvEr’s wouldn’t have to go in a PvP game mode, and WvW players wouldn’t have to go into PvE. There’s always someone who says that people need to WvW though, or people need to PvE, but let’s be honest, some people just don’t like to PvP, and WvW players just can’t make money like people in PvE can, so it’s not really like gifting one side an easier advantage to making a legendary. Although I think the gold star by your name should be for having both, but that’s just a vanity thing.
Personally I’m glad they had it like this though, because I would have never tried WvW, or Tpvp, if I didn’t have to enter WvW for map completion. It slowly eased me into PvP by having a mass environment with little stress until I got a little more confident and better.

Unfortunately havn’t been playing in that time , but let’s be fair 500 badges to easy to get (if to compare with full map opening) i would suggest for example 2500 or 5000 will be fair enough , cause otherwise , PVE ppl will have a chance to craft legendary and WvW players not !? is it fair !? Also will be nice to hear anything from PVP players.

According to the wiki the rank requirement for the gift of battle is still there.
Not that it means much as one can just buy ranks with laurels.

The real reason they’re getting rid of wvw completion is probably the fact that there are new wvw maps coming, and world completion in wvw will become a lot harder to do.
For anyone suggesting that they “remove PvE” from world completion: When anet decides to create a second map for the whole world, and switches them inbetween weekly, you’ll get your request
I don’t like this idea since I liked the ORIGINAL idea behind the legendaries: to have one, you have to play the three different game modes. This is a MMO, so of course legendaries are now 100% PvE (Gift of Battle can be farmed in no time in EotM). I really, REALLY hope the precursor collection will require you to do massive amounts of pvp and WvW, but I doubt it. But I’m all in favor of WvW exclusive rewards, naturally.
We all know the reason why they did it and it had nothing to do with ‘aligning’ anything.
I’d be more satisfied if they told the truth and just came out and said they were making the change to make it easier for the general population to get it done.

You shouldn’t be forced to switch servers to finish content. If you had no problems getting any portion of the wvw map consider yourself lucky.

I completely agree with this. WvW players basicly boosting the PvE players loot but they do not want to participate to get the buffs further up.
